"Peter, don't lock yourself in your room all day. You should go out, socialize a little, relax a bit. Oh, and if there's something you want to eat, tell Aunt May. If she can't make it, I'll make it for you myself."
Seeing Peter stare blankly into space, Uncle Ben assumed he still was not fully awake and smiled as he spoke.
"I've been eating too much meat lately. I kind of want something lighter. A vegetable salad sounds pretty good."
That was true.
He had eaten so much meat for so long that he was getting tired of it. Something lighter would be good for a change, and it might help settle his stomach too.
"All right. When I get back from work, I'll make it myself. Your Aunt May isn't very good at that."
"Okay. I'm heading to school now. See you tonight."
Peter slung his backpack over his shoulder, grabbed another piece of toast from the plate, and walked out the door while yawning.
That left only Uncle Ben and Aunt May in the living room.
"Doesn't it feel like Peter's been acting stranger and stranger lately? And he obviously hasn't been in a good state recently. He always looks exhausted. What has he been busy with?"
Aunt May poured herself a glass of milk, took a small sip, and looked worriedly toward the front door.
Uncle Ben lowered his voice and said, "Probably messing around with one of those weird little inventions of his again. You know how our Peter is. He loves making things. He's probably been researching late into the night, then telling us he stayed up studying because he doesn't want us nagging him. The kid uses all his little tricks on us."
Aunt May smiled and nodded.
"That's true. Remember when he was ten and blew up half his room trying to invent something? We gave him such a lecture. But Peter really is talented when it comes to science. I honestly think he'll probably become a scientist one day."
"Hard to say. But as long as he's happy, whatever he does is fine."

Meanwhile, outside, Peter ran into Gwen on the way to school.
Both of them looked lifeless.
High-intensity fighting plus a complete lack of sleep really did a number on people.
At this point, the only thing the two of them wanted was to get to school and sleep properly for a while. As for whatever the teachers were going to teach... forget it. They had already learned it anyway. Missing one day would not matter.

Harry leaned in, looking completely invested in the gossip.
"Pretty much. We did talk a lot."
"Peter, do you know what day it is today?!"
Harry's question threw Peter off completely.
What day was it?
It definitely was not Thanksgiving. That was still far away.
And Christmas?
It was only early autumn. No way it was Christmas.
"What day? I seriously couldn't care less right now. Sleep matters way more."
"Today's August 10. It's your birthday. Don't tell me you forgot that too?!"
"My birthday?!"
Peter looked at Harry in surprise, then quickly pulled out his phone and checked.
Sure enough, it was August 10.
All right.
He really had been too out of it to notice.
But while he was inwardly complaining, a warm feeling also rose in his chest.
Harry really was a good friend.
