Chapter 10 - First Encounter of True Conflict

The night had settled over the mansion, turning the world outside into a blur of streetlights and shadows.

Inside, the dining room remained calm.

Lu Bolin and Gu Yichen sat across from each other at the long table. The plates had been cleared, leaving only untouched desserts and two glasses of water. The quiet was thick, almost tangible, but neither of them broke it.

Lu Bolin picked up his notebook and made a small note, his pen moving softly across the page. The system hovered nearby, silently observing.

[Villain interest: 48% → 51%]

"Interesting," Lu Bolin muttered quietly.

The system blinked.

[Host did not vocalize calculation. Why?]

Lu Bolin leaned back slightly in his chair, keeping his expression neutral.

"Verbalizing is unnecessary. Observation speaks louder than words."

Across the table, Gu Yichen's gaze was sharp, unwavering. He studied every small motion, every subtle twitch in Lu Bolin's posture, but the calmness—the almost unnerving calmness—was precisely what drew him in.

"I don't understand why you're so…" Gu Yichen paused, choosing his words carefully, "…calm."

Lu Bolin tilted his head slightly.

"Why would I be otherwise?"

Gu Yichen's dark eyes narrowed. He leaned forward, elbows on the table.

"Because people are not calm when someone watches them like this. Especially when that person knows things you don't want them to know."

Lu Bolin considered that carefully. Then, slowly, he wrote something in his notebook before speaking:

"Observation is neutral. Emotion is not required for accuracy."

Gu Yichen's lips curved slightly, almost like a smirk.

"So, you're saying you're above me?"

"I am not above anyone. I simply choose to observe before acting."

Gu Yichen leaned back, his mind racing. Three days. Three days of minimal conversation. And now, the person sitting across from him—this young man—was not chasing, not pleading, not begging for attention. Instead, he was quietly observing him. Studying. Analyzing. And Gu Yichen realized with a shiver that he hated it… and yet he couldn't stop being drawn in.

"Do you know what's dangerous about what you're doing?" Gu Yichen's voice was low, almost a growl.

Lu Bolin blinked slowly.

"Explain."

"You're… you're making me think," Gu Yichen said. His hand tapped lightly on the wooden table. "You're making me want something I shouldn't. You've disrupted every habit I've built, every way I've controlled my emotions, my life… and you did it without even trying."

Lu Bolin tilted his head again.

"Then you are reacting naturally."

Gu Yichen's hand clenched slightly. His pulse quickened.

"Yes," he admitted, almost in a whisper, "but I'm not supposed to react this way. Not to anyone. Least of all to you."

Lu Bolin calmly wrote another note in his notebook:

Villain acknowledging emotional disruption. Recording intensity.

The system beeped silently.

[Villain emotional fluctuation detected. Interest Level: 55%]

Lu Bolin glanced at it, nodding faintly.

"Predictable."

Gu Yichen froze slightly.

"You called it predictable?"

"Yes," Lu Bolin said simply. "Human behavioral patterns often follow certain tendencies. Predictable deviations, once detected, are easy to anticipate."

Gu Yichen stared at him, dark eyes narrowing. Something about that tone—so detached, so controlled—made Gu Yichen's chest tighten.

He leaned closer across the table.

"You really enjoy this, don't you? Watching me squirm? Testing me?"

Lu Bolin looked up calmly.

"I am observing, not enjoying. Observation is data collection."

Gu Yichen's fingers drummed against the table impatiently.

"Data collection… for what? To manipulate me? To learn how to make me—"

"I am not manipulating you." Lu Bolin's voice was quiet but firm. "I am learning. Understanding. Experiencing. That is all."

Gu Yichen's lips pressed into a thin line. He leaned back slightly, but his gaze never wavered.

The air between them grew heavier. The tension palpable, almost electric. Gu Yichen's breathing quickened, and yet he refused to leave the table. He was locked into this game now, whether he wanted to admit it or not.

Lu Bolin returned to his notebook, writing another observation:

Villain demonstrating signs of yandere-like attachment. Emotional intensity rising faster than projected.

The system blinked rapidly.

[Warning: Villain emotional intensity approaching dangerous threshold.]

Lu Bolin looked up again, eyes meeting Gu Yichen's.

"You should know," Lu Bolin said softly, almost a whisper, "that intense observation often provokes stronger emotional responses than direct interaction."

Gu Yichen's breathing hitched slightly. His jaw tightened.

"You're saying you're in control."

"No," Lu Bolin said simply. "I am merely observing consequences."

Gu Yichen leaned forward suddenly, nearly slamming a hand on the table. His voice dropped low, almost growling.

"You are dangerous."

Lu Bolin blinked.

"Dangerous?"

"Yes," Gu Yichen hissed. "You are… something I've never encountered before. I can't predict you. I can't control you. And that… that makes me furious."

Lu Bolin's expression remained calm. He wrote in his notebook:

Villain demonstrating extreme emotional agitation. Observation continues.

The system displayed a subtle notification:

[Interest Level: 63% — rapid escalation detected.]

Lu Bolin nodded slightly.

"Fascinating."

Gu Yichen's hands clenched into fists. His dark eyes were sharp, intense, almost predatory.

"I don't like being fascinated," he said quietly. "Not by anyone. Especially not you."

Lu Bolin blinked, maintaining perfect composure.

"Then you will need to control it."

Gu Yichen leaned back in his chair, running one hand through his dark hair. The muscles along his jaw tensed. He stared at Lu Bolin, his mind swirling with a mix of irritation, curiosity, and… something more primal, more uncontrollable.

"This is… not just observation anymore, is it?" Gu Yichen said slowly.

Lu Bolin considered the question.

"No," he admitted. "This is data. But humans often mistake observation for interaction."

Gu Yichen's lips curved into a faint, dangerous smile.

"Interaction?" he repeated. "I think you enjoy this as much as I do."

Lu Bolin wrote another note in his notebook, his hand moving smoothly across the page:

Villain behavior suggests denial of attachment while displaying intense focus on Host.

The system displayed:

[Potential escalation: 70%]

Lu Bolin looked up.

"You seem… unusually interested."

Gu Yichen's gaze darkened.

"Unusually interested?" He leaned forward again, elbows on the table. "You really don't care about me, do you?"

"I care about understanding you," Lu Bolin said calmly.

Gu Yichen's lips pressed together. He exhaled slowly.

"That is worse than admitting you don't care," he muttered.

Lu Bolin tilted his head slightly, serene, unreadable.

"Explain."

Gu Yichen's eyes narrowed. He leaned closer.

"Because I know now that you could care—or not care—at will. You are untouchable. You are… beyond emotional manipulation. And yet…" He paused, voice dropping to a growl, "…you are here. Observing. Studying. Making me think about things I haven't considered in years. And I hate it. And I like it. And I—"

"Emotions rising," Lu Bolin noted softly.

Gu Yichen froze mid-sentence, realizing that Lu Bolin had perfectly described the exact feelings coursing through him.

"How…?" Gu Yichen whispered.

"Observation," Lu Bolin said simply.

Gu Yichen's eyes darkened even further. He leaned forward, hands on the table, his face only inches from Lu Bolin's.

"You are dangerous," he said again.

Lu Bolin met his gaze steadily.

"Only to those who cannot control themselves."

Gu Yichen's chest heaved slightly. His mind was a storm of emotions he had never allowed himself to feel. Anger. Curiosity. Fascination. Desire. All tightly wound together, conflicting and impossible to untangle.

And in that moment, Gu Yichen realized something he had never admitted: he was no longer in control.

Not of Lu Bolin.

Not of his own emotions.

The system appeared silently next to Lu Bolin.

[Villain emotional intensity: 76%. Risk of uncontrolled escalation detected.]

Lu Bolin made a small note in his notebook:

Observation continues. Villain engagement has surpassed predicted threshold. Interesting.

The two of them sat across from each other in silence for a long moment.

Outside, the city lights flickered, reflecting in the tall windows.

Inside, two minds were locked in a quiet battle—one calculating, observing, and recording; the other struggling with the sudden loss of control, trying to contain a storm that had been quietly brewing for years.

And for the first time, Gu Yichen understood something he had never allowed himself to admit: Lu Bolin had shifted the balance.

He was no longer chasing.

He was no longer desperate.

And that… had made all the difference.

---

The storm had begun.

The first true conflict of observation versus obsession, control versus surrender, had started.

And neither of them knew exactly where it would end.

But one thing was certain: the game had changed.

The system blinked.

[Prediction: Villain interest will continue to escalate. Probability of emotional attachment becoming yandere: 82%.]

Lu Bolin wrote one last line in his notebook before standing.

"The experiment begins."

And across the table, Gu Yichen's eyes followed him… and for the first time, he felt powerless.
