Chapter 35 - Cricket and curses

Aio was using her six eyes to its extreme.

"The eye is some 2 miles away in a half damaged building" she said "Bad news too, hordes of curses from all directions are also heading towards it"

The curses were attracted to the immense curse energy that had sprouted suddenly from the blue. Never have they seen so much curse energy concentrated in one singular region since the Shinjuku showdown. And now there was a race to get that fable energy source.

Megumi, Aio, Hami, Dabura and Sanso ran towards the location jumping and passing by massive roubles. Aio was maintaining her six eyes activated to keep a constant watch. Megumi had forbidden anyone from going alone. Curses were hungrier than ever before and who knows what type of monster may be hiding behind the buildings.

And they soon found their first strong curse. A pack of human size grasshopper curses blocked their path. Megumi was slowly bringing his hands closer to make a sign. Sensing an increase in curse energy, the hoppers leap to attack Megumi. But the Divine dogs got them by their throat and mutilated them to pieces. The third hopper backed a few steps and quickly emitted a high frequency call.

Burrowing through the ground five hoppers appeared, while three came hopping from somewhere else.

Sanso, Dabura and Megumi readied themselves. Megumi summoned great serpent to immobilize and crush the hopper in its coil. Dabura created a light energy pole, and skillfully moved it around injuring and burning the incoming hoppers. Sanso unleashed a long range piercing blood that curved through the battlefield, skewing multiple curses at once.

But the swarms of hoppers were never ending. In the heat of the battle. The three sorcerers had drifted a bit farther, leaving the two girls on their own. Though they were unaware of any danger, Aio was constantly maintaining her six eyes to keep a watch over the vicinity and on the location of Gojo's eye. She quickly sense a hopper burrowing from behind Hami.

"Hami behind you" she cried to her.

Hami turned to face the curse but when she turned around another hopper leaped from behind her. Two hoppers were now upon her. She closed her eyes and stretched her arms against one hopper, as if in fright.

Just when the hopper was about to grab her, the other hopper gave him a powerful punch that severed his head from it's body. The hopper didn't stop there but started to kill and tear any other hopper who came too close to it.

Hami looked at Aio and gave a faint smile, for the hopper was under Soul binding.

[Soul binding a possession move that allows the user to gain temporary control over the body of another being. The user can make the controlled being move and do as he/she sees fit. But the degree of control depends upon the experience of the user and the mental strength of the opponent]

Her technique was waning off. She was left with little curse energy. The hopper was resisting her control more and more. At last it stopped all together and started slowly turning towards her. Hami tried her best to take control but the hopper had already got too close. Frighten that see was done for, she cried out.

Fortunately Megumi had finished the hopper just at the neck of time. His soul slashing katana pierced through the abdomen and with an upward swing the guts and blood flew everywhere. Hami looked at Megumi as if to say thanks for saving her life.

The group quickly gathered together into a circle. The hoppers had surrounded them though their number had thinned down they were still daring to attack. Suddenly they stopped on their tracks. Their antenna wriggles right and left as if picking some insensible force in the air. When their antenna stops moving, their bodies stiffen and a sense of dread could be seen in their movement. In a desperate hurry they skittered far away to where they had come from.

The group was stupified, but soon the reason surfaced. Just where they were standing an enormous grade 1 crab curse was sleeping underneath. Sensing the sudden rise in curse energy, it woke from its slumber and was not pleased to be stepped upon.
