Chapter 13: The Two Faces of the Mist

The following morning, the Academy's training grounds were packed. The news of the "Dungeon Liberation" had spread, but it was the arrival of the two transfer students—Lira of the Star-Sect and Kahn of the Beast-Tribes—that held everyone's breath. They didn't wear the standard Academy uniforms; they wore garments of living silk and rough, mana-reactive furs.

The First Class: Outer-Land Breeding

Master Silas stood between the newcomers and the restless students. "Today, we move beyond Earth's logic. Lira, Kahn, the floor is yours."

Lira stepped forward, her silver hair shimmering. She didn't call a pet from a capsule. She simply hummed a low, harmonic frequency. From the very light of the morning sun, a Solar-Wisp coalesced—a creature of pure photons and heat.

"In the Outer Lands," Lira explained, her voice echoing in the students' minds, "we do not 'breed' through biology alone. We breed through Celestial Alignment. A pet is not a beast; it is a localized manifestation of the universe's laws."

She touched the Wisp, and it transformed into a crystalline bird. "If your soul is out of sync with the stars, the bird shatters. This is the Star-Sect's Law."

Then Kahn stepped up. He slammed his fist into the earth, and a Mountain-Ursa rose from the soil, its fur made of jagged granite. "Alignment is for the weak," Kahn growled. "In the Tribes, we breed through Ancestral Blood-Debt. You don't ask a beast to help you. You prove you are worthy of its lineage."

The students were stunned. Their "Bonding" felt like a polite conversation compared to the raw, cosmic power these two displayed. Leo's Eye of Truth flickered. He saw that their mana didn't flow in loops like Earth's; it flowed in Infinite Spirals, drawing power from somewhere far beyond the atmosphere.

The Secret Meeting: The Truth of the Wall

That night, the moon was obscured by a thick, unnatural fog. Leo, shrouded in Nova's Spatial Veil, followed a faint mana-trail to Master Silas's private observatory at the highest point of the Academy.

Inside, he found Silas sitting at a stone table with Lira and Kahn. The atmosphere was heavy, the air smelling of ancient wood and ozone.

"The seal is 90% gone, Silas," Lira was saying, her glow dimmed to a somber blue. "The Mist-Wall isn't just a barrier anymore. It's a funeral shroud. The things that were trapped on the other side... they've evolved. They've become Void-Eaters."

"And the Heart?" Kahn asked, his tattoos glowing an angry red. "Is the boy ready? Or is he just another 'Sovereign' name for the Maw to swallow?"

"He is more than a name," Silas replied, his voice steady. "He has already renounced the System. He is the first Independent Sovereign."

Leo stepped out of the shadows, his Eye of Truth burning gold, piercing through the room's defensive wards. "If you want to know if I'm ready, ask me yourself. Don't talk about me like I'm a specimen in a jar."

The Revelation of the Great Migration

Lira and Kahn didn't look surprised. They looked relieved.

"Leo Heart," Lira said, standing up. "The 'Great Merger' didn't stop 10,000 years ago because your ancestor won. It stopped because the Earth was Quarantined. We are the descendants of the people who stayed outside to guard the gate."

Kahn pointed toward the North. "The Mist-Wall is falling because the Fourth Fragment—the 'Engine of the Wall'—has been corrupted. The 'Great Migration' isn't just monsters coming in. it's the Outer Lands themselves colliding with Earth."

"If you don't reclaim the Fourth Fragment," Lira added, "the two worlds will merge improperly. Earth will be crushed by the weight of the Outer Lands' gravity. Everything you know will be flattened into stardust."

The Pact of the Vanguard

Leo looked at the wooden token in his hand. Using the Memory Mirror, he saw a flicker of the Fourth Fragment's location. It wasn't in a dungeon. It was embedded in the Heart of the World-Tree, located at the center of the Mist-Wall.

"We leave in three days," Leo said, his voice echoing with the Sovereign's Link. "Sam and Marcus are coming. And if you two really are the 'Bridge,' then you're leading the way."

Kahn grinned, showing sharp, beast-like teeth. "Finally. A Sovereign with some spine."

"Three days," Silas whispered, looking at the stars. "The Second Year has officially become a war for survival."

[The Sovereign's Stone pulses with a deep, urgent red.]
