Chapter 5 - Scene: Service Club – Pendant Revealed

The Service Club room was unusually quiet that afternoon. Yui Yuigahama was perched on the edge of the table, idly twirling a pen, while Yukino Yukinoshita organized some papers with her usual sharp efficiency. Hachiman sat across from them, calm, collected, his usual cynical expression softened by a faint smirk.

Shizuka Hiratsuka-sensei had come to drop off some documents, and as she reached into her bag, the pendant around her neck caught the light—a deep, lustrous black gleaming subtly, unlike any jewelry Yui or Yukino had seen before.

Yui's eyes went wide. "Sensei… what's that?" she asked, pointing, cheeks flushed. "It's… really… pretty!"

Yukino, adjusting her glasses, leaned closer, curiosity piqued. "Yes… it's… unusual. The material, the shine… it's not something you see every day. Where did you get it?"

Shizuka froze, her hand brushing the pendant instinctively. Her cheeks burned red. "I-I… it's… nothing, really…" she stammered, trying to downplay it, but failing spectacularly.

Hachiman, sitting nearby, caught the exchange and smirked. His eyes gleamed with amusement and subtle mischief. "Oh? I'm… curious now. Where did you get that, sensei?" His tone was teasing, slow, deliberate, making her blush deepen even further.

Shizuka fumbled, lowering her gaze. "I-It's… uh… just something I… picked up…"

Hachiman tilted his head slightly, voice dropping to a soft, teasing whisper that carried just enough intensity and confidence to make her pulse quicken. "Picked up, huh? Sounds… mysterious. Really makes one wonder… who gave it to you. Someone special, perhaps?"

Yui giggled nervously, covering her mouth, while Yukino's sharp eyes narrowed, clearly analyzing the dynamics but unable to hide her curiosity.

Shizuka's hands fumbled at the pendant again, voice shaky. "I… it's… nothing you need to worry about…"

"Nothing to worry about?" Hachiman echoed, leaning forward just slightly, letting the teasing linger. "Hmm… I don't know. Makes me very curious. I suppose some mysteries are… best explained directly."

Shizuka's blush intensified, and she glanced at the two students, mortified that they had witnessed this playful interrogation.

Hachiman smirked inwardly, enjoying the effect. He wasn't cruel—just confident, bold, and deliberately teasing. "I suppose we'll just have to find out… sensei."

Yui whispered to Yukino, her voice a mix of awe and exasperation, "He… he's really doing it, isn't he? He's… teasing her so much!"

Yukino, adjusting her posture, muttered almost to herself, "Hachiman… his presence… it's… different now. Stronger… more commanding. And yet… playful in a way I can't ignore."

Shizuka, finally giving in slightly, managed a small, flustered smile, hiding her hands behind her bag. "H-Hachiman… you're impossible!"

Hachiman's smirk widened, leaning back casually. "Impossible? Maybe. But… you look good flustered. Makes me wonder… just how much more I can make you blush."

The room filled with an awkward, playful tension—Yui's small giggles, Yukino's sharp but intrigued gaze, Shizuka's flustered stammering, and Hachiman's calm, confident teasing aura. All subtle, all in modern AU, yet charged with the new boldness and presence Hachiman carried after merging with Xebec's memories.
