Chapter 69 - No clear cure

Loreen's POV

Ardent hesitated, then nodded once. "It may."

Silence settled for a brief moment.

"So what do we do?" Loreen asked. "How do we slow this down or stop it?"

Ardent leaned back slightly, his expression thoughtful. "There is no clear cure," he said. "If there were, I would already be using it."

Loreen's shoulders stiffened slightly at that.

"But there are ways to manage it," Ardent added quickly. "To ease his pain. To calm his body and mind."

He gestured lightly to the book. "There are tonics I can prepare. Mixtures to help steady his breathing, reduce the strain on his body, and keep his mind from becoming too unsettled."

Loreen gave him a look. "The same tonics you try to pass off as tea?" he said.

Ardent allowed a small smile. "Those have their uses." He mumbled.

Loreen shook his head faintly but did not argue.

"Beyond that," Ardent continued, "he will need patience. From everyone around him. He may not be himself at times. You must remember that."
