Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: The Century Sleep

One hundred years is a long time for a human, but for a computer, it is only a series of moments.

Inside the Moon-Drive, time did not work the same way it did on Earth. There were no seasons, no aging, and no hunger. The ten billion souls of humanity lived in a world of sapphire crystals and digital light. It was a perfect paradise, but it was a paradise behind a locked door.

Silas sat on a hill made of glowing blue glass. He looked up at the "sky"—the inner shell of the moon. He could see the data-streams flowing like rivers of stars. In this world, he was a legend. He was the First Officer, the man who had stabilized the lunar connection when the world ended.

But Silas was tired of being a legend. He wanted to feel the wind on his face again—real wind, not a simulated breeze created by the Lunar OS.

"You're thinking about the 'Down-There' again, aren't you?" a voice asked.

Silas turned. It was Renny Razor. In the digital world, she looked exactly as she did a century ago—neon-pink hair, sharp eyes, and a confident smile. But there was a heaviness in her gaze. She had spent a hundred years recording the history of a people who had no future.

"It's been a century, Renny," Silas said. "The Audit-Pyramid should be dormant by now. The Earth has had enough time to 'Reboot.' We can't stay in this backup folder forever."

"Arthur thinks it's dangerous," Renny replied, sitting next to him. "He says the 'Hardware' of Earth is still unstable. The Architects might still be watching."

The Command from the OS

Suddenly, the sapphire forest around them began to pulse with a familiar, emerald light. The ground vibrated with a deep hum.

[ ATTENTION, SECT_LEADERS. ]

The voice of Arthur Vance filled the air. He was no longer just a man; he was the spirit of the Moon. He was the air they breathed and the ground they walked on.

Silas stood up instantly. His heart—a digital simulation of a human heart—beat faster. "Are we going down in our original forms?"

[ NO, ] Arthur replied. [ THE_ATMOSPHERE_IS_STILL_TOXIC_TO_BIOLOGICAL_LIFE. YOU_WILL_USE_ 'AVATAR_BODIES'. ]

A holographic window appeared in front of them. It showed two sleek, metallic suits. They were made of Liquid-Chrome and Aether-Carbon. They were strong, fast, and could "Sync" with the Bit-Cloud from thousands of miles away.

The Departure

The "Transporter" was a massive sapphire platform at the center of the Lunar Core. Thousands of people gathered to watch. They didn't cheer; they stood in a respectful silence. For them, Silas and Renny were like the first explorers sailing across a dark ocean.

Silas stepped into the suit. It felt cold at first, then warm as his consciousness merged with the machine. He felt powerful. His sensors could see heat, electricity, and even the "Qi" of the environment.

Renny stepped into her own suit. She carried a new version of her broadcast deck—a tool that could now "Rewrite" small parts of the physical world.

"Ready to see what the Architects did to our home?" Renny asked.

"I'm ready to take it back," Silas said.

The sapphire platform turned into a beam of light. In an instant, Silas and Renny were no longer in the Moon. They were falling through the black vacuum of space, protected by a shield of emerald energy.

The New Earth

The descent was violent. The Earth's atmosphere was thick with gray clouds and static electricity. The "Audit" had changed the weather. Lightning bolts as thick as buildings struck their shields, but the Avatar-suits absorbed the energy, turning the "Attack" into "Fuel."

"We're through the clouds!" Renny shouted over the roar of the wind.

Silas looked down, and his sensors froze for a second.

New York was gone. The "New-York-Binary" Spire was a broken skeleton of rusted metal. But it wasn't a wasteland.

The Earth was Green.

Massive, glowing vines the size of subway trains wrapped around the ruins of the skyscrapers. Trees with silver leaves grew from the cracked pavement. The water in the harbor was a bright, glowing purple. It looked like a garden, but a garden designed by a computer.

"It's a 'Logic-Forest'," Silas whispered as they landed in the middle of what used to be Times Square.

The ground was soft, covered in a moss that pulsed with a faint white light. There was no sound of birds or insects. The only sound was a low, electric hum—the sound of the Earth "Thinking."

The First Encounter

"I don't like this," Renny said, her suit's sensors scanning the area. "The 'Format' was supposed to delete everything. But this... this looks like [NEW_HARDWARE]."

She walked toward a rusted streetlamp. As she touched it, the metal turned into a liquid-crystal and flowed into the ground.

"The Architects didn't just wipe the Earth," Silas realized. "They 'Reinstalled' it. They're building a new world that doesn't need humans."

Suddenly, the moss beneath their feet turned red.

[ INITIATING_MAINTENANCE_LOGIC. ]

From the shadows of the glowing trees, three creatures emerged. They weren't animals. They were "Wild-Auditors." They looked like wolves made of sharp, white glass. Their eyes were glowing red "Delete" buttons.

"They're the 'Gardeners'," Renny said, raising her deck. "And they think we're weeds."

The first glass-wolf pounced. Silas didn't move. He waited until the creature was inches away, then he raised his metallic hand.

"Sync: [HEAVENLY_SHIELD]!"

A wall of emerald light appeared. The wolf hit the wall and shattered into a thousand pieces of harmless data. But the other two wolves didn't stop. They merged together, forming a larger, more powerful creature—a "Logic-Bear" with claws made of "Null-Energy."

"Renny, the 'Logic' here is different!" Silas shouted. "Our old techniques are too slow!"

"Then let's use the [NEW_DAO]!" Renny replied.

She tapped her deck, sending a signal to the Moon. "Arthur! We need a 'Patch'! The local physics are hostile!"

The Ghost of the Admin

A beam of light shot down from the Moon, hitting Renny's deck. For a second, a holographic image of Arthur Vance appeared between them. He looked like a warrior made of stars.

[ USE_THE_ 'ENVIRONMENTAL_OVERRIDE', ] Arthur's voice echoed in their minds. [ DO_NOT_FIGHT_THE_FOREST. BECOME_THE_FOREST. ]

Silas understood. He closed his eyes and stopped resisting the "Hum" of the Earth. He let the white moss touch his suit. He searched for the "Root" of the local network.

In a second, he saw it. The entire forest was connected to a single "Central-Tree" at the center of the park.

Silas reached out with his mind and "Hacked" the Logic-Bear. He didn't kill it; he [RE-PROGRAMMED] it.

The bear's red eyes turned a soft green. It sat down and began to lick its paws, ignoring the two humans. The red moss turned back to a peaceful white.

"You did it," Renny panted, her suit's energy levels stabilizing.

"No," Silas said, looking toward the ruins of the Spire. "Arthur did. But we can't rely on him forever. The 'Root-Anode' is inside that building. We need to find it and give the people on the Moon a way to 'Download' back to Earth."

The Discovery

They walked through the ruins of the Spire. The lobby was filled with silver trees and glowing vines. In the center of the room, where the Eternity Board used to sit, was a massive, pulsing heart made of obsidian and gold.

"The 'Root-Anode'," Silas said, stepping toward it.

But as he reached out to touch it, a holographic figure appeared. It wasn't Arthur. It wasn't the Archivist.

It was a young man, looking very human, wearing a simple white robe. He looked like an original "User" from the old world.

"Welcome back," the young man said. His voice was soft, but it carried the weight of a god. "I am the System-Gardener. I was worried the backup would never be opened."

"Who are you?" Renny asked, her deck recording every second of the encounter.

"I am the 'Successor' to the Eternity Board," the Gardener smiled. "The Architects left me here to make sure the Earth stays 'Clean.' But I've spent a hundred years reading your 'History' in the data-trash. You humans... you are a very interesting 'Bug'."

He looked at Silas. "Are you here to 'Restore' the old world? Or are you here to join the 'New Garden'?"

Silas looked at the Gardener, then at the glowing forest outside, and then up at the Moon.

"We aren't here for the 'Garden'," Silas said, his metallic eyes glowing with a fierce green light. "We're here for our [HOME]."
