Chapter — Morning at the Mansion
The mansion was quiet when the cars arrived.
Not the ordinary quiet of a large house in early morning, but the heavy kind of silence that comes after a stormy night when everyone is too exhausted to speak.
The sky was still grey, clouds hanging low after the rain.
Ben pushed open the large gate while Joong parked the car inside the driveway.
Cole stepped out first.
Care was still asleep in the back seat.
Her head rested slightly against the window, hair falling over her face, breathing slow and even. The faint rise and fall of her shoulders was the only sign that she was awake enough to breathe comfortably.
For someone who had been panicking for breath just hours ago, the calm felt unreal.
"Don't wake her," Nova said quietly.
Cole nodded.
Without a word, he bent slightly and carefully lifted Care again.
She shifted a little in sleep but didn't wake.
Her hand instinctively grabbed the collar of his shirt as if searching for balance.
Ben noticed and smirked slightly.
"Bro, she really likes using you as a pillow."
Cole shot him an annoyed look.
"Shut up."
But he didn't move her hand away.
Inside the mansion, the warmth immediately felt different from the cold morning air.
Ash quickly cleared space on the long couch in the living room.
"Lay her here."
Cole gently placed Care on the couch.
She curled slightly on her side, still asleep.
For a moment, no one spoke.
Everyone simply watched her.
It felt strange.
The girl they had seen as arrogant… untouchable… proud…
Now looked like the most fragile person in the room.
Nova finally broke the silence.
"She needs rest."
Ben stretched his stiff shoulders.
"So do we."
Joong dropped onto another couch dramatically.
"I swear if I ever spend another night in a library again, I'm transferring colleges."
Daisy rolled her eyes.
"You were snoring the loudest."
"I was not."
"You were."
Their small argument faded into the background as the group slowly spread across the living room.
But on the other side of the room, something else was happening.
Lyra sat quietly on one of the chairs.
Her face still looked pale.
Alex noticed immediately.
"You're still warm."
Lyra frowned slightly.
"I'm fine."
"You said that yesterday too."
Before she could argue, Alex walked away toward the kitchen.
A few minutes later he returned with a glass of warm water.
"Drink."
Lyra looked at him.
"You're acting like a doctor."
"I'm acting like someone who doesn't want you fainting too."
She sighed but took the glass.
Ash watched the interaction from the sofa and whispered to Nova,
"Something's going on there."
Nova smirked slightly.
"Definitely."
Lyra finished the water and handed the glass back.
"Thanks."
Alex shrugged casually.
But his eyes still checked her forehead again.
The fever had gone down slightly.
Good.
Care Wakes
Almost an hour passed.
The group had slowly started relaxing.
Ben and Joong were arguing over something on Ben's phone.
Daisy was scrolling through messages.
Ash was half asleep.
Lyra had wrapped herself in a blanket while Alex sat nearby.
Then—
Care moved.
It was small at first.
Her fingers twitched slightly against the couch.
Nova noticed immediately.
"She's waking up."
Cole looked up.
Care slowly opened her eyes.
For a moment, she just stared at the ceiling.
Confused.
Then she sat up suddenly.
Her breathing was normal.
But her expression was completely lost.
She looked around the room slowly.
The mansion.
The group.
Everyone staring at her.
Her brows furrowed.
"…Where am I?"
No one answered immediately.
Care blinked again, trying to focus.
Her head felt heavy.
Like something important had happened but her mind couldn't reach it.
She looked at Cole.
Then at Nova.
Then at Lyra.
"…What happened?"
Her voice was calm.
Too calm.
Cole frowned slightly.
"You don't remember?"
Care shook her head slowly.
"The last thing I remember…"
She paused.
Thinking.
"…I was in the library."
The room fell silent.
Ash looked at Nova.
Nova looked at Ben.
Ben looked at Cole.
Care noticed their expressions immediately.
"What?"
Cole rubbed the back of his neck.
"You had an asthma attack."
Care blinked.
"What?"
Nova stepped forward gently.
"You started panicking when the storm started. Your inhaler wasn't with you."
Ash added quietly,
"You couldn't breathe properly."
Daisy crossed her arms but her voice was softer than usual.
"You were banging on the door trying to get out."
Care's face slowly paled.
"I… did that?"
Cole nodded.
"You passed out."
Care looked down at her hands.
They were shaking slightly.
"…I don't remember any of that."
Nova explained calmly.
"After you fainted, we stayed in the library the whole night."
Joong added,
"You slept like a rock."
Ben shrugged.
"And now you're here."
Care sat there silently for several seconds.
Then suddenly—
"I'm sorry."
The words came out quickly.
The entire group frowned.
Care looked down again.
"I caused trouble for all of you."
Her voice was quiet.
"I'm sorry."
Ash immediately shook her head.
"No."
Ben spoke next.
"Don't."
Nova crossed her arms.
"You didn't do anything wrong."
Care looked confused.
"I—"
Cole interrupted.
"You had an asthma attack."
His tone was blunt.
"That's not something you apologize for."
Care looked at him.
For the first time since she woke up, her eyes softened slightly.
But she still said quietly,
"You still had to deal with it."
Daisy sighed.
"Care."
Care looked up.
"We stayed because we wanted to."
Ben nodded.
"Not because you forced us."
Nova added calmly,
"Humans help each other."
Care looked at all of them.
One by one.
For a moment she didn't speak.
Then slowly she nodded.
"…Okay."
It wasn't a full acceptance.
But it was enough.
A Quiet Moment
Across the room, Lyra suddenly coughed lightly.
Everyone turned.
"You okay?" Ash asked immediately.
Lyra nodded.
"Just tired."
Alex frowned slightly.
"You still have a fever."
Lyra glared at him.
"You are not my doctor."
"No," Alex replied calmly.
"But someone has to make sure you don't collapse next."
Ben grinned.
"Oho."
Daisy elbowed him.
"Shut up."
Lyra sighed and leaned back against the couch.
But when another small shiver ran through her shoulders, Alex quietly placed a blanket over her again.
"You should sleep."
"I'm not sleeping again."
"You barely slept last night."
Lyra looked like she wanted to argue.
But instead she simply leaned her head back.
"…Fine. Five minutes."
Alex smiled slightly.
"Sure."
Two minutes later she was asleep.
Her head slowly tilted sideways.
Right onto Alex's shoulder.
The room went silent.
Ben's grin returned instantly.
"Oh this is—"
Nova covered his mouth immediately.
"Do not wake her."
Alex didn't move.
Not even slightly.
Lyra looked peaceful again.
And this time…
He didn't mind being the pillow.
Care Watches
Across the room, Care had noticed everything.
The group.
The way they talked.
The way they helped each other.
The way they stayed.
She looked down quietly.
For the first time since arriving at college…
Something felt different.
Not friendship.
Not yet.
But something close to understanding.
She leaned back slowly against the couch.
Still tired.
Still weak.
But calmer.
Outside, the storm clouds were finally clearing.
And for the first time…
The silence between the group didn't feel hostile.
It felt… human.
