Chapter 9 - Information Compilation × Discovery

Ivan didn't linger in Anbo District.

Instead, he headed straight toward Yalan Street.

No. 162 Yalan Street—that was his destination.

It belonged to his father Lyman's close friend and former superior, Corea Bartro, the current Chief Justice of Kakin's Supreme Court.

However, according to Ivan's memories, his father and Chief Justice Corea hadn't met privately for quite some time.

Part of the reason was their busy schedules.

The other reason was to avoid suspicion.

One of the cases Lyman had previously presided over involved a hotel owned by Kakin's Fourth Prince, Tserriednich.

The person who filed the report was a wealthy Kakin businessman.

The missing person was his daughter.

But in Kakin, any case involving the royal family could not be handled by an ordinary judge from the Judicial Bureau.

Such matters had to be transferred to the Supreme Court.

So before the case concluded, Lyman and Corea deliberately avoided meeting each other privately.

Of course, Ivan knew that was only on the surface.

Behind the scenes, the two of them had probably spoken on the phone countless times.

Ivan even remembered hearing his father shouting angrily in his study once.

The reason was that Corea had told him to stop interfering in the case, warning that it would only bring him trouble.

Ivan had considered the possibility that the information his father possessed might be related to the Fourth Prince.

Having read the manga, he knew a little about Tserriednich's hobbies.

The filthy things happening inside that hotel had been shown clearly in the story.

If the businessman's daughter truly disappeared in the Fourth Prince's hotel…

Then there was only one possible outcome.

Death.

If Lyman had really been investigating the Fourth Prince, then logically the forces involved should have been the Ai-Ai Family.

After all, that mafia family operated under the protection of the Fourth Prince.

Yet the people who kidnapped Ivan were from the Xi-Yu Family.

And the ones intercepting his father's movements were from the Kasha Family.

Even the Phantom Troupe had become involved.

Of course, it was possible the Ai-Ai Family had also taken part somewhere behind the scenes.

But the scale of the situation clearly exceeded the influence of the Fourth Prince alone.

Which meant there had to be something else at play.

Ivan believed that if he wanted to uncover the truth, the best way would be to find the documents that disappeared along with his father's death.

He refused to believe that someone as meticulous as Lyman would leave no clues behind.

Especially considering that Lyman had personally arranged his son's resurrection.

Given how well Lyman understood his son, he must have known that a revived Ivan would never choose to live quietly in hiding.

Still, Ivan couldn't yet figure out where such a clue might be hidden.

162 Yalan Street was a three-story villa with a garden.

Ivan didn't enter through the front gate.

Doing so might cause unnecessary trouble for Corea if someone noticed.

As evening darkened the sky, Ivan found a section of the wall without surveillance, climbed over it, and dropped silently into the courtyard.

The villa was completely dark.

Most likely Corea had been delayed by work and hadn't returned home yet.

Ivan pried open a window and slipped inside.

The interior wasn't unfamiliar to him.

He had visited this house as a child.

Although Corea looked young, he was already well over forty.

Because he was a Nen user—and thanks to good genetics—he had maintained a youthful appearance.

Sometimes, when seen from certain angles, he even looked like an elegant lady.

There were no servants inside the villa.

That was probably Corea's habit.

After all, the matters he dealt with were closely tied to the Kakin royal family.

If even the slightest secret leaked, Corea might survive—

But the person who overheard it would almost certainly die.

Ivan sat down in the living room.

He took out bread and water, eating while waiting for Corea to return.

The death-Nen surrounding him still flared conspicuously.

No matter how hard Ivan tried to control it, the aura wouldn't budge.

It gave him a headache.

When he transformed using Scary Monsters, his dinosaur form granted decent physical enhancement.

But compared to proper Nen techniques used for defense, the boost was still lacking.

Like when he fought Pat earlier that day.

Pat had better mastery of Nen techniques.

If Pat's aura defense had been slightly stronger, Ivan's tail strike might not have broken through at all.

Without causing damage, the infection effect of Scary Monsters would never have activated.

In that scenario, Ivan's only option would probably have been running away.

Of course, he still had some confidence in his ability to escape.

Meanwhile—

At the abandoned warehouse rooftop where Ivan had resurrected earlier, five people had gathered.

"The corpse disappeared. The scattered flesh from the explosion also vanished. There are footprints leading downstairs, and signs of a fight below. Judging by the prints, they match the dinosaur tracks the mafia reported."

The man analyzing the scene crouched near the staircase.

He wore a bathrobe with shorts.

White cloth strips were wrapped around his abdomen and ankles.

His face carried rough stubble he hadn't bothered shaving.

And his hair was styled into something resembling a palm tree, held up by a peculiar hair accessory.

He was Nobunaga, one of the Phantom Troupe's combat specialists.

Standing beside him was another massive figure.

Over two and a half meters tall, with spiky hair and a powerful build.

Another combat member of the Troupe—

Uvogin.

"Can we confirm who it was?" Uvogin asked impatiently.

"Or find them?"

He didn't care much about what had happened here.

What interested him was only one thing.

"How strong are these dinosaurs?"

"Dinosaurs are pretty rare, right? The pictures in books make them look strong."

"From the footprints downstairs and the dinosaurs fighting the mafia," Nobunaga replied calmly, "their size seems to match the creatures they were transformed from."

"So they probably aren't that strong."

Uvogin snorted.

"That's still fine. Could be fun to play with."

He bared a row of cold white teeth, clearly excited.

"It seems Lyman tricked us," said Chrollo, the Phantom Troupe's leader, finally speaking after remaining silent.

He stood exactly where Ivan had resurrected earlier.

The blood on the ground had long since dried, but the marks clearly showed that someone had stood up from that spot.

Chrollo remembered very clearly.

The man who had died here had been killed by his own hand.

"A life for a life," Pakunoda said thoughtfully.

"He must have planted something on his son beforehand. Otherwise, it wouldn't be possible to resurrect after death like this."

"Probably a Specialist ability."

"Unfortunately, we never managed to touch him, and we couldn't extract any useful information from Ivan either."

"It's an ability with a lot of possibilities," Chrollo murmured.

"A pity."

"But what we still can't determine is whether the one who resurrected and escaped was truly Ivan…"

"Or Lyman wearing Ivan's skin."

"Either way, we should find him."

"There may still be an opportunity."

He paused slightly.

"Fortunately, while waiting for Uvogin and Nobunaga earlier, we discovered those interesting little dinosaurs."

"Otherwise, we might not have learned about the resurrection for several more days."

At that moment, the sound of tires screeching echoed from below.

The mafia had finally followed the trail back to the abandoned warehouse.

Uvogin grinned viciously.

"Should we deal with them?"

His hands itched for a fight.

Chrollo waved dismissively.

"No."

"There's no need to clash with the Kakin mafia right now."

"They still have their uses."
