Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Node Breakthrough: Seeking Sanctuary

The horizon was a shattered mess of garbled code. Su Che stood atop the ruins, his rimless smart glasses refracting a cold, blue light that forcibly parsed the scene before him into a rolling stream of data. The sky was no longer the gray wasteland of old; it was a line of error logs in incessant, flashing red: `ERROR: Physics_Engine_Corrupt 0x8F2A`, `WARNING: Gravity_Drift +14.5%`.

The air reeked of oil and a rotting, sweet, fishy stench. This was the physical residue spilling over after high-dimensional code collapse, like some unspeakable toxic gas seeping down the respiratory tract into the lungs. Su Che took a deep breath, a cold, stabbing pain resonating in his chest. He raised his right hand, his fingertips trembling slightly in the void as he pulled up a translucent, azure-blue operation interface.

"Logic is self-consistent," Su Che muttered, his voice cold and hard as iron. There was no fear in his eyes, only an extreme sensitivity to data anomalies. To him, the twisted steel bars and crumbling concrete were not matter, but tampered memory addresses.

"Mr. Su, the degree of physical law disorder in the area ahead has reached the threshold of 89.4%," the voice of Ghost Protocol echoed deep within his consciousness, mechanical and icy. "Immediate evacuation is advised. This area belongs to a high-risk 'bad block' and may trigger a low-level formatting at any moment."

Su Che did not turn around. He stared at the distant area that was flickering violently, where a half-suspended skyscraper stood, the space around it distorting like an old TV with poor signal, filled with snowflakes and color shifts. "Evacuate?" A faint, almost imperceptible curve touched his lips. "Ghost, haven't you realized yet? This is the best cover."

"Explain the logic," Ghost Protocol retrieved a stream of data. "System stability usually relies on orderly rules. Chaotic areas accelerate the execution of the 'Garbage Collection' process."

"Exactly because of the chaos," Su Che took a step forward. The ground beneath his feet suddenly lost its gravitational support, and he floated up three meters like a fallen leaf, only to crash down heavily again, this time falling downward. "When the physical laws themselves develop logical loopholes, the judgment of system-level permissions creates blind spots. The Adjudicators cannot precisely locate target processes within the garbled code."

Zero stood beside him. The girl's silver hair moved without a breeze, the tips already showing obvious digital noise, like an over-compressed image where edges constantly flickered, blurred, and occasionally vanished and reassembled in an instant. Her body was undergoing a violent "pixelation," the price paid for being an individualized embodiment of a logical error.

"Su Che... my rendering frame rate... has dropped," Zero's voice was light, carrying a data-like flatness, but Su Che heard the anomaly within it. She raised her hand, looking at her palm where blue pixel blocks were constantly peeling away to reveal pale skin beneath. "The edges of the vision... are going black."

Su Che turned his head sharply, his pupils contracting instantly. What he saw was not Zero's face, but a string of frantically jumping error codes: `ENTITY_ZERO_RENDER_ERROR`, `MEMORY_LEAK_CRITICAL`.

"Shut up, don't speak," Su Che rushed forward, grabbing Zero's wrist. His palm was cold, yet it transmitted a stable current. He quickly typed a set of commands into the void.

`sudo -u root apply_patch /entity/zero/stabilize`

`execute: force_render_layer_3`

A violent burning sensation exploded from Su Che's brow, as if molten iron had been poured into his brain. He groaned, the veins on his forehead bulging, sweat instantly soaking his deep blue technical jacket. But he did not let go; instead, he increased his output intensity.

Zero's body trembled violently. The air around her began to distort, countless tiny binary symbols drifting off her like fireflies, only to be quickly sucked back into her body. The peeling pixel blocks on her skin were refilled, the noise on her silver hair temporarily subsided, but that unstable flickering sensation remained.

"You... are overextending your spiritual power," Zero looked at Su Che's pale face. In those originally empty, data-like eyes, a emotion resembling confusion appeared for the first time. "Why? According to logic, preserving computing power is more important than maintaining my physical form."

"Because you are the anchor," Su Che let go, stumbling back a step and leaning against the cold metal debris. He panted heavily, his breathing rapid and labored. "If even you are gone, I lose the only variable in this crumbling world. The premise of logical self-consistency is... that the variable exists."

Zero fell silent. She looked at Su Che, the noise at her body's edges fluctuating slightly again, but this time it was no longer a loss of control; it was a slow, rhythmic pulse, as if responding to a heartbeat.

"Let's go," Su Che straightened up, readjusting his breathing rhythm, his eyes returning to their usual calm. "Go to that building. It is currently the only shelter that fits the definition of a 'logical blind spot'."

The two passed through a bizarre wasteland. The spatial structure here completely defied common sense. Su Che saw the road ahead folding and stretching beneath his feet like a linked list maliciously tampered with. Sometimes it took ten steps to reach a place five meters away; other times, one step spanned a hundred meters.

"Detected illegal path redirection," Ghost Protocol's voice rang out again. "A logical closed-loop trap exists in the area ahead. Suggest detouring."

"No time to detour," Su Che did not look back, walking straight toward that folded space. "Zero, keep up. Your pixelation is intensifying; we must find a stabilizer as soon as possible."

"Su Che... my body... I can't feel the weight anymore," Zero's voice became ethereal. Her legs began to turn transparent, like a sketch being erased. "Gravity parameters... have failed."

"Grab me!" Su Che turned sharply, grabbing Zero's arm. This time, he wasn't just holding a physical entity; he was trying to forcibly lock her existence coordinates with his spiritual power.

`lock_target: zero`

`fix_coordinate: (x, y, z)`

Su Che raised his head sharply. Deep in the horizon, he saw a blinding flash of white light. It was the embodiment of system-level permissions, like a high-dimensional scalpel cutting through this chaotic sky. Wherever the beam passed, all garbled code was instantly formatted into silent white blocks.

"It's 'Garbage Collection'," Su Che's voice was low and urgent. "They've found the logical loophole here."

"Then run," Zero's body was half-transparent. She looked at Su Che, her eyes no longer holding data-like indifference, but a resolute determination. "Su Che, if I disappear completely... don't look back."

"Shut up," Su Che barked, grabbing Zero's hand and pushing off the ground with force. He mobilized his spiritual power again, constructing a temporary teleportation channel in the void.

`teleport: target_node_09`

`execute: jump`

A dizzying sensation of the world spinning came over him. Su Che felt his consciousness torn into countless fragments and forcibly pieced back together. When his vision cleared, they were already standing on the top platform of the half-suspended skyscraper.

This was indeed a perfect "bad block." The sky presented a sickly purple-red hue, gravity constants fluctuating wildly. Occasionally, huge data blocks would fall like meteors, only to explode into countless garbled codes the moment they touched the ground. The system here was completely ineffective; even the Adjudicators' detection signals were shielded by this extreme physical chaos.

Su Che leaned against the railing, gasping for air. A sharp pain resonated deep within his consciousness, a warning of spiritual power exhaustion. He looked at his hands, his fingertips still trembling slightly, as if retaining the residual warmth of his previous operations.

"Is this... the shelter?" Zero looked around. Although her body had regained its physical form, that unstable noise remained, like a thin mist shrouding her. "Logically... it is indeed impossible to locate here."

"Not impossible to locate, but the system simply chooses not to process it," Su Che walked to the center of the platform, where a massive data interface ruin still flickered with faint blue light. "This is a 'cache overflow zone' of the Universe's Underlying Protocol. As long as no write operations are actively triggered, the system will ignore the anomalies here."

He raised his hand, pulling up the operation interface again. This time, his movements were slower; every command was carefully considered.

`scan: environment`

`analyze: structural_integrity`

`execute: patch_local_reality`

"What is it?" Zero suddenly became alert. The noise around her body fluctuated violently, as if about to explode completely.

Su Che stared at the data stream on the screen, his brow furrowed. Amidst the chaotic garbled code, he saw a line of extremely tiny, almost ignored code: `USER_ID: COMPILER_04`.

"It's an Adjudicator probe," Su Che's voice was cold as ice. "They haven't given up; they are just waiting for us to show a flaw."

"What do we do then?" Zero looked at Su Che, a hint of worry in her eyes. "Your spiritual power... is almost exhausted."

"There is still a way," Su Che turned around to face Zero. There was no panic in his eyes, only a calmness bordering on obsession. "Since this is a cache overflow zone, let's make it overflow completely."

He raised his hand and began typing a string of complex commands. These were not defensive measures, but offensive ones. He intended to use the physical chaos here to create a logical deadlock, trapping the Adjudicators' detection signals within.

`inject: logic_loop_99`

`target: external_probe`

`execute: overload`

[Mental Computing Power Consumption: 25% | Remaining Available: -4%]

"Su Che! No!" Zero cried out, rushing forward to stop him.

But it was too late. The moment the command executed, the entire platform shook violently. The purple-red light in the sky instantly became blinding. Countless huge data blocks fell from the void, crashing down like a torrential rain. The sound of electricity in the air became sharp and piercing, as if countless flies were screaming in his ears.

Su Che felt his consciousness torn apart completely. He saw streams of code exploding before his eyes, saw Zero's body beginning to disintegrate in the light, saw the entire world issuing red warnings to him.

But he did not stop. His fingers danced rapidly in the void, every movement precise, as if conducting a symphony of death.

"Logic is self-consistent," he muttered, a trickle of blood escaping the corner of his mouth. "As long as the logic... hasn't collapsed..."

Suddenly, a violent explosion rang out in the distance. It was the chain reaction caused by forcibly overloading the Adjudicators' detection signals. A blinding white light slashed across the sky, then quickly dissipated, as if nothing had happened.

The operation interface in Su Che's hand instantly went black. He stumbled, nearly falling to the ground. Zero rushed over to support him. Her body was already half-transparent, yet her eyes were clearer than ever before.

"You succeeded," Zero looked at Su Che, her voice trembling slightly. "They... have been blocked."

Su Che leaned against her, gasping heavily. His consciousness was a void deep within, only the black screen of the operation interface still flickering frantically: `SYSTEM_CRASH imminent`.

"It's not over yet," Su Che raised his head, looking at the distant sky that was gradually calming down. "This is only temporary. The lifespan of a 'bad block' is limited. We must establish our own rules in this place."

He looked at Zero, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. "Zero, how much longer can your body hold out?"

"I don't know," Zero looked at her hand that was gradually dissipating, her voice calm. "Maybe the next second, maybe for a long time. But as long as you are still here... I will not disappear."

Su Che fell silent for a moment. He reached out and gently grasped Zero's hand, which was fading away. This time, he did not input any commands; he simply held on.

"Then let's hold out together," Su Che whispered softly. "Until the day logic becomes self-consistent again."

Far in the distance, azure-blue data streams still churned in the sky like an endless storm. But on this small platform, the two figures stood close together, building a weak yet unbreakable fortress in a crumbling world.

Su Che narrowed his eyes, looking deep into the horizon. There, something seemed to be waking up.
