Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Oil Factory

TRAILS OF THE HEART

News spread quickly throughout Walsvile about how Ethan had defeated Mathews and his friends. By the next morning, nearly everyone in town was talking about it.

Many women began suggesting that Ethan would make a fine husband for their daughters. Some fathers were even ready to offer their wealth and property just for the chance that their daughters might be considered by him.

That Sunday morning, Rose's father, Mr. Lona, happened to see Ethan walking through town and politely asked if they could talk.

The day was bright and peaceful, with a gentle breeze moving through the streets.

Ethan and Mr. Lona sat together at Olly Doo's, a small but comfortable coffee shop known for its warm drinks and quiet atmosphere.

After some small talk, Mr. Lona cleared his throat and leaned forward.

"I'll be honest with you, young man," he said. "My daughter Rose is a fine girl. If you were to consider an engagement with her, I could arrange a position for you at the oil factory. A very good position."

Ethan smiled politely.

"Your offer is very generous," he replied calmly. "But I have never truly thought about marriage… let alone an engagement."

Mr. Lona looked slightly disappointed.

Ethan quickly added, "Perhaps you could give me some time. At least enough time for me to get to know Rose better."

Mr. Lona nodded slowly, accepting the answer.

Later that evening, Luna, Rose, and Tiffany met at their usual place near River Bay.

Rose sat quietly painting the scenery around them. Luna rested against a tree while reading a book, and Tiffany hummed a soft melody as she practiced a new song.

The birds chirped gently above them, and the wind moved calmly through the trees.

It was peaceful.

They loved moments like these.

After a while, a familiar voice spoke behind them.

"Care for me to join you, ma ladies?"

They turned to see Ethan standing there, bowing his head slightly like a prince offering a simple greeting.

Tiffany smiled immediately.

"But of course," she replied.

Luna and Rose simply nodded before returning to their activities.

Ethan sat beside them and looked out over the calm water.

"It's beautiful here," he said softly. "I can see why you ladies like this place."

The girls agreed.

Soon, they began talking together, laughing and sharing stories as the sun slowly lowered across the bay.

Everyone seemed to enjoy Ethan's company.

And Ethan seemed to enjoy theirs as well.
