Chapter 28 - Treaty Exposure

Draven stepped back, clearing his throat. "We should head inside, the rain is getting heavy," he says, leading Aurelian away. When they arrived at their chambers, Aurelian awkwardly speaks, "I'll go change first." He smiled and quickly left for the bath house. Draven chuckled and watched him go. After a while, they both had cleaned up and changed into dry clothes. Aurelian sits down nervously while Draven settles on the other side of the bed. "Well… about what happened—" Aurelian starts but got interrupted by a loud knock on the door. Draven frowns, his irritation skyrocketing. He walks over to the door and opened it."Have you no manners?" he scolded. The royal physician at the door calmly apologized. "I'm sorry, your highness, please excuse my behaviour." Draven stepped aside to let him in. The royal physician walks in with his herbal box. "I'm here to check on his highness' condition and prescribe more medicine. Has there been any improvement?" he questioned. Aurelian got up from the bed. "Yes, there has been," Aurelian responded. Draven looked at him with a smirk. "You seem eager to tell people we kissed," he teased. Aurelian looked scandalized. "What? No! I just…"

he says defensively, colour rising to his cheeks. Draven's smirk widened into a grin. "You what?" he asks, stepping into Aurelian's space. He could feel his heart pounding but paid no mind to it. He looked Aurelian in the eyes, the intensity of his gaze making Aurelian squirm in place. The royal physician, totally forgotten where he stood, could feel the tension. He cleared his throat awkwardly as if to say I'm still here. "I can see there have been unquestionable improvements," he mutters. Aurelian blushed even more and pulled away from Draven. "Make it quick, physician," Draven says, annoyed. He lay down on the bed, letting the physician examine him. After a thorough check on Draven, the physician started clearing his tools. Draven sat up and looked at the man. "So?" The royal physician's gaze shifted from Draven to Aurelian then back to Draven. "Your Highness, Your Grace… I'm afraid Prince Draven isn't fully healed yet," he paused, his lips pressing into a line before continuing. "This is a rare case. His emotions are somehow not restricted to you, Prince Aurelian." Draven doesn't look the slightest bit surprised. "If that's all then you can leave." The royal physician bowed and excused himself. After he had left, Draven looked at Aurelian who hasn't moved from one spot. "What are you thinking about?" he questioned. Aurelian shook his head dismissing the matter. "Nothing."

At the Grand Duke's region, A servant had reported to Drusilla about the display of affection between Draven and Aurelian in the garden. Drusilla stormed to her father's chambers furiously. "I will not accept this! How could your most capable assassin fail to kill that bastard!" The grand duke looks at her,"Drusilla you'll have to calm down, I'm thinking of something else", "think fast father, that so called Aurelian was seen kissing my man! I will not allow it! I want him Dead, father" Drusilla pushed, her voice full of rage for Aurelian, "and it's either you do something fast or I will", she added. The Grand Duke unconsciously plays with the ring on his finger,"Kissed huh... They're going past the treaty", he whispers more to himself but Drusilla caught that. "Treaty? What about it?", she asked. The Grand Duke smirked,"I just got an incredible idea, daughter, since that pest Aurelian is getting in the way of my plans, I'll have to find another way", he chuckled. "Bring me the best gossip distributor this kingdom has", he ordered a guard.

Later that day, Draven and Aurelian were summoned to the throne room. Apparently, information about the treaty causing the marriage between Draven and Aurelian had been leaked. The king sat in his throne looking down at his son and Aurelian. "The people are questioning the treaty. What caused it, and what caused the initial war between Moonveil Kingdom and Nightborne Kingdom?" One royal advisor says. Draven met his father's gaze. "Well... I, Crown Prince Draven of Nightbane kingdom, asks the same question, father. What caused the war?" Draven utters to King Malric. King Malric sighed and stared ahead as if looking into something far beyond the palace walls. And then he opens his mouth and speaks, "The only way to explain it… is to start from the beginning of it all."
