The notification was waiting when he opened his eyes.
He had fallen asleep against a boulder near the zone's eastern edge. The conducting had been low and continuous for most of the night — not exactly sound, but a felt quality, like a long breath being let out slowly. By the second hour he had stopped cataloging it and slept.
The vault pair shells were quiet now. Mira had set them aside at some point in the night. She sat fifteen meters away, writing in her translation notebook. She did not look up when he stirred.
Kai held himself still for a moment. The carrier function read the ground without prompting — Zone Three's signature was clear and settled. Distinct from the energy character it had carried during construction. The entity was present. It was conducting.
He let the notification surface.
