Chapter 101 - [101]: Has Naruto flopped? (Bonus chapter)

As a fair and just anti-moon gentleman, he would certainly criticize without hesitation many of Nasu Kinoko's murky operations and the President's increasingly lazy and subpar artwork.

But conversely, he would also correctly evaluate and praise proper actions.

Supporting doujin creations, inviting external authors to write, and recruiting or incorporating independent doujin creators—these were all correct moves in his eyes.

Gen Urobuchi, Sakurai Hikaru, Higashide Yuuichirou, Narita Ryohgo, Sanda Makoto, TAa, Hiroyama Hiroshi—

Koyama Hirokazu, Wada Arco, Kagehoushi, Sougetsu Takao, pako, Nakahara, Shimokoshi—

In addition to Nasu Kinoko and Takeuchi Takashi, the core of Type-Moon, it was the output of the aforementioned creators, as well as those not mentioned, that ultimately allowed for the creation of a massive Type-Moon world.

Though at times the content produced by some people was truly hard to describe, that's a separate matter.

However, regarding the act of creation itself, he was a firm supporter.

Therefore, for his current self, this was something worth learning and imitating.

Even if he could, with enough effort, replicate all the Type-Moon works from his previous life by himself, he couldn't just stop developing after that, could he?

So recruiting new blood was clearly necessary.

Then again, for his current self and Type-Moon, considering this issue was actually a bit premature.

After all, Fate/stay night has only been serialized for 14 chapters, and the previously written Kara no Kyoukai hasn't been released yet. It's like the framework hasn't even been built; how can you invite others to play?

So he kept this thought in the back of his mind for now.

On the other hand, Hisashi soon called to notify him of this week's shōsei results for the 14th chapter.

The shōsei results for Chapter 14 returned to the top, taking 1st place.

It seemed the vast majority of readers were quite satisfied with Illya's unexpected appearance.

Even though Illya had just nearly killed Emiya Shirou before this.

But as a super cute white-haired little loli, Illya's behavior in this chapter—clinging to Shirou's arm and acting spoiled—was clearly more than many readers could handle.

However, at the same time, Naruto's shōsei results continued to decline, with its ranking dropping to 11th place, already falling below The Prince of Tennis.

Akira was somewhat surprised by this, but after re-reading this week's 3rd chapter of Naruto, he felt this result wasn't undeserved.

In the third chapter of Naruto, the story finally reaches the team assignment plot. At the same time, two super heavyweight characters make their first appearance in this chapter—

Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno.

The title of this chapter is also "Sasuke Uchiha."

Unfortunately, readers of the world have yet to understand the significance of these two characters.

Upon their introduction, Kishimoto used narration to give both characters clear roles—Sakura Haruno is the female character the protagonist Naruto Uzumaki has a crush on, but she finds Naruto Uzumaki repulsive.

Sasuke Uchiha is the person Sakura Haruno likes and also the person Naruto Uzumaki hates most, yet he is indifferent toward Sakura Haruno.

It started right off with a love triangle.

Then came the famous Naruto scene, the century-defining kiss between Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha.

While future Naruto fans would fondly remember this as a classic scene, at this point in the serialization, it was just an unexpected comedy bit.

But the plot that followed was quite something.

During the lunch break after the teams were assigned, Naruto Uzumaki ambushed Sasuke, tied him up, and then transformed into Sasuke's appearance to approach Sakura Haruno, nearly succeeding in tricking her into a kiss.

But because he had eaten expired food, he suddenly got a stomachache, which interrupted Naruto Uzumaki at the last moment, sending him running to the toilet while clutching his stomach.

Meanwhile, the real Sasuke broke free from his bonds and ran into Sakura Haruno while looking for Naruto.

Then another classic scene occurred, with Sakura Haruno's explosive remark: "See, isn't he an orphan?"

"That's why he's always acting out willfully. If I were like that, my parents would have scolded me to death!"

However, compared to the original manga content, what circulated more widely on the internet in the future was actually the animation team's adapted version.

In the anime adaptation of this segment, Sakura Haruno was given an even more mocking expression, effectively maxing out her offensive power.

One could only say the production team really knew how to be mocking.

Looking back, Akira hadn't expected this small third chapter to contain two major classic scenes at once.

I stand corrected.

Additionally, he could see that Kishimoto's purpose in designing this chapter was likely to lay the groundwork for Sasuke's background, but the execution of the plot was indeed quite hard to describe.

Even setting aside the sudden love triangle between Naruto and the two new characters, Naruto's actions in this plot were a bit low.

If this weren't a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, the plot would have taken on a completely different style.

In fact, if Sakura Haruno had known she was almost successfully tricked into a kiss by Naruto Uzumaki just now, her offensive remarks would have become perfectly reasonable.

Thinking of this, he couldn't help but lose his composure a bit.

Furthermore, while Naruto was in the toilet, he was actually feeling smug, thinking that his actions might make Sakura Haruno hate Sasuke.

On the other side, Sasuke expressed that he hated Sakura Haruno because of her "orphan" comment.

While Sasuke might have only said that because he was genuinely offended, to the readers of this world, it seemed more like Sasuke was defending Naruto.

By comparison, Sasuke seemed more like the manga's protagonist, while Naruto's performance was a bit like a clown.

It's hard to imagine what kind of headspace Kishimoto was in when he created this chapter.

One can only say that the 11th-place ranking for Naruto was indeed justified.

You've really flopped, Kishimoto.

Judging solely by the content of these first three chapters, it really wasn't easy for Naruto to pass the serialization meeting.

So the question is—at which chapter did Naruto finally start getting good?

Akira stroked his chin, lost in thought.

However, Hisashi didn't care about Naruto's results; what was more important to him was Akira's business. "Mochizuki-sensei, do you still remember Kara no Kyoukai?"

"Of course."

Hisashi's voice brought Akira back to reality.

Hearing the other party mention Kara no Kyoukai, he immediately recalled the related issues they had discussed before, and his eyes lit up. "Could it be—?!"

"That's right."

Hisashi nodded with a smile. "According to what we discussed before, now that the first tankobon of Fate/stay night has been released, we can begin the production of Kara no Kyoukai."
