The soft hum of a magic cooling fan was the first thing I heard when I opened my eyes.
I blinked a few times, staring at the plain white cloth ceiling of the private room inside the medical tent. My chest felt a little sore. Luckily, the scary, burning heat from my magic had completely gone away. The heavy chains inside me were holding it down tight again. I had slept right through the whole match between Zara and Kieran.
"Look who finally decided to wake up," a familiar, grumpy voice said.
I turned my head on the pillow. All four of my friends were sitting in chairs squeezed right next to my small bed. Kai was leaning back with his arms crossed, looking pretty annoyed. Pearl and Des were sharing a small wooden bench, and Malachi was sitting closest to me, watching my face with quiet eyes.
"Hey," I croaked. My throat felt super dry, like sandpaper. "Did I miss the whole tournament?"
