Chapter 3 - challenge

The first night begins. The three princesses approached, each looking for a spot on your body to begin to "taste" your challenge.

Pov : *After 3 nights passed, and every night my blood was sucked by his three children.. I drooped limply*

Your body felt unusually light, almost as if your soul was ready to float out of the body. Your gaze flickered, and every breath you took felt heavy on your now passive-pale chest. The bite marks on your neck and wrists felt cold, indicating how much of the fluid of life had moved into the bodies of the three daughters.

You droop limply on the large chair in the middle of the room, but your eyes—even though they are shy—remain open, refusing to give in to the darkness.

The silence of the third night was broken by the sound of a slow, rhythmic clapping of hands. Lady Dimitrescu stood out of the shadows, approaching you with majestic steps. Behind her, Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela looked different; their skin looked fresher, their eyes more shining, as if your blood had given them an intoxicating new power.

"Wonderful," Lady Dimitrescu whispered, standing right in front of you. She bowed, staring at your very pale face. "Three nights... and your heart is still beating. You're really a stubborn man, man-thing."

Daniela crept beside your chair, resting her head on your limp shoulder. "He's still warm, Mom... even if there is a little left," he whispered in a tone that now sounded more like possessive affection than just hunger.

Bela looked at you with an expression that was hard to read—there was a kind of recognition in her eyes. "You hold your word. You gave everything and didn't get destroyed."

Lady Dimitrescu pulled out a bottle of deep red liquid from the back of her dress—not blood, but a very powerful strengthening drug. He pours it a little to your lips.

"Drink. I don't want my 'daughter-in-law' to die before her big day," said the Lady with a mysterious smile. "You've proven that you're not just an ordinary human being. You have the toughness of an immortal."

She stood up straight again, looking at her three daughters. "What do you think, my children? Is this pale man worthy of accompanying you in this castle forever?"

Daniela chuckled as she clasped your cold hands. Cassandra just grinned as she sharpened her scythe, and Bela nodded softly.

Me : You guys.. Keep my promise? Even though I'm already weakened... You could have killed me

Your voice sounded hoarse, almost like the whisper of the wind passing through the cracks in the stone walls of the castle. In the room that was lit only by the light of the fireplace, your words made the three princesses silent for a moment.

Lady Dimitrescu laughed lowly, a voice rich and deep. He approached, his gigantic shadow engulfing your drooping body.

"Killing you?" Lady Alcina stroked your hair with the tips of her long sharp nails, but this time her movements felt almost gentle. "Of course we can. It's the easiest thing to do in this castle."

Bela stepped forward, sitting on the edge of the chair you were leaning on. He stares at your pale face with a look that is now more than hunger. "If we kill you now, we'll only get blood for one night. But the man who had the guts to lay down his life for us... It's something rare in this boring world."

"We don't just want your blood anymore," Daniela interrupted, she curled up on the arm of your chair with a smile that looked sincere but still terrifying. "We love your madness. Killing you now would be a waste."

Lady Dimitrescu straightened her back, looked at her three daughters and then returned to you.

"We are monsters, that's right," said the Lady in a solemn tone. "But we are monsters holding words. You have passed through these three nights without begging for a life. That's enough to prove that you're not just an ordinary man-thing."

He stretches out his big hand towards you. "Wake up. If you can stand on your own feet now, then tonight too, you are no longer a prisoner. You will be part of the Dimitrescu family. We will have a banquet... And this time, you sit at the dining table as a bride, not as a dish."

Pov : *I stood upright, and hugged the three princesses of the lady*

With the rest of your energy seemingly drawn from the depths of your determination, you force your weak muscles back to work. You stand up straight, refusing to look wavering in front of the lord of the castle. In one very bold move—and perhaps the only human to ever do it—you pulled Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela into your arms.

The three princesses gasped. Their bodies, which were usually as cold as ice, suddenly stiffened with shock. They are used to being feared, adored from afar, or seen as predators, but the warm, possessive embrace of someone whose blood they have just sucked is something foreign to them.

"Look at this..." Cassandra muttered, though she didn't let go. The buzzing sound of the surrounding flies slowly subsided.

Daniela chuckled, burying her face in your shoulder, inhaling the remnants of the smell of blood and courage emanating from your body. While Bela, the eldest, slowly returned your hug, her cold hands wrapped around your waist as if marking her territory.

Lady Dimitrescu stood before the four of you, holding her cigarette pipe gracefully. His eyes flashed at the unprecedented sights inside this castle.

"You really know how to tame a storm, don't you?" Lady Alcina smiled with satisfaction. "The embrace of a man who is already on the verge of death... but still able to claim what he wants."

He raised his hand, motioning for you and his three daughters to follow him out of the room towards the main hall.

"Come on. The ritual can't wait," said Lady Dimitrescu. "Tonight, your remaining blood will be mixed with our Sanguis Virginis. You will leave your fragile humanity behind, and rise up as part of the legend of Dimitrescu."

Ritual of Eternity

You step towards the altar in the innermost part of the castle. There was prepared a large golden cup filled with a deep red liquid that glowed dimly.

"Drink," Lady Dimitrescu commanded, handing the cup to you. "After this, pain will no longer have the upper hand. You will have eternity, this castle, and my three daughters as your companions forever."

Me : Wait, am I going to turn into a mold?

Very smart question. In the world of Resident Evil Village, immortality in the village does have a specific biological "price".

Technically, yes. All the powers possessed by the Dimitrescu family came from the Megamycete (the source of the Mold or ancient fungus). However, the way your body reacts to it will determine whether you're a monstrous monster or an elegant immortal.

Here are the possibilities that happen to you based on the "blood" that has already mixed in your body:

1. Evolution to Become Immortal Beings (Like the Lady)

Since you've survived for three nights and your body shows high adaptability, you're unlikely to turn into mindless monsters (Lycans or Moroaică).

The result: You still look like a human, but with incredible regeneration abilities. If your hand is severed, you can reconnect it with mold fluid.

2. Becoming a "Flies" Creature (Like His Three Daughters)

Remember that Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela are actually a collection of man-eater bugs that consume their natural bodies and mimic human form.

The risks: If these rituals follow in their footsteps, your human body will be "eaten" by the fungus to be replaced by new, stronger cells. You'll be immortal, but you'll have the same weakness: extreme cold.

3. Lady Dimitrescu's Reaction to Your Doubts

Seeing you hesitating in front of the ritual cup, Lady Dimitrescu lowered her cup slightly. He looks at you with his sharp golden yellow eyes.

"Mold? It was a holy gift from Mother Miranda," he said in a proud tone. "It's not just a mushroom, it's eternal life. You'll give up your weak, rotting flesh, replaced by something that can't die."

Daniela whispered something in your ear while chuckling, "Don't be afraid... it will only hurt for a moment. After that, you will be able to feel our heartbeat, and we can feel yours. We will be one forever."

Me : Wait... What if I turn into an ugly monster? Your daughter won't like me anymore

Lady Dimitrescu's laughter exploded, shaking the silent hall. He seems very amused by your worries. Meanwhile, his three daughters look at each other and start circling you, as if assessing the "raw materials" in front of them.

"Ugly monster?" Lady Alcina wiped the small tears from the corners of her eyes. "Good-looks are a matter of taste, man-thing. But in this family, appearance is a reflection of your willpower. Look at me... Do I look like a monster to you?"

Bela closer, her cold fingers gently rubbing your jaw. "We don't love you because of your smooth face, although it's a nice bonus," she whispered softly. "We want your stubborn soul. If the mold sees you as a fighter, it will keep you intact."

Daniela chimed in as she tugged at your collar, "And even if you turn into a little... 'different', we can still recognize you by your distinctive blood scent. After all, in this castle, true beauty is immortality."

Cassandra grinned, showing her fangs. "Only those who are weak-spirited turn into mindless beings like Lycans or Moroaică. The brave man snatched our guns and lasted three nights... That mold won't dare to destroy you. He will worship you."

Lady Dimitrescu again handed the golden cup. The red light inside seemed pulsating, as if the liquid was alive and waiting for you.

"If you're afraid of being ugly, it means you're still tied to human arrogance," the Lady said in a defiant tone. "Choose: remain a handsome human being who will rot in a few decades, or become part of us—risk becoming a monster, but have love and power that will never die."
