Chapter 7 - The Talk (dun dun duuuuhhhh)

I followed him to his office. After all there was not much I could do. I was busted.

——

"So there young man. Care to explain why you have trespassed on my property". It said crawling up onto a couch.

"May I sit first sir?" I said, still standing in the doorway.

"Why of course. Care for some tea?" He said pouring some into his own cup before taking a sip.

"No thanks, I think I'm too young" I said while climbing onto the opposite couch.

"Back to business then. Why are you here?"

"Well I wanted some insurance due to my quirks nature."

"If it's training you want then you have to wait a decade or so young man."

*Sip*

"So you see… the thing is… I heard that this place was the safest in all of Japan. And I kind of need a safe place due to my quirks properties." I said looking down while playing with my hands.

*Sip*

"How about you explain some more. After all your quirk only seems to be recently awakened and doesn't make me inclined to believe it needs anything that would need security. Especially from a place like this." He explained pointedly.

*Sip*

"As you would've seen already. My quirk has to do with teleportation or portals. It's called Void Step and it allows me to make portals anywhere within line of sight or a place I can easily remember within a certain perimeter around me."

*Sip*

"Go on. I've yet to hear a proper reason for this visit so to speak."

"You see-"

*Sip*

"- my quirk isn't fully utilised. I need a specific place in which to ground a gate allowing me to use the rest of my quirk. I came here hopeful that you would allow me to place it here."

He set the teacup down and placed his hands together. "Well. That's quite interesting isn't it. Depending on your answer I might just allow it. Go on explain the rest."

"Okay, so my portals are meant to place me within a domain which I can access. But without a grounded spot I can't get in. I keep getting kicked out however I can control where I get kicked out allowing me to travel distances. Furthermore, whoever knows of where I've grounded my quirk can slip into my domain by thinking about it and physically touching the entrance." I slowly shifted in my seat raising my head.

He looked at me unblinkingly. Waiting for something.

"Within my domain I can create anything I can picture or think of. In return for missing knowledge I can fall unconscious into a coma like state depending on its complexity or how much it can break the laws of reality. Doing something supernatural." I steeled my gaze and looked into his eyes before glancing away.

"Well then. It seems introductions are in order." He clapped his fingers pulled out his phone and said. "I am principal Nezu and you are Kurusu Takaba of the Mustafu orphanage. I assume you made your way here? How resourceful."

'He's got me. Not that I didn't expect a doxxing but damn that was fast."

"Is that what it's called?" I asked plainly.

'Not a very creative name. The author must be lazy or something.'

"Yes. Now concerning yourself… I can see value within your quirk. It is truly worth cultivating especially if we can come to an understanding. I'm sure you will agree. In fact it might even be the reason you are here. Perhaps I'm overestimating a four year olds intelligence but. Would you be willing to be adopted and brought up here. To train and 'ground' your quirk here. If you promise to work for me until you die?"

'How can he sit so calmly after saying that? He's promising free comfort, training and a job. It's basically a life plan. It's perfect for someone aimless like me. After all, here there are the best of the best. The only potential problem is how hard he intends to work me since it is until death.'

'Let's be rash.'

"Ah whatever!" I looked directly at him. He was small, looked like a humanoid white mouse, with a large scar crossing his right eye and had intelligence far surpassing mine within them. "Deal. I'll do whatever just allow for me to have lie ins from time to time okay?"

"Of course. Now let's drive you to your orphanage before they realise you have gone and committed several illegal acts hmm?"

'Is that a grin..? What have I gotten myself into. This is gonna be a long one huh.'

—20 minutes later —

The car pulled up onto the entrance of the orphanage and I heard Nezu's voice come from the front. "How about you get back in there and we'll find a place to park then come and get you?"

"Got it. See you then…" I climbed out of the car and slipped into my room.

Quickly surveying the surroundings I stuffed my paper back into my pocket and ran to the toilet. Relieving myself and making sure to flush the paper down with it.

'My master plan is complete. Heh. And now we play the waiting game. Oops! Nearly forgot to wash my hands!'

——

The headmistress walked into my room and ordered me. "Get downstairs, an adoption might be happening."

"Okay miss." I replied not missing a beat before walking past to meet the adoptees.

I suddenly stopped, nearly bumping into the headmistress as she followed. "Excuse me for asking but what kind of child did they ask for?"

"Ah well.." she looked away, feeling uncomfortable. "They asked for a four year old child… whowasverysmall, unsociableandhadawarpingquirkandcommittedseveralillegalcrimesthathadgroundsforsuing." She muttered very fast. I caught most of it.

"Ah… I'm not that small am I?"

*Smack*

"Stupid boy. Go be with your new family."

'Cats out of the bag I guess. I deserved that slap to my cranium though.'

Walking down the stairs I saw an expectant Nezu waiting for me. He smiled politely at the headmistress and said. "You know normally for adoption the couple need to be married in order to be able to adopt! Thankfully I have a special citizenship that allows me to bypass that. Since I was not born a human being after all."

'Did he just wink at me?'

——

As I was leaving I noticed one of my seniors lurking around the entrance. As I recall he had a quirk that allowed him to be a prick or something. Yeah that sounds about right!

"See ya around little one." He said before walking away with his hands in his pockets.

'What on earth was that? Did he just try and get philosophical on me?'

I was so disturbed that I didn't even notice where I was going until Nezu said. "That's quite enough I think. Get into the car. I've already arranged for your new home."

"Thanks. Just to be clear do I have to call you dad now?" I said somberly waiting for his reply before I closed the car door.

"Well it depends on whether I truly believe you to be my son. Parentage is something I'm quite new to. Maybe I'll have to accept you as my son first or something of the sort!" He then shut my door for me with it shutting just an inch from my face.

"Phew."

'Wait a minute I haven't had a booster seat this entire time. Is this safe?'

Suddenly, the other backseat car door opened showing Nezu struggling to carry a booster seat into the car.

I quickly removed my seatbelt and took it in for him, before equipping it to the seat next to me.

He had another one. "Just lemme take it." I said exasperated as I added that one to my seat to.

Nezu then jumped in clipped his seatbelt and looked at me doing the same and said. "Ah. They grown up so fast. I can't believe you're already taking care of my weary bones. Thankfully I had a spare booster seat huh?"

*Slam*

I immediately looked at his expectant face turned to face the window and said. "This is gonna be a tough couple of years huh?"

*Slam*

Nezu chuckled and said. "Of course! Anything for my only son!"

'I'm gonna be teased forever. Maybe the senior knew this and actually came to wish me luck.'

'I still have no idea who the damn driver is.'

A/N: hope I did Nezu's character justice that lovable little goofball.
