Chapter 56: The Heart, the Resonance, and the Skyfall
The data-drive Stain had bled for was a ticking bomb, and the clock was already at zero.
Inside the central command hub of the Sovereign's Spire, Rin's fingers flew across the hard-light holographic terminals. The digital architecture of the Astral Nexus was hyper-focused on Endeavor's subterranean reactor.
"The Hero Killer was right!" Rin shouted, her spatial energy flaring in sheer panic. "All For One isn't trying to hack our firewalls! He's using the microscopic spatial distortions created by Endeavor's thermal exhaust as physical anchor points for the High-End warp-drives! I can't close the vents, or the reactor will melt down and incinerate the city!"
Shota Aizawa slammed his fist on the table. "Can you intercept the warp?"
"I can scatter it, but I can't stop it!" Rin cried, manipulating the city's coordinates. "They won't drop directly into the Spire, but they're going to bypass the outer walls entirely. They are going to rain directly into the central civilian sectors in less than five minutes!"
Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki stood at the ready, their tactical vests loaded.
"Then we fight in the streets," Bakugo snarled, sparks popping aggressively on his palms. "Let them drop. I'll blow them back into the sky."
"We are severely outnumbered, Bakugo," Hawks countered, his golden-red Oculus Plumes vibrating with tension. "Stain's intel confirms All For One has modified his lieutenants, unleashed Tartarus, and synthesized hundreds of Nomus. The civilian militia and the surviving Pro Heroes are brave, but they are going to be slaughtered by a concentrated wave of S-Rank threats."
Rei Arata stood silently at the head of the table. His silver moth-mask reflected the flashing red warning lights of the impending breach. He closed his eyes, his Omni-Weave feeling the heartbeat of half a million terrified refugees cowering in their hard-light homes.
The shield is not enough, Rei thought, the cosmic fire in his chest analyzing the tactical deficit. Healing them after they are broken will not win a war. I need them to be unbreakable.
"GateL0ck," Nocturne commanded, his dual-toned voice cutting through the panic with absolute, chilling calm. "Evacuate the central plazas. Move the civilians to the subterranean levels. Vanguard. Student Cell. Take your positions in the streets. I must secure the final layer of the board."
Before anyone could ask questions, Nocturne vanished.
He didn't walk; he used the Omni-Weave to physically slip through the dimension's data streams, reappearing instantly in the lower residential sectors of Aegis Prime.
The streets were chaotic as civilians rushed toward the subterranean shelters. Standing at the entrance of a hard-light apartment building, ushering people inside with frantic, theatrical waves of his cane, was Danjuro Tobita—the Gentle Criminal. Beside him, typing furiously on a small datapad to manage the crowd flow, was a diminutive woman with twin loops of magenta hair.
Manami Aiba. La Brava.
When the Commission had fallen and the world had descended into ash, Gentle and La Brava had sought refuge in Aegis Prime, recognizing the Sovereign as the true champion of the forgotten.
"Mr. Tobita. Ms. Aiba," Nocturne's voice echoed softly behind them.
Gentle spun around, his eyes widening as he immediately bowed with a dramatic flourish. "Winged Sovereign! We are doing our utmost to secure the citizenry! My Elasticity shall serve as a bouncy barricade against any ruffians who dare drop into our pristine streets!"
Nocturne stepped forward. He wasn't looking at Gentle. He was looking at La Brava.
Manami clutched her datapad to her chest, her large eyes wide with awe and fear. She knew who the Sovereign was. She knew he possessed the power of a god.
"Your devotion to Gentle Criminal is profound, Manami," Nocturne said, his voice stripped of the terrifying Sovereign distortion, ringing with gentle empathy. "Your Quirk, Love, allows you to bestow an immense, exponential power enhancement to the one you care for most. But it is fleeting, and it is limited to a single target."
Manami swallowed hard. "I... I only have enough heart for Gentle! He is my world! I can't buff an entire army, Sovereign!"
"You do not have to," Nocturne replied softly, raising his gloved hand.
From his palm, a breathtaking, iridescent magenta butterfly materialized. It didn't hum with destructive kinetic force or dense armor; it vibrated with a warm, connecting, and profoundly empathetic frequency.
"I am the anchor of this dimension, Manami," Nocturne explained, the magenta light illuminating the dark street. "If I weave your Quirk into the Astral Nexus, I can take the conceptual essence of your enhancement and network it across the entire starlit sky. I can amplify your devotion and broadcast it to every single soul fighting to protect this city. But to do this, I must borrow your heart."
Gentle looked at La Brava, his eyes shining with absolute pride. "My dear Manami... you have always given me the strength to stand against the world. Imagine what you could do for a world that actually wants to be saved."
Manami looked at the glowing magenta butterfly. She thought of the terrified families running past her. She thought of the haven the Sovereign had built for outcasts like her and Gentle.
Tears welled in her eyes. She didn't hesitate. She reached out and touched the butterfly.
"I accept your desire," Manami whispered fiercely.
The magenta butterfly sank into her chest.
Instantly, a warm, frictionless shockwave of pure magenta energy erupted from La Brava. Her eyes glowed with a brilliant, cosmic pink light. The Sovereign had granted her Empathic Resonance, stabilizing her biological limits so her enhancement Quirk would never burn her out.
But the true miracle was happening to the Sovereign.
Rei Arata closed his eyes behind the silver mask. Through the Omni-Weave, he assimilated Manami's Love enhancement Quirk directly into his cosmic core.
The physical pain was staggering. He was forcing a biological, emotion-based power into a quantum, reality-warping digital grid. The synapses of his brain screamed as he networked the enhancement into the very atmosphere of Aegis Prime.
"ASTRAL NEXUS: VANGUARD OVERDRIVE!"
Nocturne threw his arms wide.
The entire dimension of Aegis Prime shuddered. The soft, iridescent starlight of the sky violently shifted, igniting into a blinding, pulsing canvas of gold and magenta energy. The silver glass beneath their feet hummed with a heavy, intoxicating vibration.
Across the city, the effects were instantaneous and absolute.
In Sector Four, Izuku Midoriya gasped as the One For All embers in his chest roared into an uncontrollable inferno. The Blackwhip tendrils retracted, replaced by a surging, infinite reservoir of stamina and kinetic power. His base Full Cowling effortlessly shattered its limits, jumping to a comfortable, painless 100% output without breaking a single bone.
On the perimeter, Kenji felt the silver armor of his Knight's Vow expand. The density didn't just harden his skin; it projected outward, turning him into a walking, fifty-foot-wide kinetic singularity.
Up in the air, Hawks let out a breathless, euphoric laugh. His golden-red Oculus Plumes multiplied by the thousands, transforming the sky into a literal ocean of telekinetically controlled, frictionless blades.
The Sovereign hadn't just given them a shield. He had turned the entire atmosphere of Aegis Prime into a colossal, dimension-wide power multiplier. Every hero, every Vanguard operative, and every civilian militiaman inside the city was suddenly boosted by five hundred percent.
"He buffed the whole damn sky," Bakugo breathed, looking at his hands as his explosive sweat ignited with the intensity of localized nuclear fusion. A feral, bloodthirsty grin split his face. "Let the bastards drop."
High above the central plaza, the starlit ceiling of the dimension violently tore open.
It sounded like the sky was screaming. A massive, jagged black rift ripped through the spatial barrier. The thermal wake of Endeavor's reactor had been breached.
SCREEEEEECH!
They didn't fall like paratroopers. They fell like a rain of nightmares.
Thousands of twisted, bio-engineered Nomus, heavily armed Tartarus escapees, and Paranormal Liberation Front zealots poured through the massive rift, plummeting directly toward the pristine, silver-glass plazas of Aegis Prime.
"For the Emperor!" a massive, multi-armed villain roared, diving toward a group of Pro Heroes.
But the invaders did not land on a terrified, cowering population. They landed in the Sovereign's domain.
BOOM!
Toshinori Yagi—Armored All Might—didn't wait for them to hit the ground. His mechanized suit, supercharged by the Vanguard Overdrive buff, vented blinding magenta plasma. He launched himself thousands of feet into the air, meeting the descending horde head-on.
"UNITED STATES OF SMASH!" Toshinori roared, his mechanical fist colliding with the lead High-End Nomu.
The kinetic shockwave was so massive it created a localized vacuum in the sky. The High-End didn't just shatter; the entire vanguard wave of hundreds of falling villains was violently blown back up toward the rift by the sheer, unadulterated air pressure of the mechanized strike.
"They're dropping in Sector Two!" Aizawa yelled over the comms, his capture scarf now moving with the speed and density of steel cables, effortlessly binding a dozen falling Tartarus inmates simultaneously.
"I have the sky!" Hawks shouted.
A literal crimson hurricane of Oculus Plumes swept through the falling ranks of the Liberation Army. The enhanced feathers didn't just slice weapons; they pinned hundreds of falling soldiers to the sides of the hard-light skyscrapers before they could even touch the ground.
In the central plaza, a massive, rhinoceros-mutated villain landed heavily, cracking the silver glass. He raised his massive fists, preparing to charge at Shoto Todoroki.
Shoto didn't even blink. He didn't use a massive glacier. He simply exhaled.
Empowered by the domain, Shoto's absolute zero required no wind-up. The rhinoceros villain froze solid mid-step, instantly encased in an unbreakable block of cosmic ice.
"They thought they were invading a sanctuary," Giulio Gandini whispered, his golden eye burning as his Crimson Arsenal broadsword ignited into a thirty-foot-long beam of crackling red plasma. He swung the massive energy blade effortlessly, cleanly bisecting a falling tank that had been warped in by the PLF. "They have invaded an execution block."
Rei Arata ascended from the lower levels, gliding up through the center of the chaotic, beautiful, and utterly dominated battlefield.
He hovered beneath the massive, jagged rift in the sky. The magenta and gold light of his Omni-Weave illuminated the descending horrors. The invaders were dropping into a meat grinder. The Swarm, empowered by the very air they breathed, was an unstoppable, god-tier phalanx.
But Nocturne's Emotion Sight was not focused on the falling pawns. He was looking at the tear in the sky itself.
Through the dark void of the rift, descending slowly and deliberately, completely untouched by the chaos around him, was a single figure.
Tomura Shigaraki.
He wore a tattered, dark red cape over his heavily scarred, stapled torso. The fissures on his body were still weeping black blood, but his white eyes burned with an absolute, world-ending malice.
He wasn't falling. He was floating, supported by the levitation Quirks of All For One.
Shigaraki looked down at the radiant, magenta-bathed utopia. He saw his army being systematically dismantled by the enhanced defenders. He didn't care. The pawns were just a distraction.
Shigaraki raised his right hand.
"You can buff your little knights all you want, Sovereign," Shigaraki's multi-layered, demonic voice echoed through the rift, bypassing the noise of the battle. "But you can't buff the sky."
Shigaraki didn't aim his hand at the heroes. He slammed his palm directly against the jagged edge of the spatial rift itself.
Decay.
The apocalyptic, gray rot erupted from Shigaraki's hand. It didn't decay physical matter; it began to rot the hard-light data streams and spatial boundaries of the Astral Nexus.
The starlit sky of Aegis Prime shrieked. A massive, gray, necrotic web began to spider-web across the dimension's ceiling, rapidly dissolving the boundaries that kept the vacuum of space and the toxic ash of the surface world at bay.
"He's decaying the dimensional barrier!" Rin screamed from the command hub, blood pouring from her eyes as the psychic feedback hit her. "Sovereign! If the roof collapses, the dimension will implode!"
Nocturne's kaleidoscopic eyes narrowed. He raised both of his hands, the cosmic fire in his chest roaring into a supernova.
He had woven a heaven. Now, he had to stop the Devil from tearing it down.
