Chapter 9: A Perfect Day Starts with Shizuka-chan's Wake-Up Call!

The next morning.

After logging out in the early hours of the morning, Seito had collapsed onto his bed and passed out instantly. Now, the sun was high in the sky, filtering through the window and draping a golden veil across his sheets. He was sleeping like the dead, with absolutely no intention of rejoining the land of the living.

Suddenly...

"Sasageyo~ Sasageyo~ Shinzou wo Sasageyo~"

His phone blared a familiar anthem, forcing Seito to knit his brows in annoyance. He pried one eye open, but the world was a hazy, unfocused blur. After a few moments of mental recalibration, he fumbled for his phone and swiped the screen.

"Moshi moshi... what is it?" he mumbled, his voice thick with sleep as he sank back into his pillow.

"YOU BRAT!! Are you still in bed?!"

A woman's roar exploded from the speaker, nearly blowing out his eardrum.

"Isn't that obvious? Make it quick, I'm trying to get back to sleep," Seito yawned, his eyelids fluttering as he fought to drift off again.

"HAH?!"

The shock in the woman's voice finally registered. Seito froze. That voice... Shizuka-chan? He bolted upright as the realization hit him. He had overslept. Way, way overlept. A quick glance at the clock confirmed it: 9:00 AM.

Thinking fast, he let his voice go raspy and weak. "Cough... cough... Sensei, I think I've come down with something. I need to take a sick day."

"A sick day?" Shizuka Hiratsuka's voice dropped to a dangerously low octave. He could almost hear her knuckles cracking through the line. "I'm giving you twenty minutes to get to school. If you aren't here... I will personally hunt you down."

Click.

Seito hung up before she could finish her threat and scrambled out of bed. He had seen her "fists of love" in action; he knew better than to test her patience when she was in "Demon Teacher" mode.

After a lightning-fast shower, he looked at the reflection in the mirror—silver hair, deep blue eyes, and the face of a top-tier bishonen. He couldn't help but smirk.

"Damn, I'm good-looking."

He threw on his Sobu High uniform, grabbed a piece of toast from the fridge, and bolted out the door. Along the way, he spotted a breakfast stall still open and decided to grab two meat buns for the road. Elegance requires proper nutrition, he reasoned.

By the time he strolled through the gates of Sobu High, thirty minutes had passed since the call. He was late, and he knew a punch was waiting for him. But as a certain wise man (or at least Seito's version of him) once said: True elegance can solve any problem.

Inside the classroom, Sae Chabashira was busy writing on the chalkboard, her back turned to the students. The back door was wide open. It was a golden opportunity.

Seito crouched low and crept inside, moving with the stealth of a ninja. He slipped behind Hachiman Hikigaya, who was slumped in his seat.

"You..." Hachiman felt a presence and turned around. His dead-fish eyes widened for a second before he sighed and went back to his notes, deciding it wasn't his problem.

"Weirdo," Seito whispered, before darting behind Yui Yuigahama. The "nice girl" of the class stiffened but didn't say a word. Finally, with a perfectly timed "Dimensional Leap" (purely physical, of course), he slid into his seat and whipped out a textbook.

"Exquisite. Pure elegance," he whispered to himself.

"Elegance, you say?" a familiar, icy voice asked from right beside him.

"Exactly! True ele—" Seito froze. He slowly turned his head to see Shizuka Hiratsuka standing in the aisle, a terrifyingly sweet smile on her face.

The entire class turned to watch. Even Sae Chabashira stopped writing and looked over.

Seito didn't panic. He adjusted his posture and smiled. "Ah, Sensei. You look exceptionally beautiful today."

"I thought so too," Shizuka smiled. Then, she wound up her right fist and delivered a thunderous blow to the top of his head.

BAM!

Seito, already exhausted from the previous night's grind, saw stars. His vision went dark, and he slumped onto his desk, unconscious. The rest of the class shivered in unison, their respect for Hiratsuka-sensei's combat power reaching new heights.

Shizuka grabbed Seito by the collar and looked at Chabashira-sensei. "Carry on with the lesson. I'm taking this one to the office."

....

Lunchtime.

Seito sat at his desk, nursing a sore head and sighing. His time in the staff room had been... educational. He realized that while Shizuka was easy to tease, he'd never win a physical fight with her. He needed to hit the gym.

He looked around and realized he had another problem. In his rush to leave, he had forgotten his lunch, his phone, and his wallet.

He turned around slowly to face Kaguya Shinomiya, who was elegantly enjoying a gourmet lunch box.

"Can I help you?" Kaguya asked, her voice cold as ice.

"Shinomiya-san, as classmates, we should understand the virtue of sharing," Seito said with a straight face.

"Heh. No." Kaguya didn't even look up as she took a bite of a perfectly glazed piece of salmon.

Seito didn't miss a beat. He stood up, brandishing a pair of disposable chopsticks he'd scavenged from his desk.

"Hey, Kirito, that looks delicious. Let me try a bit. Hmm, not bad, but the seasoning is a bit off."

"Hikigaya, is that a handmade rice ball? I'll take one."

"Hideyoshi, that fried shrimp looks fantastic. Let me verify the quality for you... Delicious!"

"Yukino, don't glare at me like that. We went to middle school together, let me have a bell pepper."

"Eriri, we were classmates too! One rib won't kill you. Stop looking like you want to murder me."

"Totsuka, my little angel, this Salisbury steak needs a tiny bit more salt. Here, let me finish it for you."

By the time he circled back to his seat, Seito had effectively scavenged a full multi-course meal from the elite of Sobu High.
