Chapter 1 - fate in the air(chp 1)

CHAPTER ONE

My name is Lilac, and I am an average girl.

At least, I was… until the phenomenon happened.

Four years ago, something strange began happening to people's bodies. Suddenly, everyone started manifesting secondary genders: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. I was seventeen when I experienced my own manifestation. Thankfully, hospitals had already gathered some knowledge about the strange phenomenon, so people didn't panic as much anymore.

Because of this change, the government created new laws to regulate society. One strange part of the phenomenon was that you could only smell the pheromone of your soulmate. Many people thought it was an easy way to find the person meant for them.

At least, that's what I thought.

Back to the present…

"Ahhh… what a load of bullshit."

Two years later, and as an Omega or whatever, I still haven't found my soulmate. What the hell. I manifested four years ago, graduated from university three years later, and have been working in different companies since then. Not once have I kissed anyone or had sex.

Sigh.

Well, anyway, I left my previous companies because my best friend, Mary, said they weren't good for me. I still don't understand why she said that, but I trusted her and quit anyway.

Probably because I like her.

I've had a crush on Mary for almost three years now… and she still doesn't know.

I was walking slowly down the road when a car suddenly pulled up beside me. The window rolled down.

"Hey… you know you're going to be late, right?"

What the hell? Who is this?

"Hm. No, I don't know you," I replied and continued walking.

"Aren't you going to Olaria Business Enterprise?" the stranger asked.

I stopped.

"How do you know that?" I asked. That's the company where I just got a job.

"Well, you're wearing the company ID card," she said calmly. "And just so you're not too nervous, my name is Ola."

"Oh." I quickly grabbed my badge. How did I forget about that?

"But what do you mean I'm going to be late?" I asked.

"Check the time," Ola replied. "You were still walking slowly. Are you trying to get fired before even starting?" She stared at me.

I checked my phone.

"Oh! You're right!"

I quickly opened the car door and jumped in.

"Let's go, quickly!"

Ola looked surprised but nodded. "Uh… alright. By the way, what's your name? I couldn't really see it clearly on your badge."

I finally looked at her properly.

And immediately blurted out, "Goddamn… you're really pretty."

My eyes widened, and I quickly covered my mouth.

"I'm sorry! My name is Lilac."

Ola looked slightly stunned by the unexpected compliment.

"Oh… thank you, I guess. Lilac."

Three minutes later

"We're almost there," Ola said.

"Finally," I sighed. "By the way, are you an intern too?" I asked, turning to face her.

Ola scratched her head.

Should I tell her… or lie? she thought. Well, unless the managing director wants to see me, we probably won't meet much anyway.

"Hmm… yeah," she replied.

I let out a relieved sigh.

"I'm happy to meet another intern. I don't know anyone here, so I was really nervous about being the only one."

Without thinking, I grabbed her hand.

Ola looked surprised at the sudden gesture.

"Uh… yeah," she said awkwardly as she drove into the company parking garage. "You can go in first. I need to park."

"Oh, okay. Thanks for the ride!" I waved at her. "See you inside!"

Ola watched Lilac walk toward the building.

"I really hope we don't," she murmured.

She then drove toward the CEO's reserved parking spot and parked there.
