Chapter 3 - Prologue

—**—

A very long time ago, the Gods ruled all.

Their light shone across Atheria, a kingdom of magic where the Faerie guardians were blessed with powerful and unyielding magic. They kept the balance of the land, and the land itself thrummed with divine energy.

Dragons soared above crystal spires. Sirens sang in moonlit lakes. Witches stirred potions in towers carved from living stone. A world that is perfect and full of life.

But even perfection breeds envy.

Envy leads to destruction.

One thread at a time, the balance of the world wore thin, fraying with each passing moment. Somewhere in the darkness, the wind whispered a single, immutable truth: no power endures forever.

And yet, the world held its breath, waiting to see who would rise, and who would fall.

Also, quick note:

• Italics – That's what's going on in a character's head. Their little thoughts, feelings, or what they're quietly freaking out about. Also, it's used to stress a particular word or phrase for intensity.

• "Quotation Marks" – These are the words they actually say out loud.

• —Dashes— – I usually use these to separate ideas, make lists, or give a sentence a little extra pause when commas weren't enough.

• Bold Text – Indicates a mindlink conversation. Mindlink is a silent, telepathic connection used by werewolves. It can happen between pack members, between a werewolf's human and wolf side, or between mates.

Only members of the same pack can normally communicate this way. When wolves use mindlink, their eyes usually change color, showing they're in a trance-like state while still aware of their surroundings. An Alpha King can reach all wolves, even outside their pack, and mates can communicate through mindlink even if one isn't a werewolf.

However, a person can only use mindlink once their wolf side is present.

Werewolves fully awaken at 21 years old. Until then, they are mostly human, though stronger, faster, and tougher than normal humans. After turning 21, their wolf side fully emerges, giving them enhanced speed, agility, senses, and strength. Werewolves age and die, but their health and physical resilience are far superior to a normal human's.
