"Your Falna granted you four elements. That's more than anyone else has."
"But having more isn't an advantage. If you can't build a relationship with each one, then they're nothing more than four different noises interfering with each other."
Inside his sea of consciousness, Riveria's guidance echoed in Isis's mind.
Fire was impatient, always trying to surge outward.
Ice was slow, settling deep within his pathways.
Light was lively and restless, like a swarm of unruly fireflies.
Darkness was silent, almost impossible to perceive—yet it was everywhere.
When Isis opened his eyes, the flame at his fingertips was no longer trembling.
After the morning's training, he had finally grasped what kind of existence the elemental powers inside his body really were.
At the same time, he could not help marveling at how sharp his aunt's judgment was. She had seen at a glance the symbiotic relationship between him and the four elements.
If Isis had followed the usual line of thought and tried to dominate the elements with magic power, then he would have gone down the wrong path completely and never noticed the truth hidden within.
All it proved was that having a good teacher on the road of training could save you from countless detours.
Isis himself was living proof of that.
…
The afternoon sun bleached the streets white.
They walked down the avenue with Riveria on the left and Isis on the right, and it was then that he truly understood what it meant to attract attention.
It wasn't him who was drawing the stares.
It was his aunt.
And because he was walking beside her, he was receiving all that attention by association.
Some passing adventurers stopped to watch respectfully. Others whispered to their companions, "That's the Nine Hells."
Some even stood rooted in place, staring after them as they walked away.
Riveria's reaction to all of it was exactly zero.
Her steps never changed, her expression never shifted, and her gaze remained fixed ahead, as if the dozens of eyes boring into her were no different from air passing by.
Both Isis and Riveria were already used to this kind of attention.
Riveria suddenly spoke.
"Orario is a good place. But it's also a great dye vat."
"You'll need to judge for yourself what's worth touching, and what isn't."
She did not elaborate further. Instead, when they passed a stall selling fried potato balls, she stopped without warning and bought two portions.
Then she handed one to Isis.
He froze for a moment when he accepted it—not because of the fried snack itself, but because the sight of the Nine Hells standing at a roadside stall paying for street food clashed so strongly with the imposing aura she had just displayed under everyone's gaze that it was… strangely adorable.
"You don't need to follow Alf Forest's rules when you're outside."
Riveria bit into one of the potato balls and said expressionlessly, "If you want to eat, then eat."
This was probably the moment since arriving in Orario when Isis liked his aunt the most.
Before long, the two of them arrived at the Guild headquarters, and Riveria led Isis toward one of the staff counters.
A girl stood behind the service window.
Isis's first thought was that her ears looked a little different.
Pointed, but not pointed enough.
Longer than a human's ears, but rounder than an elf's.
Her medium-length brown hair and emerald eyes carried traces of elven blood, but the contours of her face were softer than those of a pureblood elf, as if the traits of two races had been blended together to create a beauty all her own.
A half-elf.
Isis had heard the term before in the forest, but this was the first time he had seen one with his own eyes.
"Is that Eina?"
Riveria's voice changed slightly, carrying a warmth and familiarity that made it sound like she was calling to a junior she had not seen in a long time.
The instant Eina turned around, her whole body stiffened.
Then her expression changed with incredible speed—first surprise, then flustered panic—until finally she snapped into a perfectly respectful posture with both hands pressed to the seams of her skirt.
"L-Lady Riveria!"
Seeing this, Isis suddenly found the reaction familiar.
Wasn't this basically the same way Lefiya reacted?
It seemed his aunt's destructive power against younger elves worked across racial lines too.
"So it really is you, child. It's only been a while, and you've grown even prettier."
Riveria greeted her softly, the corners of her lips gentle.
Eina hurriedly thanked her. "Th-thank you, milady! Your praise honors me beyond words…"
Then Riveria's brows drew together just slightly.
Isis noticed that tiny frown.
He knew what it meant.
It meant: You've done something wrong.
And the way Miss Eina had spoken just now was one of the formal, elevated greetings commonly used among elves.
Sure enough, Riveria spoke.
Her tone was still gentle, but beneath it was something that left no room for argument.
"Don't speak like that. This isn't the elven homeland, and more importantly, you aren't an elf born in the forest. There's no need for you to be so excessively deferential to me."
Eina lowered her head awkwardly and murmured, "B-but my mother told me that when facing those of noble standing, one must never forget the proper respect…"
Riveria let out a soft sigh.
"To think that even Aina, of all people, taught her daughter something like that. How tragic. We were the ones who ran away from the village together."
The sigh was light, but Isis heard something strange in it.
It wasn't anger.
It was heartache.
Heartache that a half-elf girl, after living in this world for over a decade, still instinctively believed she ought to bow low before elven royalty.
And that instinct was not her fault.
It was something the world had taught her.
At that moment, Isis suddenly understood why his aunt hated the rules of Alf Forest so much.
"I'm not telling you to abandon good manners."
Riveria softened her tone.
"I only mean: don't be so tense. When you're with me, just act as you normally would."
Eina hesitated for a moment, then nodded. She still looked a little uneasy, but her shoulders relaxed more than before.
Riveria looked satisfied. Then, very naturally, she shifted to the side and guided Isis forward.
"Let me introduce you. This is Isis, my nephew and the newest member of our Familia. We've come today to register him as an adventurer."
"Eina is a few years older than you, so you can just call her big sister. Since she works at the Guild, if there's anything you don't understand later, you can ask her."
"Hello, Sister Eina. My name is Isis."
Taking the cue, Isis stretched out a hand and greeted her with a bright smile.
"Eh? Y-yes… hello, Isis."
The moment Eina learned that Isis was actually Lady Riveria's nephew, she could not help but feel startled.
She instinctively gave him a closer look.
He really did resemble Riveria in a few ways.
And that noble bearing unique to elven royalty was impossible to fake.
Poised and elegant, yet not lacking warmth or brightness.
Still, she did not forget her job. She quickly took out a parchment form and a quill and handed them to him.
"Just fill in the relevant information here."
Isis accepted the pen and dipped it in ink.
But the moment the nib touched the parchment, he paused.
The name field.
Back in Alf Forest, his full name was Isis Ljos Alf.
Ljos was his mother's family name. Alf was the royal designation.
That name signified whose son he was, which forest he belonged to, and where he stood within the royal lineage.
He paused for two seconds.
Then he wrote.
Isis.
No Ljos. No Alf.
Just Isis.
Riveria stood behind him and saw the name he had written.
She said nothing.
But for just an instant, the corner of her lips lifted.
Because many years ago, when a young elf girl had walked out of Alf Forest, she had done the exact same thing.
On the adventurer registration ledger, the name she had written was:
Riveria.
No Ljos. No Alf.
Only herself.
After filling out the rest of the form, Isis blew lightly on the ink to dry it and handed the parchment back to Eina.
Familia: Loki Familia
Age: 12
Place of Origin: Alf Forest
Eina checked it over once, then stamped the bottom with the Guild's red seal.
"Registration complete. Welcome to Orario as an adventurer, Isis."
When she said it, she wore the professional smile of a Guild employee. She had probably spoken the same words to every newly registered adventurer before him.
…
When they stepped out of the Guild building, the sun was already sinking beyond the city walls.
Riveria walked ahead, with Isis following half a step behind.
"Auntie."
"Yes?"
"When I wrote my name just now… I only wrote 'Isis.'"
Riveria's steps did not slow.
"I saw."
"Do you think that means I'm disrespecting Mother's name… and the royal house?"
Riveria turned her head.
The setting sun spread out behind her, gilding her emerald hair with a golden rim of light.
She looked into Isis's eyes—those eyes so similar to her sister's, now carrying a trace of uncertainty.
"No."
"Because you weren't writing down where you came from."
"You were writing down who you intend to become."
Isis froze.
Then he smiled.
He had not expected his aunt to understand him so completely.
Riveria turned forward again and continued walking.
The sunset was heavy, the evening wind light.
And the boy walking behind her carried himself with steadier steps than before.
