"Amara, hey, can you hear me? Please say something if you can hear me."
Kai's voice filtered through the fog in my head, and I realized I was still on his back, the steady rhythm of his footsteps jostling me slightly as he moved. My eyes felt heavy, but I forced them open and found myself staring at the back of Kai's neck, sweat dripping down from his hairline.
"I can hear you," I mumbled, and all three of them stopped moving immediately.
"Amara!" Kai nearly dropped me in his excitement, but Malachi was there in an instant, helping to steady me as Kai carefully set me down on my feet. "You're awake! How do you feel? Are you okay? Does anything hurt?"
"I'm fine," I said, testing my legs and finding them surprisingly stable. The pain from earlier was completely gone, replaced by a warm, comfortable feeling that spread through my whole body. "What happened? How long was I out?"
