Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Trust Is the First Thing That Dies

Silence.

Heavy.

Crushing.

Aarav and Mira stood facing each other.

Between them—

The darkness trembled.

Not attacking.

Waiting.

Watching.

"…You lied to me," Aarav said quietly.

Mira didn't look away.

"…Yes."

The honesty hit harder than any excuse.

"…From the beginning?"

"…Not everything."

Aarav let out a hollow laugh.

"…That's supposed to make it better?"

Mira stepped forward slightly.

"I never meant for it to go this far."

Aarav's eyes darkened.

"But it did."

Silence.

"And now you're telling me I'm turning into something worse than this place?"

The shadows around them pulsed.

"…I'm telling you the truth," Mira said.

"That's funny," Aarav replied coldly.

"Because I don't know what that is anymore."

The ground cracked beneath their feet.

The world inside the door reacted—

Not to fear.

To conflict.

To choice.

Mira raised her hand.

Her mark glowed.

"…If you lose yourself completely…"

The darkness pulled back slightly.

"…everything breaks."

Aarav raised his hand too.

His mark answered.

Stronger.

"…Then maybe it should."

The air exploded.

⚔️

They moved at the same time.

Mira struck first—

A pulse of energy shot toward Aarav.

He raised his hand—

The darkness obeyed.

It blocked.

The impact shattered the ground beneath them.

"…You're stronger than before," Mira said.

Aarav stepped forward.

"…You made me this way."

He swung his arm—

The shadows surged like a wave.

Mira jumped back—

Barely dodging.

The darkness behind her twisted violently—

As if it didn't want to touch her.

"…You see?" she said.

"…It listens to you."

Aarav didn't stop.

"…Then I'll make it listen."

He pushed harder—

The shadows roared.

Crashing toward her again.

Mira stood her ground this time.

Closed her eyes—

And released her power.

🌑

Light.

Not pure.

Not warm.

But different.

Older.

It clashed with the darkness—

Holding it back.

For a moment—

The two forces balanced.

Aarav froze.

"…That power…"

Mira opened her eyes.

"…It's the same source."

Silence.

"…We're connected to it differently."

Aarav's expression hardened.

"…Then why does it feel like you're fighting me?"

Mira stepped forward.

"…Because I'm trying to stop you."

🧠

The world shifted.

Memories exploded around them.

Fragments.

Aarav as a child.

Mira alone in darkness.

His father screaming.

The door opening.

All of it—

Colliding.

"…You used him!" Aarav shouted.

Mira flinched.

"I know."

"You destroyed everything!"

"I KNOW!"

The echo shook the entire space.

Silence.

Her voice dropped.

"…And I've been paying for it ever since."

Aarav hesitated.

Just for a second.

And the darkness reacted.

Surging.

Taking advantage.

It wrapped around him.

Feeding off his anger.

His pain.

His confusion.

"…See?" Mira said softly.

"…That's how it takes you."

Aarav struggled—

But the shadows tightened.

"…I don't need your help!"

Mira stepped closer.

"…You do."

She reached out—

But stopped just before touching him.

"…If I touch you now…"

Her voice trembled.

"…it might not let me go either."

Aarav's eyes flickered.

"…Then don't."

Silence.

"…Leave."

The word cut deep.

Mira didn't move.

"…No."

Aarav's voice hardened.

"I said LEAVE!"

The darkness exploded outward—

Throwing her back violently.

She hit the ground hard.

The world shook.

Cracking further.

Aarav stood at the center.

Consumed.

Almost gone.

"…This is what you wanted, right?" he said coldly.

"…Something strong enough to survive?"

Mira struggled to stand.

"…Not like this…"

Aarav's eyes turned completely black.

"…Too late."

The entity inside him stirred.

Stronger than ever.

"LET GO."

Mira looked up.

Not at Aarav.

At something beyond him.

"…No."

Her mark flared.

Brighter than ever before.

And for the first time—

The darkness recoiled.

Mira stood fully now.

Blood at the corner of her lips.

Eyes steady.

"…I won't let you take him too."

The words echoed.

Not just to Aarav.

To the thing inside him.

Silence.

Then—

Aarav's body froze.

Just for a moment.

"…Mira…"

His voice.

Faint.

Breaking through.

Her eyes filled with tears.

"I'm here."

"…I don't want this…"

The darkness surged again—

Trying to drown him out.

Mira stepped forward.

This time—

She didn't stop.

She grabbed his hand.

The moment they touched—

Everything exploded.

Light.

Darkness.

Memories.

Pain.

All at once.

Aarav screamed.

Mira screamed.

The world cracked open—

Splitting down the middle.

And deep inside—

Something ancient woke up.

Not the door.

Not the entity.

Something older.

Something neither of them understood.

🌑

When the light faded—

They stood there.

Still holding each other's hands.

But everything else—

Had changed.
