Elain hadn't heard much about Leo Fausten, other than that he was a courtier's son.
Probably because people didn't have much information about the man. He had studied in another city over the past few years and had only returned to Ashbrook a few months ago.
While Leo Fausten and Lady Annelle greeted some people, Rory walked over to where Elain stood after greeting a group of young ladies.
Elain saw the smile fall from her cousin's face when Rory noticed the couple's arrival.
"I heard they are getting married next month," Elain overheard from a group of ladies nearby, their eyes on Mr. Fausten and Lady Annelle.
Rory, beside Elain, lowered her gaze to the drink in her hand. Elain sighed. She didn't know how to comfort her cousin, so she remained silent, fearing that if she spoke, she might only say the wrong things.
The ladies nearby continued their gossip.
