Chapter 75 - Chapter 75 : Amiya... Awakens?

W-where is this...?

Horus stared blankly at his own hands, then at the desk in front of him, piled high with paper documents. The writing on them was obscure and hard to parse, though somehow it looked vaguely familiar. But what were those labels and symbols stamped all over them supposed to be?

"My hands... what is this...?" Horus murmured under his breath as he looked at the smaller fingers and the ring on them.

Then his eyes widened.

Something was wrong.

What was with his voice?!

Alarm bells went off in his head. Horus suddenly realized he seemed to have become someone else entirely. Looking down, he saw that his power armor had somehow turned into a white shirt. The slight swell on his chest carried an unfamiliar weight, and his shoulders already felt sore from it.

What in the world had happened?

But more unsettling than the change in his body was the way his emotions were slipping. He was the most perfect of men, the child of the Master of Mankind. How could he be so rattled by a mere change of form?

He forced himself to inspect the room.

It looked like some kind of office. Several desks stood inside, divided into neat workstations. Each bore the same insignia: a black background with a white fortress emblem.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, Horus spotted a mirror on the desk that seemed to belong to him.

One glance at it, and he saw what he had become.

An abhuman? No—a little girl?

The moment he saw the long ears and the face of a young girl in the mirror, Horus lost the last of his calm. All he felt was fury and humiliation.

Who? Who had used sorcery to turn him into something this absurd?

Thud.

The door opened.

A woman with short silver hair and a cold expression walked in. She, too, bore those abhuman traits—animal-like ears. Judging by her uniform and insignia, she was probably a doctor.

But more than that, what Horus hated was the way she looked at him.

She was examining him—as though some elder were looking down at a junior.

What a joke. He was the Warmaster of the Imperium. Who the hell did she think she was?

Though... she was dressed all in green. Maybe she was some kind of herb.

"Amiya, have you finished today's paperwork? Something more important needs you to step in."

Amiya? Me?

"What are you talking about?" Horus finally snapped.

He barked, "I am the Warmaster of the Imperium! Horus! The most beloved son of the Master of Mankind! There is no 'Amiya' here! You damned xenos—watch your tone when you speak to me!"

The woman froze.

Then she sighed.

"Have the past few days of work exhausted you that badly? If so, then you don't need to attend the meeting about rescuing the Doctor."

"Though this land is suffering, I understand—and you should understand too—that we cannot simply—"

"What is that even supposed to mean?!" Horus cut her off again, furious.

Every half-sentence she spoke contained several useless terms and no clear point. It was maddeningly inefficient.

This time the woman was properly stunned.

No. Something was wrong. This child was acting like a completely different person. What exactly had gone wrong?

"Amiya, calm down first. Yes, what I mean is that both you and I need to re-examine the same issue. You may need help. Don't be nervous."

"Get lost! Who the hell needs help? I am Horus Lupercal!"

The instant those words left his mouth, a tidal wave of memories slammed into his mind.

A girl named Amiya.

Her life. Her soul. Her personality. Everything she was came flooding into him.

The sheer volume of information, merging with his own memories, filled his vision with afterimages. The image of his beloved father overlapped with that of a hooded, mysterious man, flickering back and forth until Horus could no longer bear it.

His sight darkened.

"Amiya!"

He toppled backward like a puppet with its strings cut. The scene around him froze, then fractured into streams of code-like static, followed by a white flash that swallowed everything—only for darkness to swallow the light in turn.

"I found you..."

A soft, ethereal voice sounded out as a hand gently caught Horus's head before it could hit the ground.

His eyes widened.

Before him stood a girl with the exact same face as Amiya.

What now? Why is there another me?

"For tens of thousands of years, across tens of thousands of timelines, I have finally observed you," said the veiled Amiya, her voice utterly devoid of emotion. "Can you help me? Lend me your strength."

Behind the black veil, her eyes were utterly hollow. Even a warrior like Horus felt a chill at the sight. He could not imagine what a living being had gone through to become something like this.

She looked like a dead shell, moving only by the last commands left in her—like a machine.

"Who... are you?" Horus asked, feeling a strange power rising inside him, filling him up more and more.

It felt good. Comforting. Like being near his father. So pleasant that he almost wanted to sink into it forever.

I am... Horus? And also... Amiya?

Voices. Images. Fragments of memory.

Piece by piece, they merged into him, smooth and seamless, without any sign of rejection.

"I am Amiya."

"Amiya?"

"Yes. We are the same person. People who cannot escape the frame imposed upon us. But now, both of us have a chance."

"So... please help me."

"Help you? Why me?" Horus asked, still perfectly rational. "We don't know each other. I need a reason. I don't even know what has happened to me. I have a Great Crusade to continue. If this is your trick, release it, and then we may speak properly, abhuman."

"Because of this."

A coin floated up over Horus's chest.

"Through it, I established a link with you. I do not wish to miss this chance. Only you can accomplish my goal. My world can no longer be saved—but yours still can."

"So take it. Do not leave yourself with regrets."

"Let civilization endure."

As she spoke, Amiya removed the black crown from her head—the symbol of her authority and power—and pushed it into Horus's body.

The two fused.

And she began to fade away.

"Become the new king."

"Amiya... the other me..."

"And Bruce... is a very gentle person..."

"I believe... you two will become good friends..."

Me?

If I am the king... then what becomes of Father? He is the true king.

Will I replace him?

Or perhaps become part of him—not as his son, but as...

his wife?

"AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!"

Bruce let out a shriek so sharp it was almost a sonic weapon.

He swore, with absolute sincerity, that what he was seeing now was the single most catastrophic, world-ending thing he had ever imagined.

The Extra Life Coin had been used.

And what had it done?

Absolutely nothing useful!

Their towering, three-meter-tall Warmaster had instantly shrunk into a soft little bunny girl under two meters tall!

Help. Urgent. Online help needed.

The mighty Warmaster Horus had turned into a soft, fragrant little Amiya, and Bruce genuinely had no idea what he was supposed to do now.

If he'd had a phone on him, he absolutely would have gone online and posted the question for public advice, because this problem was way beyond what one man could handle.

"Wow... the Warmaster turned into a little girl? She's adorable!" Warfarin exclaimed, jotting notes as she observed Horus's new form.

For some reason, even though it was the first time she'd seen her, she couldn't shake the feeling that this little rabbit girl was strangely familiar—and that she ought to respect her.

Of course, I, Warfarin, belong to the Acting Commander while I live, and I'll be his ghost when I die. In this life, I am loyal to him alone!

Loyalty!

"Does this count as a success?" Lion asked, blinking the glare out of her eyes as she leaned against Bruce to steady herself.

When she saw her brother's new form, her first reaction was delight—but then suspicion.

Horus looked too young now. And too small.

That was a very bad advantage.

What if Bruce liked girls like this?

Tch.

"I think... it worked..." Alfred said, his eyes glowing with psychic light as he re-examined Horus. "The missing portions of the Warmaster's soul have been filled."

Which meant the Warmaster really had been revived.

It was miraculous. Almost divine.

But...

Why still no sign of him waking up?

Even as the operating room sank into confusion, Horus finally stirred.

A twitch at the eyelids.

Then a finger moved.

"Theresa... Doctor... Father... Bruce..."

Horus slowly opened his eyes, staring up at the surgical lights in a daze.

A sorrow he couldn't explain spread through his chest, filling it to the brim. Countless memories flashed through him, merging, intertwining, becoming one.

I need to...

save this world.

And everyone in it.

In another world, on the land of Terra, aboard Rhodes Island's landship—

A silver-haired Doctor in a black hoodie had come, as usual, to knock on a door, ready to invite her soft little rabbit to breakfast.

Ever since coming to this world, she'd worked hard to keep Rhodes Island—and everyone on it—steadily moving toward a better future.

I'm going to save this broken land, she thought.

My little animals—I will save them with my own hands.

"Amiya?"

After waiting a while and hearing no response from inside, the Doctor frowned.

Had she overdone it last night? Had her little bunny tired herself out too much?

Honestly. Sleepy little rabbit. You deserve a proper punishment.

"Amiya, I'm coming in~"

The Doctor pushed the handle down and opened the door.

She had expected to see either a sleepy-eyed little rabbit, or maybe a little rabbit hastily changing clothes.

Instead, sprawled across the bed was an outrageously huge bald brute, clad in white armor that gleamed like polished jade.

In that instant, all the color drained out of her.

What the hell?!

What is something from that yellow-skinned guy's world doing here?!

Where did my soft little rabbit go, and why has she turned into the Warmaster?!
