Chapter 108 - Girls Night

SF Chapter 108: Girls Night

The next day, on Sunday, Dani was writing fluently until he stopped and looked over at Lexi, who was having coffee.

They were having breakfast at the hotel.

"Wow, I just wrote 30 pages between yesterday and today," he revealed. "That's like two weeks of my usual work."

"That's nice," Lexi smiled. Then she added, "Oh, today I'm going out with some friends I made when I took a few acting classes here in New York."

"Leighton Meester and Anna Kendrick," she revealed.

"Oh, Anna? Didn't know she was here, nor that you knew her," Dani said, surprised. "She seems like the funny type. I liked what she did in Superbad."

"She is," Lexi agreed. "You never talked to her before?"

"Nope," he shook his head. "Just like with Mean Girls, I still haven't met the girls who acted in the movie."

[Daniel commentary]

"Anna played Jules, the pretty girl who was supposed to be Seth's love interest," Dani said about the movie.

"To me, she's the only one who stood out among the girls in the film. But then again, Superbad is much more centered around the three boys, and maybe the two cops."

"I admit it. The female side is lacking in this one. The total opposite of Mean Girls and Easy A," he evaluated his works.

[Commentary ends]

"Leighton Meester? Is that a girl?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes."

"Feels more like a surname. Leighton Meester, the boss of an RPG game," he joked.

Lexi made a blank expression.

"And '-ton' has a stronger sound, so it's much more common in male names," he added.

"Huh?" Lexi was a little surprised by the commentary.

"Well, I studied names a bit. After all, I need a bunch of them for everything I write."

She nodded. "Ah, she's the one from the show Tarzan. The second episode airs today on The WB."

They talked a little more before heading out to visit a few museums.

That afternoon, Lexi went to meet her friends, while Dani headed back to Central Perk.

He walked in and saw Ross and Monica looking at Phoebe, who was asleep on the couch.

"Hey, what's wrong with-" Dani was about to ask about Phoebe, but she suddenly woke up, startling the three of them.

"What?" she asked, seeing the looks on their faces.

"You just fell asleep a moment ago," Monica commented.

"Oh, I got no sleep last night," she explained with a tired expression.

"Why?" Dani asked.

"My grandmother has this new boyfriend..." she revealed, getting some strange looks, but she went on, "...and they're both kind of insecure in bed, so-"

"So they're constantly having to reassure each other that they're having a good time. You have no idea how loud they are..." she added.

"Ugh, not the kind of information I needed," Dani winced.

Monica took her friend's hand. "You can stay with Rachel and me tonight."

"Huh, Chandler has a date with Aurora today, Joey also has a date... with some girl," Dani summed up, glancing at Ross.

"I'm going to Carol's today," Ross said about his plans for the night. "Talking to the baby."

"Did I miss something?" Dani looked at his other cousin. "I thought Ross's baby was supposed to be born in a few months."

"We have this thing where we talk to the baby in Carol's belly," Ross explained. "I know it's weird, but I don't want to be the only one left out."

"And I need to do some stuff before that," he remembered, then said goodbye and left.

Dani looked at Monica with puppy eyes.

"You can stay with us tonight too," Monica remarked.

"Great! Hey, since tomorrow is a holiday, Columbus Day, we can have a slumber party, a girls' night! But with me as the only man," Dani proposed, striking a pose.

Monica chuckled. "Doesn't sound like a bad plan."

"It is an awesome plan!" he tried to hype them up even more. "How about you make some cocktails, Mon?"

"I'll order those giant shrimp, lobster tails, and whatever fancy seafood platter you tell me about."

"And," he turned to Phoebe, "whatever veggie you like."

-------‐-----------‐-----------‐-----------‐-----------‐---------

Later, Dani, Monica, and Phoebe were already in their pajamas in the kitchen.

Monica was mixing a cocktail while Dani was already eating the shrimp that had arrived.

Then Rachel showed up. She had left earlier to meet some friends.

"Hey, Rach, how was it with your friends?" Monica turned to her. "Would you like some Tiki Death Punch?" She showed her the blender with the drink she had just made.

Rachel tilted her head. "What's that?"

"Well, it's rum and-"

"Okay," she simply grabbed the whole blender, stuck in a straw, and started drinking.

"We decided to have a slumber party. Want some shrimp?" Dani offered, seeing that she wasn't in a good mood.

The blonde also took the entire bowl.

Monica took the blender back from her friend, grabbed her by the hand, and guided her to the couch. Phoebe and Dani followed too.

"Okay, Rach, what is it?"

The blonde waited for a moment, then revealed, "It feels like everyone I know is either getting married, or getting pregnant, or getting promoted..."

"...and I'm reading scripts. Most of the time, they're not even good ones," she vented in frustration.

Dani had grabbed a straw and was drinking from the blender Monica was holding.

He pointed out, "Well, it's not that hard to get pregnant, you know? Birds and the bees..." receiving a glare from Rachel and a pinch from his cousin.

"Dani!" Monica scolded him. "And go get some glasses."

-------‐-----------‐-----------‐-----------‐-----------‐---------

Now Rachel was also wearing pajamas, and everyone had a drink in hand and a plate of food.

Monica was trying to cheer her friend up. "Rach, you should feel great. You're doing this amazing independent thing."

"Monica, what is so amazing about it? I gave up, like, everything. And for what?"

"You're just like Jack," Phoebe remarked.

Rachel made a face. "Jack from downstairs?"

"No, Jack and the Beanstalk."

Monica looked at her former roommate in disbelief and replied sarcastically, "Ah, the other Jack."

"Yes," Phoebe just nodded. "See, he gave up something, but then he got those magic beans."

"He woke up and there was this big plant... outside of his window, full of possibilities and stuff."

Phoebe even added, "And he lived in a village, and you live in the Village."

"Okay, but, Pheebs," Rachel said a little exasperated, "Jack gave up a cow. I gave up an orthodontist. Okay, I know I didn't love him, but-"

Phoebe interrupted her. "Oh, Jack did love the cow."

Dani muttered to his cousin, making a wronged face. "How come I'm the only one getting scolded? Phoebe can be pretty mean too."

"You do it on purpose, just for the sake of the fun," Monica retorted.

He muttered, "One day, we'll find out that Pheebs does it too. Just for fun."
