Chapter 9 - first morning after

Morning came gently.

Too gently for a heart that hadn't rested at all.

Sunlight slipped through the curtains, landing softly across the bed—

Across two people who had somehow ended up closer than intended.

Su Yan woke first.

And froze.

…Why is he so close?

Her breath caught.

His arm was still loosely around her, as if it had naturally settled there during the night.

Not tight.

Not careless.

Just… comfortable.

Her face burned instantly.

Did I move closer…?

She slowly, carefully tried to shift away—

"…You're awake."

She stopped.

Completely.

"…!"

Her entire body stiffened as his calm voice reached her from right behind.

Too close.

Way too close.

"…G-Good morning…"

Her voice came out small, almost broken.

"…Mm."

A pause.

"…You moved a lot in your sleep."

Silence.

Then—

"YOU were the one holding me!!"

She turned instantly, pointing at him with full accusation, her face completely red.

"…I don't think so."

Deadpan.

Unbothered.

Unfair.

"THIS MAN IS LYING!!"

Her inner voice screamed louder than reality as she buried half her face into the blanket.

Another pause.

Their eyes met again.

Just for a second.

Then both of them looked away at the exact same time.

"…This is troublesome."

He said it quietly.

"…Very."

She agreed, hugging the blanket tighter.

Silence returned.

But it felt different now.

Lighter.

Warmer.

Then—

He stood up.

"…I'll make breakfast."

She blinked, still flustered, still processing everything—

But somehow…

"…Okay."

Her answer came softer this time.

With the smallest hint of a smile.

And just like that—

Their first morning together began.

Not perfect.

Not smooth.

But real.
