Chapter 68 - Chapter 68 : When Two Memories Collide

It didn't happen gradually. There was no warning. One moment, they stood in the training ground. The next, everything broke. Not shattered. Replaced. The sky changed first. Brighter. Warmer. Too real to be imagination. The ground beneath them turned to dust and stone—ancient. Heavy with history. Mira's grip tightened instantly.

"…Aditya—"

"I see it."

His voice wasn't panicked. But it wasn't calm either. Because this time, he wasn't alone. They both stood there. In the same place. Seeing the same world. The battlefield stretched endlessly. Not silent. Not empty. Echoes of war lingered in the air like something that had happened long ago but never truly ended. Mira's breath slowed.

"…this is real."

"…yes."

Aditya stepped forward. The ground responded beneath his feet. Not resisting. Recognizing. Mira followed. Not because she understood, but because she didn't want to lose sight of him.

"…I've never been here…"

She whispered it. But her voice carried doubt. Because something inside her said otherwise. A presence formed ahead. Not distant this time. Not fading. Clear. The woman stood there. Unmoving. Waiting. Mira stopped. Her breath caught.

"…that's…"

She didn't finish. Because she didn't need to. She knew. Aditya stepped forward.

"…you can see her."

"…yes."

Mira's voice was quieter now. Not afraid. Something else.

"…she's…"

A pause.

"…me."

The truth settled without resistance. Not questioned. Not denied. Accepted. The woman looked at both of them. Not surprised. Not confused. As if this moment was always meant to happen.

"…you're both here."

Her voice carried something deeper. Not just recognition. Relief. Aditya stopped a few steps away.

"…who are you?"

The question came again. But this time, it felt different. Because he already knew part of the answer. The woman's gaze softened.

"…someone you left behind."

A pause.

"…and someone who never left you."

Her eyes shifted to Mira.

"…and someone you became again."

Mira didn't move. Didn't speak. Because something inside her understood. Not fully. But enough.

"…why do we both exist?" Mira asked quietly.

The woman smiled faintly.

"…because one life wasn't enough."

A pause.

"…and one ending wasn't enough either."

Aditya's expression hardened slightly.

"…what does that mean?"

The woman stepped closer.

"…it means you chose wrong."

The words struck sharply.

"…and the world refused to accept it."

Silence. Heavy. Unavoidable.

"…so it broke."

A pause.

"…and it brought you back."

Aditya clenched his hand slightly.

"…back to fix it."

"…yes."

The answer was simple. Too simple. Mira stepped forward now.

"…and me?"

The woman looked at her.

"…you were never separate."

A small pause.

"…just divided."

The word lingered. Divided. Not reborn. Not replaced. Split. Mira's breath caught slightly.

"…so I'm…"

"…both."

The answer came gently. But it carried weight.

"…the one who stayed…"

"…and the one who moved on."

Silence followed. Because that truth changed everything. Aditya stepped forward again.

"…then what happens now?"

The woman looked at him.

"…that depends."

A pause.

"…on whether you make the same choice again."

The air shifted. Not violently. But heavily.

"…what choice?"

Aditya's voice was sharper now. More urgent. The woman's expression softened slightly. Almost sad.

"…the one that cost you everything."

Before he could ask, the world broke again. The battlefield faded. The sky shattered. The training ground returned. Mira stumbled slightly. Aditya caught her immediately.

"…you saw it."

"…all of it."

Her voice was unsteady. Not from fear. From realization.

"…she's me."

Aditya didn't deny it.

"…yes."

A pause.

"…and not just you."

"…both of you."

Mira looked at him.

"…then what does that make me?"

He didn't answer immediately. Because the answer was still forming. But one thing was clear.

"…someone I can't lose."

The words came quietly. But with certainty. Mira held his gaze. Not questioning. Not doubting. Just understanding. Because now, this wasn't just connection. It was something deeper. Something that had existed across lives, across choices, across endings. And for the first time, they both knew it.
