Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Eventually, we finally arrived at the goddamn theme park. The endless walk felt like it had taken a couple million years, maybe even longer. Chyna had been walking ahead of me for the majority of the walk, so we didn't really get to talk very much. That made me sad as hell, if I'm being honest.

The only goddamn reason that I wanted to go to this theme park in the first place was so Chyna and I could talk a little. Whatever, at least we're spending some time together, which I suppose is pretty damn rare for us.

Chyna was standing by the entrance of the theme park, waiting for me to get there. As I just said, she had been walking ahead of me nearly the whole goddamn walk.

I guess Chyna was already tired of waiting, since she ran on over to me rather than just waiting there for me. Then she started grabbing my goddamn arm, which did piss me off a little bit, but I decided to just let it go. She is my sister, after all.

"Come on! Hurry up, I didn't just walk that whole way to wait for you." she said, clearly far too energetic for her own good.

"Come down, will you? I'm walking as fast as I can, y'know." If it wasn't already obvious, I was in fact not walking at my fastest pace. But still, it annoys the hell out of me when people hassle me.

"No, actually, your really not! Your walking as slow as some lazy snail!" she said, I couldn't tell if she was annoyed with me or not.

"Hey, snails aren't lazy at all. They're just slow. In what way does that make them lazy?"

"Ugh, just hurry up."

"Alright, alright fine. If you really insist, I suppose I wouldn't mind walking with a bit more speed."

"Yeah! I insist, now hurry up."

Chyna ran off ahead, back towards the theme park, of course. I also walked a bit quicker, still not too fast though.

After a few centuries of walking, I finally arrived at the goddamn theme park where Chyna was waiting for me. But now, I had to do the most annoying thing in whole damn world.

I had to buy the passes or whatever to get into the themepark. So I walked on over to the ticket guy, with Chyna following quickly behind me.

"Hey, how are you?" he asked

"We're doing just fine, thanks for asking." I can be pretty damn well-mannered, only when I feel like it though. "May we get two passes, please?"

"How long?"

"Uhm... just give us the day passes, I suppose."

"Alright, that'll be 12780 yen." what a greedy bastard, I don't even know if I have that much on me.

Then, much to my dismay, pulled out 9000 yen and handed it to me. What the hell is she thinking? I don't wanna spend any of her money. She should know that.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing?" I said, in an unpleasant manner.

"Paying." she said excitedly, but also normally at the same time.

"I don't wanna spend any of your money." I said, trying to give her the 9000 yen back. "Where the hell did you even get this money, anyway?"

"Grandma gave it to me."

"Grandma? When the hell did she show up?" I don't remember Grandma visiting us anytime recently.

"A couple of days ago... you weren't here though."

"Alright, uh, I still don't wanna spend your money though."

"Then I'll spend it myself."

Geez, this girl is so goddamn stubborn. I wanna say it makes me mad, and it does a very tiny bit, but it really doesn't make me too mad.

"Here, how about this: let's pay it fifty fifty. I'll spend 6390 and you'll spend 6390, is that good enough for you?"

"Yeah... that's fine, I guess."

"Alright, good."

I decided to be sneaky and spend all of my yen, which I only had 10,00 and only spend roughly 3,000 of hers. I handed her back the leftover yen, and she didn't even notice.

"Is that good enough, sir?" I asked, to the man at the register.

"Yes, that should be good," he said, handing us our day passes. "But shouldn't you children be in school?"

"No, we got today off for some reason."

"But you both have your uniforms on..."

"Oh, uhm... Well, you see, our father didn't quite know that we both had today off and dropped us off anyway. But now he's off at work, so we decided to go out and have a little bit of fun, for once."

"Oh, alright, have fun you two!" he said as we walked off into the theme park. What an idiot. I mean, was that not an obvious lie? How the hell did he not see right through that? Then, I looked down at Chyna. She seemed pretty damn annoyed for some odd reason.

"What's wrong, Chyna?" I asked sincerely.

"Nothing, it's nothing.." I've gotta say, she's not a talented liar. That's a good thing, though, I suppose.

"Come on, something's obviously wrong."

"I don't like it when you lie.."

Her saying that made me feel sad as hell, almost as if I was disappointed in myself. I don't really get her, I just got her out of school and got us into a goddamn theme park. I mean, that's gotta be a win for sure. But I didn't wanna be a bad influence on her, so I decided to say something else.

"Oh, that's what this is about..." I said while rubbing my chin. Then I stood up and said, "Why don't you like me lying?"

She looked offended when I asked that question, but calmed down pretty quickly. "Because..." then she took a very long pause, it sort of threw me off a little, if I'm being honest.

"Because why?"

"Because of how easily you lied to them.."

"What does that have anything to do with this?"

"You really are stupid..."

"Huh? Hey! Watch your mouth, Chyna!" I'm not a big fan of her saying any bad words, if you couldn't already tell.

Then her face darkened up a bunch, "Because if you lied to them without any trouble... you could be lying to me as well! About everything..."

That hit me about as hard as a train running me over, as if every time I stood up, another train would immediately knock me back down. It really made me feel sad as hell. I wanted to cry, if I'm being honest.

I didn't really wanna talk about this at that moment, so I just began to walk on ahead.

"Stop avoiding these questions, Yasunari!" she said, trying to pry deeper into the matter.

"You didn't ask me any questions." I said, deadpan.

"Yes I did!"

"No, you didn't."

"Well then, are you lying to me?"

"No, I'm really not."

"But what if you're lying about that?"

"I'm not lying to you. Just leave this alone, would you? I don't really want this to ruin my goddamn day."

"You are lying to me, aren't you?" she said, accusingly.

"No, I'm not!" I said in a louder voice. As I've previously stated, I don't exactly like it when people think that I'm lying.

Then her expression darkened, and she crossed her arms. I'm not sure what she thought that would do. Maybe she thought it would make her arms really buff and then she could strangle me to death, or something like that.

"Sorry, I lost my composure." I said, trying to make her feel better. Of course I wasn't actually sorry. In fact, I actually thought I was completely justified on this one, if I'm being honest.

I don't think she accepted the apology. She just kept on standing there angrily. I really didn't want this to ruin my damn day, so I decided to try to brighten up the mood.

"Hey, do you wanna go on that ride?" I said, pointing at some bumper cars attraction. I had just pointed at a random ride, but I could actually go for some bumper cars.

"Yes..." she said, quietly, of course.

We walked over to the bumper cars and stood in line for what felt like an eternity. While we were standing in line, I was getting tired of the silence and wanted to spark up a conversation of some sorts. I figured that if Chyna didn't wanna talk, I would just talk to another person in line.

"So, Chyna, what do you wanna talk about?" I asked sincerely.

She stayed quiet. This was starting to piss me off. Actually, no, I've been pissed off this whole goddamn time.

"Look, I'm getting tired of this. I don't want today to be depressing as hell, alright?" I said quickly. I wanted to get my point across for her to stop being such a baby.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I may have been in the wrong on this whole thing. I'm ruining my little sister's innocence. Her life is probably shitty as is. All I'm doing is making it worse. What the hell is wrong with me? What type of terrible path does fate have laid out for me? Thinking of that sort of scares me, actually.

"Alright, look, we don't gotta talk if you don't want to." I said, accepting the fact that I wasn't exactly in the right on this whole thing.

"I do." She said, finally choosing to utter some goddamn words.

"Then what do you wanna talk about?" I asked, trying to get the ball rolling here.

"I don't know," she said dryly. "There's not really anything I wanna talk about, but it would be nice to talk about something..."

"Alright then, how about..." I took a second to think of something, "How has home been?"

"Fine."

"Oh..." I hadn't exactly expected that. That's similar to something I would say. It's unlike her to speak so briefly. "Well, has anything cool happened?"

"No, not that I haven't already told you about."

"Is anything cool gonna happen?"

"Well, I guess there is something that I am pretty excited about."

"What is it?" She's been so vague, so I decided to try to pry a little deeper.

"Did I tell you that Toyoko is coming home?"

"Huh?"

"Did I tell you?"

"Probably, if you did, I forgot. But that doesn't matter. Toyoko is coming home?!?!"

Toyoko coming home was an enormous shock to me, if you couldn't tell by my reaction. Geez, it's been forever since I've seen her. I wonder if she's gonna be all weird and foreign when she comes back, since she's been off in some other country, which I couldn't be bothered to remember.

"Um, yeah..." Chyna said, probably wondering why the hell I was so surprised.

"When?" I asked. I kind of wanted to see Toyoko again, if you wanna know the truth. I mean, who wouldn't wanna see their older sister that they haven't seen in a million years?

"Um, I think it was three days."

"Alright, sorry for being gone so much. I'll try to be better about it from now on." I said sincerely.

Chyna seemed pretty damn happy about my apology. She had this little smile creep across her face. It made me happy as hell, if I'm being honest. But then a confused expression appeared on her face, as if she were thinking really hard about something.

Then she turned to me and said, "That reminds me..." Then she took a pause and started to stroke her chin like some scientist researching black holes, or something like that. "You never did answer my question completely. Why haven't you been home at all recently?"

"I did answer that."

"But you just said that it was none of my business."

"Well, that's an answer. Isn't it?"

"I guess so, but I want an actual answer."

I was getting tired of this question, and I'm guessing she won't stop asking until I give her a real answer. So I figured that I might as well give an answer.

"Alright, fine, I'll tell you."

"Really, yay!"

"Yeah."

As I began to open my mouth to tell her, it was our time for bumper cars group to begin. We hadn't even realized it, so we had to hurry. Which didn't give time for her question to be answered.
