Chapter 5 - Chapter 3: Aftermath of Betrayal

The night had ended—but its echoes refused to fade.

✦ Maya's Breakdown

Maya woke up in a haze of pain and confusion. The room was unfamiliar. Kabir Malhotra lay asleep beside her—the man who had forced her into marriage. Her mind screamed in protest, but her body was too sore to respond.

She didn't know what her sister Kavya had done to Sahil, Kabir's younger brother… but she was paying the price.

Dragging herself into the washroom, Maya caught her reflection. The red sindoor in her hair. A mangalsutra around her neck.

Symbols of a bond she never accepted.

With shaking hands, she rubbed the sindoor away, her eyes filling with tears. Then, with one angry motion, she tore the mangalsutra and threw it in front of the mirror wardrobe.

> "I am not your wife," she whispered to herself. "Not like this."

Maya fled the Malhotra farmhouse. Neighbors stared. Whispers followed. She didn't care.

She rushed to the hospital, where her father's assistant had been calling non-stop.

There, Maya found her mother Archana, and confessed everything—every painful detail of what happened that night.

Her mother's heart broke in silence.

But the blow came harder when the doctor stepped in.

> "Ajit Singh is no more."

The words shattered both mother and daughter.

✦ A Silent Exit

Grief hung heavy in the Singh household. Maya, unable to face the trauma or shame, made a bold decision.

She sold family jewels, gathered the little money they had left, and with her mother—disappeared abroad.

No one knew where they went.

✦ Naina's Awakening

Elsewhere, Naina woke up alone in a hotel room. Dizzy. Disoriented.

Her instincts as a medical intern told her the truth—she had been drugged.

Heartbroken and betrayed, she packed her things quietly and returned to her temporary flat. With no answers, no safety, and no strength left, she booked a train to Bangalore, where her adoptive grandmother lived.

After a few days of recovery, Naina made a choice she once feared.

She accepted an offer abroad—a job she'd previously declined—and left the country, hoping to rebuild her future far away from her pain.

✦ Brothers in Conflict

Kabir awoke in the afternoon to find the bed empty. Maya was gone.

Panic set in.

When he stormed into the washroom and found the mangalsutra discarded, his heart dropped.

Anger surged through him—not at her, but at himself.

> "She's my wife. And I'll bring her back."

He ordered his men to search for Maya immediately, then left for the hospital to visit Sahil in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Sahil was slowly recovering.

Manik, haunted by the mysterious girl from the night before, called his team.

> "Find her. I need to know who she was."

Unknowingly, he was asking them to find Naina—whose identity remained hidden even to him.

Just as he ended the call, Kavya (Maya's sister) arrived at the hospital.

Manik was furious, refusing to let her near Sahil, but their youngest brother Arjun stepped in to calm things down.

Kavya entered Sahil's room—and dropped a devastating truth.

> "I'm pregnant. It's yours."

Shock froze the room.

When Kabir arrived and heard the news, even he was stunned. The weight of the situation pressed down on the Malhotra brothers.

Still, after much discussion, they informed their grandparents. To everyone's surprise, the elders gave their blessing.

Within days, Sahil and Kavya were married—a bittersweet moment for a family still reeling from heartbreak and chaos.
