I was eating a pot noodle when my phone rang.
'Interesting… an unknown phone number… my first scam?! For real this time!!'
Filled with glee, I accepted the call.
"Is this the pro hero Blitzen?"
A familiar voice came out of the phone.
"Yeah…"
"My name is Nezu. And I'm the adorable principle of UA!!!"
…
"So this isn't a scam call?"
"No, not at all. Lets just say… you've piqued my interest."
"Hmmm *slurp* I dunno what this is about… can you get to the point?"
"Well-"
Slurp
"I was wondering-"
Slurp
"If you would be willing-"
Slurp
"To come and have a chat in UA."
I brought up some food to my mouth before placing it back down.
'Why?'
"Still haven't answered my question."
"Someone in our school has expressed interest in you, and considering your rise I would like to have good relations with you."
'Don't tell me…'
"When should I come?"
"Saturday at 3pm would suffice."
"Got it."
I hung up.
'What scheme is this…'
——
I was standing outside the gates of UA on Saturday at 2:57pm.
'Early once more.'
I felt a presence looking at me from my right side.
'Bingo.'
I lunged over there and fell straight into little Takaba's domain where I could see him sitting on the floor.
His eyes rose and yet I was already in front of him.
"Whatcha looking at. Kid."
"Gulp."
"Don't say gulp aloud."
I slapped my face as punishment.
'I was a dumbass back then.'
"How did you see me?"
"I could feel your gaze. Now let's leave."
I pictured Nezu's hallway and appeared there in an instant before knocking on the door.
"Come in!"
Opening the door I saw Nezu sitting in a chair and a slight glimmering in the corner of the room on the ceiling.
'Sigh.'
"Take a seat." Nezu sat on a couch and offered the opposite to me.
I sat down.
"Tea?"
"No thanks."
"Okay!" He poured himself a cup.
"Takaba. Come out and join us."
Takaba then crawled out of the couch and sat next to Nezu.
Nezu offered him tea and yet he declined.
Nezu coughed and began.
"You look a lot like young Takaba, and you know him somewhat. So let's get down to business. What is your relation to him?"
"He went to an orphanage I supported… I also happened to help drop him off here."
Nezu took a sip.
"Go on."
"He caught my eye, that's all. We have the same hair colour after all."
"Since you're hiding things… I have some material on you I'd like to bring forth."
'Blackmail?'
Nezu continued.
"There isn't any records of you before the day Takaba was born." He placed a picture of me on the security camera outside the hospital I was born at.
"Furthermore here I can see you travelling around. Here and there, what is interesting is that entire organisations were wiped out whenever you visited. These organisations were already on my personal watchlist for villainous activities. I assume that you killed them all."
"I did travel there. I didn't kill anyone however."
Nezu sat forward.
"Moving on, I can see an anonymous report was given to the police just a couple days after you appeared. An entire underground lab was found yet everything was destroyed. After finding records of the call the reporter's voice matches yours entirely."
"Coincidence." I leaned back in my chair.
Takaba's eyes furrowed as he understood what Nezu had been insinuating.
He muttered under his breath, Nezu didn't hear but I did with my enhanced hearing.
"Taking out the plot early…"
Nezu still continued.
"And most recently. The Shie Hassiki. An entire Yakuza brutally murdered in the middle of the day. All relevant victims were left alive. After expressive research I found evidence that only the slain were the ones who had links to crimes. Even one of the guards who only had a gambling addiction and no clear ties was spared.
This is similar to what happened when you were… travelling."
"Interesting." I chimed in.
"The only footage we have of the culprit is this one frame." He pushed a image onto the table.
It was a grainy image in which about half of a large baseball bat was visible in the corner. Couldn't see the hands attached or anything similar.
"Wound reports showed all murders were done using this bat. Apart from one person. Overhaul, as many would know him. I won't detail his legal name here."
"I see lots of murders… does this mean you've caught the murderer." I mused, stroking my non-existent beard.
"I believe it's you."
Takaba nodded as well.
"Okay. Is the meeting over now."
'Evidence isn't damming enough, no judge will rule this.'
My tone was final.
"Oh no!" Nezu took a sip. "That was just so we could get to know each other better! I brought you here because little Takaba showed interest in you."
His tail swished back and forth.
'I knew it, he ratted on me.'
"You want training or something?"
"Well that would work… how about we have another chat, let's say about 8 months from now?"
'He's planning on making the scanner… isn't he taking longer than I did though? Maybe he's relaxed because I dealt with the villains…'
To be fair, it sounded like me.
I guess you could say…
That I was some kind of…
Lazy Warper.
