Chapter 10 - The First Blow

Leon's phone wouldn't stop ringing.

Veronica stood beside him, trying to keep up with everything that was happening, but the speed of the information was overwhelming. Every call, every message, every system alert followed the same pattern—contracts being canceled, negotiations collapsing, clients growing hesitant.

"This is just the beginning," Leon said, his voice calm but edged with tension. "Daniel started small… but someone is coordinating this."

"How do you know?" Veronica asked, trying not to let her fear show.

Leon exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair.

"Because this doesn't feel like him. He knows how to manipulate situations—but not like this. This is… professional. Structured."

Veronica swallowed.

"So… this isn't just personal revenge?"

"Unfortunately, no." Leon shook his head. "He might think it is. But there's someone bigger behind all of this."

Silence settled between them.

Her phone vibrated.

A message from her mother:

"Veronica, I'm worried. Call me as soon as you can."

She typed quickly:

"Mom, I'm okay… just busy."

But the truth was—

No one was okay.

Across the city, Daniel sat in his office, watching the impact of his actions unfold on the screen.

Every canceled contract.

Every hesitant client.

Every shift in Leon's market position.

It all felt like a carefully choreographed dance.

"It's working," he murmured. "She'll realize nothing is safe without me."

What Daniel didn't realize…

Was that someone else was already two steps ahead.

Back at the mansion, Leon stood up and walked toward Veronica.

"We need to move fast. Whoever's targeting us won't wait for us to stand still."

She looked at him, her heart racing.

"What can we do?"

He took a breath.

"First, we secure the contracts we still have. Then we figure out who's really behind this."

"And Daniel?" she asked, her voice quieter than she expected.

Leon stepped closer, placing his hand lightly over hers.

"He's the immediate problem."

A pause.

"But he's not the only one."

Veronica closed her eyes for a second.

The weight of everything pressed down on her.

Every decision now felt like it could define not just the future of the company—

But her own safety.

And Leon's.

"So… we do this together?" she asked.

"Always," he replied firmly.

At that exact moment, a series of electronic alerts echoed through the office.

Leon turned toward the computer, his expression tightening.

"Another breach attempt."

His voice was sharper now.

"Someone just tried to access our financial system."

Veronica stepped closer, staring at the flashing data on the screen.

"This… this isn't just sabotage."

She looked at him.

"This is war."

Leon nodded.

"Exactly. And the worst part?"

He paused.

"We still don't know how far they're willing to go."

Her phone rang again.

This time—

Daniel.

"Veronica," he said, his voice firm, almost desperate. "We need to talk."

She hesitated, remembering the last time he had shown up near the mansion.

"Not now."

"Please. Just a few minutes," he insisted. "It's important."

She took a slow breath.

"…Fine. Five minutes."

When she ended the call, the tension in the room felt even heavier.

She knew Daniel's actions—no matter how emotional—had real consequences.

And now…

The line between personal revenge and strategic danger was disappearing fast.

Leon looked at her, reading her hesitation instantly.

"Stay calm. This won't break us."

Veronica nodded, trying to hold onto his certainty.

"I trust you."

"Then trust our plan," he replied. "And remember—we're on the same side."

Across the city, Daniel watched as she answered his call.

A faint smile formed on his lips.

"She still doesn't understand what's coming."

Outside, the night grew colder.

But the feeling in the air was heavier than the darkness itself.

Because Veronica was beginning to understand something dangerous—

This war wasn't just about companies.

Or contracts.

It was personal.

And it was only just beginning.
