Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Warped Away

Konoha was in full swing, even at night, like the village itself was just as excited as its were people for the Rinne Festival. Paper lanterns were being hung from every rooftop, stalls were going up, and the air was thick with the warm, spicy scent of street food. The festival was practically a holiday, everyone talked on and on about it—even Naruto, who was running around Konoha like a man on a mission, though only a few people knew why.

Turns out, he'd discovered something priceless that afternoon—a faded, woolen scarf his late mother had knitted for him years ago. He'd stumbled upon it by pure chance while hanging out at Konohamaru's place. They'd been doing some spring cleaning (okay, Konohamaru was cleaning; Naruto was mostly watching), when suddenly, there it was, tucked away like a relic just waiting to be found.

Naruto's heart clenched at the thought of his late mother making a scarf for him before he was even born. It made him feel loved, sought after. The scarf healed him in a type of way he couldn't explain. To call him "happy" was like calling the Hokage monument "a nice little hill." The moment he touched it, all his memories of her felt as real as that old, worn fabric in his hands, and he had to blink fast to keep from crying in front of his friend. He clutched it like a lifeline, and Konohamaru—usually all cocky smiles and jokes—just stood there, watching Naruto with an awe he rarely showed.

When Naruto showed the scarf to Hinata, she couldn't help the pang of jealousy that flared up. For a second, she thought he'd gotten it from one of his female fans. Naruto had practically become a hometown hero; people wanted a piece of him wherever he went. But then, he explained, and suddenly her jealousy was replaced by this sweet, heart-aching happiness for him. She insisted he wear it to the festival, even though it meant he might not be able to wear the scarf she'd made him. Naruto being Naruto after finding out she'd made a scarf for him, wanted to take his mother's off but she vehemently refused to let him take it off.

Meanwhile, Sasuke had made a rare return to the village for the night, and Konoha 12—plus Sai—were all crammed around a table at the BBQ spot they'd frequented as genin. It was as noisy as ever, but there was a bittersweet vibe, like everyone knew their reunion was a brief one. Even though Sasuke had been away for years, no one hesitated to welcome him back like he'd never left. They all knew he'd have to leave before the festival, but for now, they laughed, argued over skewers, and teased each other like old times, pretending for one night that things were as simple as they used to be.

"And then, Sai held back this raging beast boar with his painted warriors while I prepped my new Rasengan!" Naruto recounted, his voice loud enough to draw stares from the other tables.

"Wait—new Rasengan?" Ino's eyes practically bugged out. "Don't you ever get tired?"

"What? There's always room for improvement, ya know!" Naruto said with a grin, as if everyone was supposed to understand his eternal drive.

Shikamaru shook his head, chuckling. "At this rate, the next generation'll never catch up."

"Who knows the trouble people will give them for not being able to "Live up to their predecessor's accomplishments." Ino groaned as she twirled her hair with her finger.

"It's troublesome just thinking about it."

The table fell silent for a moment, all of them kind of taking that in. It was true—they'd come a long way. Each of them was busy with their own paths now: Choji, Ino, and Shikamaru as new clan heads; Sasuke officially taking on the role as the Hokage's advisor; Naruto a frontrunner for Hokage himself; Sakura now head of the Medical Division; Sai leading the ANBU Black Ops; Tenten as the Weapons Specialist for the Ninja Corps; Lee and Kiba helping run the Police Corps; Shino teaching at the Academy; and Hinata advising her sister while leading the Hyuga Clan. Everyone had carved out their own place in the world.

And then, of course, there was the whole engagement situation. Naruto and Hinata had walked into BBQ hand in hand tonight, leaving everyone with their jaws hanging. After all the years they'd watched him stumble obliviously past Hinata's feelings, seeing them like that was surreal. It seemed all he'd needed was a mission on the moon to finally figure it out.

As the hours ticked by, though, even Naruto's energy began to dim. People started getting up, yawning and calling it a night. Kiba had drunk way too much, so Shino—looking both resigned and amused—had to help haul the "Sheriff" out the door. Eventually, it was just Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Hinata left, lingering outside under the glowing paper lanterns.

Hinata gave them all a warm smile, and bowed politely before glancing in the direction of her home. "Thanks, guys. It was really great seeing everyone again. I'll see you all tomorrow."

As she turned to leave, Naruto reached out instinctively, his hand grabbing hers gently.

"Hey, wait up! I'm walking you home," Naruto grinned, beaming eyes locking on Hinata's with his hand in hers. Her cheeks flared pink. She tried to keep her gaze forward, but the way Naruto's rough hand wrapped around hers sent a fluttery warmth through her that had her all but glowing under the streetlights.

Behind them, Sakura smiled softly, then she glanced up at Sasuke. "So... this is where you leave, right?" There was a wistfulness in her voice she couldn't quite hide, a hint of something she thought she'd buried ages ago.

Sasuke looked at her, his eyes softening. Without a word, he lifted a hand and tapped her forehead with his finger, a gesture so familiar it made her chest ache. She pouted but blushed anyway, and he chuckled—a quiet sound, almost lost in the night air.

"Thank you… for everything." His voice was low but sincere, the weight of his gratitude clear as day to her.

Sakura didn't reply, just smiled back, understanding the things he couldn't put into words. But then, he surprised her.

"You... want me to walk you home?" It came out casual, like a suggestion he was throwing out there, but she knew him well enough to see he was hoping she'd say yes.

"Yeah, I'd like that," she replied, a little too quickly, and they set off down the quiet streets in a silence that felt comfortable, like it was just the two of them in their own small world.

They reached her doorstep before she knew it, and as she turned to say goodbye, she found him already standing close—closer than she expected. His eyes held something she couldn't read, something that made her heart skip a beat. And before she could even think, he leaned in, his lips brushing against hers, soft and warm.

Sakura's eyes widened in shock as his arm slipped around her waist, pulling her to him in a way that felt like a promise, something she hadn't even dared to dream of. His lips were softer than she'd imagined, and surprisingly gentle. Had he ever kissed someone before? The question vanished as he angled his head, deepening the kiss, pressing her back gently against her door.

Everything about him—the warmth of his hand on her waist, the way he seemed to hold her like she was something he'd missed, something precious—melted every last defense she had. In that moment, Sakura didn't care if she ever found an answer to her questions; she just held on, letting herself sink into the feeling of finally, after all these years, being close to him in a way she never thought she'd be.

Out of nowhere, a surge of dark, sinister chakra ripped through Sasuke's body, making him jolt back from Sakura as though burned. He was panting, his face flushed, not just from the kiss but from the heavy, unmistakable aura that still lingered, curling around him like smoke. That chakra… It was unsettlingly familiar.

Sakura didn't look hurt or confused by his sudden reaction. If anything, her expression had shifted to one of grim understanding—she must have felt it too.

"Go," she urged, her voice steady, her gaze resolute. She wasn't asking; she was telling him to finish what he'd started.

Her words snapped him back, and he realized he still had her pressed against the door. He released her gently, giving her a look that said everything he couldn't—gratitude, regret, and a quiet promise. Then, in the next heartbeat, he was gone, vanishing in a streak of shadow down the empty streets.

Meanwhile, Naruto stood in the village square, shielding Hinata with one arm as her Byakugan blazed to life, her gaze fixed on the strange, otherworldly figure before them. Its once-white eyes shifted from the unmistakable Byakugan to a chilling yellow Rinnegan, a transformation that spoke of ancient powers beyond anything the villagers could understand. Around them, the few remaining villagers fled in sheer terror, their panicked cries echoing down the alleys, until only Naruto and Hinata were left to face the intruder.

The creature sneered, its voice hoarse and dripping with contempt. "You inferior creatures… how dare you exploit our powers for your own gain. It's revolting."

Naruto narrowed his eyes, his voice steady and defiant. "Funny, coming from someone who's here to take lives," he shot back. "Sounds like you're the real parasite here."

The Otsutsuki's lip curled in a mocking smirk. "The Nine-Tails' chakra is mine by right."

A fierce, growling voice erupted from within Naruto, echoing out with raw fury. "I belong to no one!" Kurama's chakra surged, a furious fire against the Otsutsuki's cold, ominous presence.

"Easy, Kurama," Naruto muttered, his tone more coaxing than commanding. He could feel Kurama's rage simmering, the beast's chakra crackling at the edges of his own.

But the Otsutsuki's smirk only deepened, clearly relishing the challenge.

In a flash, the Otsutsuki lunged, a gleaming chakra rod aimed straight for Naruto's abdomen. But before the rod could pierce its target, a massive yellow hand shot out from Naruto's body, stopping the strike cold even though Naruto's focus was elsewhere. Far from being intimidated, the Otsutsuki's smirk only grew as he twisted the rod, sinking it deeper into the yellow chakra limb. Naruto growled, his instincts taking over as he sent the Otsutsuki hurtling back with a single powerful swipe of another chakra arm.

"Hinata, get back—!" Naruto called out, but his words were cut short. In the next heartbeat, the Otsutsuki appeared in front of him, gripping Naruto by the head, and launched both of them into the sky before slamming him down and dragging him across the ground at blistering speed, away from the village outskirts. "Naruto!" Hinata screamed, her voice sharp with terror.

Bright yellow tails flared to life around Naruto, anchoring themselves to the earth and halting the Otsutsuki's momentum. He gritted his teeth, his feet skidding in the dirt as Naruto dug in, forcing himself back to his feet. The golden glow around him intensified, his form shifting into the fierce radiance of Kurama's chakra mode.

"So stubborn," the Otsutsuki spat, irritation flickering in his eyes just as a flash of blue appeared beside Naruto.

Sasuke materialized, sword drawn and eyes blazing. "Looks like you couldn't just keep to your own world," he said coolly, his gaze hardened. "You had to follow me back here."

The Otsutsuki's eyes locked onto Sasuke's, and his face twisted with an unmistakable rage. "You…" He pointed a trembling finger at Sasuke, his voice thick with venom. "You're going to pay for what you did. I haven't forgotten—" his lips curled into a sadistic grin, "and I'll be taking that Rinnegan and the Nine-Tails chakra."

Sasuke glanced at Naruto, a slight smirk playing on his lips as he nodded. "Don't go easy on him."

Naruto's grin matched his. "Right back at ya."

In a surge of energy, Sasuke summoned his perfect Susanoo, its colossal form casting a shadow over the battlefield as it lifted him high into the sky. Naruto's Kyubi cloak flared even brighter, transforming into the giant fox avatar as he roared and braced for the clash. The Otsutsuki stood between them, unfazed, his own chakra swirling ominously around him.

Several minutes into battle, Naruto and Sasuke had worn down the Otsutsuki, his form now battered and on the brink of collapse. Sasuke drew close, his Susanoo blade raised, ready to deliver the final blow. But as the blade swung down, he froze, eyes widening. The Otsutsuki had disappeared from his reach, reappearing just behind Naruto.

Naruto turned sharply on reflex, ready to block but with a calculated precision, the Otsusuki struck Naruto's abdomen with a Gentle Fist, targeting the seal. Naruto's body jolted, a searing red chakra radiating outward as his eyes changed to a feral, slitted form. The air around them grew thick, sizzling with energy as the Otsutsuki smirked in triumph.

But his victory was short-lived. In his rampaging state, Naruto's hand shot out, grabbing the Otsutsuki by the throat, and his chakra began searing into the alien's skin, burning it with the sheer intensity of his rage. With a pained hiss, the Otsutsuki managed to wrest himself free, only to stumble straight into Sasuke's path. Sasuke lunged, but in a swift, desperate move, the Otsutsuki jabbed his palm into Sasuke's face, landing a strike on his left eye. Sasuke staggered back, clutching his now dulled Rinnegan as the pain seared through him.

"My... Rinnegan," Sasuke whispered, fingers trembling around his eye. He turned at a feral roar from Naruto, who had completely lost control, his mind swallowed by a beastly wrath. Sasuke's jaw clenched in frustration. Somehow, the Otsutsuki's Gentle Fist strike had forced Kurama into a frenzied rampage, twisting Naruto's will and leaving him completely unhinged.

Before Sasuke could intervene, Naruto lashed out, grabbing the Otsutsuki again and mercilessly tearing into him, shredding his body with raw, monstrous strength. Sasuke watched, his eye flickering as Naruto's violent chakra pulsed, until finally, with one final blow, the Otsutsuki lay broken and defeated.

But Naruto wasn't finished.

With a guttural roar, he launched himself toward the village, leaving Sasuke no time to breathe. Panic shot through Sasuke as he realized Naruto was a danger now, not just to himself, but to everyone back home. He pushed his own pain aside, speeding after him with everything he had.

They reached the village in seconds, and Naruto, in his Kyubi-fueled fury, skidded to a stop. Villagers scattered, their terrified screams piercing the night as they scrambled to escape. And in the midst of the chaos, Naruto began gathering chakra, a massive, crackling bijudama forming above him. It grew larger and larger, darkening the sky as if he meant to level the entire village.

"Stop! Naruto!" Sasuke shouted, but his voice was swallowed by the deafening hum of energy.

Hinata stood a few feet away, frozen in disbelief as she watched the man she loved consumed by rage, preparing to unleash utter devastation. Her heart clenched painfully, but she took a step forward, her voice soft yet resolute.

"Naruto!"

As Naruto's bijudama dissipated, Sasuke's Mangekyou Sharingan flared with a fierce, unwavering glow. His gaze was locked onto Naruto, his chakra pulsing as he fought to override the beast's will. Naruto, or rather, the Kyubi's rage, twisted with a guttural snarl, resisting the invisible grip of the Sharingan. Sasuke's teeth clenched, his body trembling under the strain of trying to hold his friend back, and he knew it would only be a matter of time before the Nine Tails broke free.

In a final, desperate bid, Sasuke shifted his focus to his Rinnegan, the energy surging one last time as a swirling portal tore open behind Naruto. As the beast turned, its attention flickering momentarily to the otherworldly rift, Sasuke seized the opportunity, lunging forward with every ounce of his remaining strength. His shoulder slammed into Naruto, forcing him backward and through the portal in a single, fluid motion.

The portal closed with a chilling silence, sealing Naruto and Sasuke away.

Sakura stood frozen, her eyes wide, breath hitching as the realization set in. She watched the spot where the portal had been, feeling the hollow echo of Sasuke's sacrifice. A single tear slipped down her cheek, her heart aching as she whispered, "Sasuke… you really would give everything for the village, wouldn't you?"

In that moment, she understood—Sasuke's loyalty was indeed unbreakable. He had just proven it, sealing himself away with Naruto to protect everyone.
