158| Voice trauma
Neo found it completely strange. He opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. He cleared his throat and tried again, but nothing.
What the hell?
"Don't try anymore. It's voice trauma," Armin explained, pouring water into a glass and handing it to Neo to drink.
With slight hesitation, Neo accepted the water and drank it. He tried to speak again. An incoherent sound came out of his mouth this time around.
He was getting there. What voice trauma?
Before he could try again, he received a seriously threatening look from Armin that made him decide to try again.
Armin picked something up from the bed stand and handed it to Neo.
"Put this on for now. You can take it off later when it doesn't hurt to speak."
It was a black accessory that was meant to replace his vocal cords to help his speech. It was something Neo had seen mute people use before.
He placed it on his throat reluctantly and it almost merged with his skin to look like a polished gemstone.
