Sairis's POV
One step landed wrong and Sairis's knee went soft and the ground came up toward him fast and then did not reach him because something caught him from behind.
Two hands. Firm and quick, under his arms, pulling him back up before he reached the ground.
Sairis had not heard the second man move.
He was breathing hard. He put his hands on his waist and bent forward slightly and focused on not falling again.
"Steady," the man behind him said. His voice was different from the first one. Younger.
"I am fine," Sairis said.
"You nearly went down," the young man said.
"I noticed," Sairis said.
The first man and driver had stopped walking and turned back. He looked at Sairis and then at the younger man and then back at Sairis with an expression that had moved out of blank professionalism and into something more genuinely troubled.
"Is it the child?" he asked.
