Chapter 43 - “The Girl Behind the Mask”

Meanwhile, Daisy and Sophia sat inside the tent. Olivia was seated in front of them.

Daisy was the first to speak.

"Olivia… let me ask you once more. Why were you after that other girl? The one you used to bully… because of her skin color?"

Olivia slowly lifted her head and met Daisy's gaze. For a moment, she looked lost—then her expression softened, breaking away from the harsh mask she once wore.

"No," she said quietly, shaking her head. "I would never hate anyone because of their skin color. My little brother was Black… and so was my father. I loved them both."

"Then why Lina?" Daisy asked.

Olivia took a shaky breath. "Let me tell you everything… from the beginning."

Daisy nodded. Sophia remained silent, listening closely.

"I am not Enzo's real sister," Olivia said.

Both Daisy and Sophia looked up in shock.

"I was born to a poor man," she continued. "My mother… she was beautiful. She married my father even though we had nothing. We were drowning in debt, but my father… he worked himself to exhaustion just to make sure we never slept hungry. Eventually, my little brother was born. We were poor… but we were happy."

Her voice trembled.

"Then, when I was six… my father became seriously ill from years of overwork. And my mother… she stopped caring. She would leave every night and come back late. I tried to take care of my father and my brother, but I was just a child. And then… my father died."

Olivia's eyes grew watery.

"I buried him with my own hands."

A silence fell over the tent.

"The next day," she continued, "my mother came home with another man. I was furious. I asked her why she would do something like that… and then she told me the truth."

Olivia's voice cracked.

"She said she was the daughter of a wealthy man. She had a boyfriend back then… and she married my father only for fun. A joke. A game."

Daisy and Sophia's expressions darkened.

"Then she said something worse," Olivia whispered. "She told me I wasn't even my father's daughter. I was the child of the man standing beside her."

Her hands tightened.

"My father never knew. He thought she was pregnant with his child. But when he was busy working, she… she aborted his baby and had me with that man instead."

Olivia's breath shook.

"And my brother… he was the only real child my father had. That's why his skin was dark."

Daisy and Sophia froze, disgust and shock flashing across their faces.

"The man who raised me… who loved me… he wasn't my real father," Olivia said. "But he treated me like his own daughter. He gave me everything. He loved me."

Her voice dropped.

"But my mother told me to leave with them. I refused. I said I wanted to stay with my brother."

Her lips trembled into a broken smile.

"She smiled… and said, 'That child belongs to the man who raised you.'"

Olivia's voice shattered.

"My little brother came out of the room then… he had just learned to walk. He was so small…"

Tears spilled down her face.

"My mother looked at him with disgust… and kicked him. He hit the wall so hard… he didn't wake up."

A strangled sob escaped her.

"She killed him… right in front of me."

Silence pressed heavily inside the tent.

"I snapped," Olivia whispered. "I grabbed a knife and tried to stab her… but that man stopped me. They beat me. My mother screamed for him to kill me."

Her voice turned hollow.

"Then Enzo arrived."

Daisy and Sophia listened without moving.

"He saw everything," Olivia said. "He was still young… but he was strong. He had a hidden camera on his shirt. He threatened them with it… and later used it to pay them off. Millions… just to take me away."

Her tears kept falling.

"He brought me to his home. He told me I was his sister now. That I was safe."

Olivia looked down.

"Enzo and his family treated me like I belonged. But I never felt like I did."

She swallowed hard.

"Then I saw Lina at school."

"She looked familiar… so I used Enzo's resources and found out the truth. She's my mother's other daughter."

Daisy frowned. "But why was her skin dark?"

Olivia's expression twisted.

"She does it on purpose," she said bitterly. "She likes attention. She wants boys to protect her… to comfort her… and then she uses them. Just like my mother did."

Her hands shook.

"I heard her talking about it on the phone. That's when I lost it. I thought… I can't let another girl destroy people the way my mother did."

She looked up, tears spilling again.

"Then you came, Daisy. You became her friend. Other boys started following her because of you. I panicked… and I stepped in. I tried to stop it."

Her voice broke completely.

"But I got lost in it… and I started hurting innocent people too."

She collapsed forward, sobbing.

"I'm sorry, Daisy… I don't even deserve to be called human. Hate me… please. Just take revenge on me."

For a moment, there was only silence.

Then Daisy and Sophia both moved closer, each placing a hand on Olivia's shoulders.

"It's okay, Olivia," Daisy said softly.

Olivia looked up, trembling.

Daisy gently pulled her into a hug, resting Olivia's head against her chest.

"People make terrible mistakes when they're hurting," she said. "But it's never too late to change."

"We can start over," Sophia added quietly. "We can be your friends."
