Chapter 61 – The First Journey
For a long moment, nobody answered.
Not because they were afraid.
Because none of them had ever been asked a question like that.
"Who's coming with me?"

Kai smiled as he looked at everyone.
"Take your time."
"We're not in a hurry anymore."
The First Thing watched quietly, tiny stars floating around it like fireflies.
"I want to go," it said.
Kai laughed.
"I know you do."
"But not yet."
The First Thing looked disappointed.
"Why?"
"Because you're still growing."
"If you leave now, all of existence will accidentally follow you."
"Oh..."
The First Thing scratched its head awkwardly.
"I forgot about that."
Everyone laughed.
Even the Eye made a faint sound that almost resembled a chuckle.
Evetyl couldn't remember the last time she had laughed this much.
It felt... normal.
Peaceful.
Kai rolled up the strange map.
"Well?"
The Warden looked at its heavy chains.
"I've never left my post."
Kai smiled.
"Then maybe it's time."
The Warden slowly unclipped one chain from its arm.
For the first time, it wasn't carrying chains because it had to.
It chose to keep only one.
"A reminder," the Warden said quietly.
Kai nodded.
"Good choice."
The Outer King stepped forward next.
Its golden crown floated above its head.
For several seconds, it stared at it.
Then...
It gently placed the crown on an empty stone.
"I won't need this for a while."
The moment the crown left its head, the King's appearance changed.
The heavy royal robes disappeared.
They became simple traveling clothes.
He looked... younger.
Lighter.
The First Anomaly stared.
"I didn't know you could look normal."
The former King smiled.
"I didn't either."
Cr-Hook twirled its repaired hook once before resting it across its shoulder.
"If everyone is going..."
"I suppose I'll come too."
The Warden looked at the demon.
"Promise not to curse every village we visit."
Cr-Hook sighed dramatically.
"No promises."
Everyone laughed again.
The Eye remained floating silently.
Kai looked up.
"What about you?"
The Eye answered after a long pause.
"I have always watched."
"Perhaps..."
"I should finally see."
Its giant form shrank.
Smaller.
Smaller.
Until it became a glowing blue orb the size of a basketball.
It floated beside Kai happily.
"This form is... convenient."
Kai gave it a thumbs-up.
"Much easier to travel with."
The First Thought remained where it stood.
Evetyl walked over.
"Aren't you coming?"
"I calculate no necessity."
She smiled.
"There doesn't have to be one."
The First Thought was silent.
Its countless calculations stopped.
Then, for the first time in its existence...
It made a decision without calculating the outcome.
"I would like..."
It paused.
"...to experience uncertainty."
Kai grinned.
"Now you're getting it."
The Forgotten One watched everyone with a peaceful smile.
"You've all changed."
"No," Kai corrected gently.
"You've all started living."
The First Thing looked at them.
"Will you come back?"
Evetyl walked over and gently placed the white flower beside it.
"We'll always come back."
The First Thing smiled.
"I'll be waiting."
"And dreaming."
Kai opened the strange map again.
A glowing path appeared across it.
"This road doesn't have a name yet."
"Why?" the Eye asked.
Kai folded the map.
"Because we're the first people to walk it."
The group stood together.
Evetyl.
Kai.
The former Outer King.
The Warden.
Cr-Hook.
The Eye.
The First Thought.
The Forgotten One.
The First Anomaly.
Nine travelers.
Not heroes.
Not rulers.
Not monsters.
Just friends beginning a journey.
Kai looked toward the endless horizon where countless unexplored worlds shimmered like stars.
He smiled.
"Ready?"
Everyone nodded.
Kai took the first step.
The others followed.
Behind them, the First Thing watched with a peaceful smile.
Above it, billions of tiny dream-stars lit up the endless darkness.
For the first time since before creation...
It was no longer waiting for someone to return.
It knew they would.
