Chapter 22 -  The Ghoul’s Kiss

Sean had already obtained the most important ingredient for the Muggle Experience Potion—Thestral saliva.

As for the remaining ingredients, all he had to do was sneak into Snape's storage room and take a little from there.

They were all common materials anyway. Snape probably wouldn't care. Even if he noticed something missing, there were so many students at Hogwarts that he would never know who took them.

Students were frequently walking through the corridors on weekends. Fortunately, Snape's storage room was located in the dungeons, just like his office.

Sean returned to his dormitory, grabbed the Marauder's Map, and prepared to gather the materials immediately.

Snape's name didn't appear anywhere near the storage room on the map.

Relieved, Sean slipped inside.

After collecting the remaining eleven ingredients, he returned to his dormitory.

He originally planned to go straight to the second-floor girls' bathroom to brew the potion. However, after checking the time, he realized the Ouroboros Society meeting would begin in just two hours.

Brewing the potion required plenty of time and concentration. Two hours was far too rushed.

"Looks like I'll have to wait until tomorrow night," Sean muttered.

After dinner, Sean met Chris in the Slytherin common room.

The two of them headed together to the prefects' bathroom on the sixth floor.

The other six members had already arrived.

As Sean and Chris entered, Kurt flicked his wand, and the bathroom door quietly shut behind them.

Sean had already activated his Magic vision before entering.

He noticed a simple magical structure forming at the tip of Kurt's wand. Kurt's wandless spellcasting seemed like a deliberate display of his superior ability in front of the two newcomers.

"Blanco," Kurt said, assigning tasks.

"Sean and Chris are yours. Teach them Ghoul's Kiss."

"The rest of you—pair up and review last year's spells."

"Come on, Sean, Chris," said the seventh-year senior with the buzz cut, gesturing for them to follow.

"Blanco," Sean asked as they walked aside,

"what kind of Dark Magic is Ghoul's Kiss?"

"It has a burning effect," Blanco explained. "When it hits someone, it leaves severe burns that are very difficult to heal."

Sean continued questioning him.

"I'm curious—where does Ouroboros get all these Dark Magic spells? Is there some kind of Dark Magic book?"

Blanco chuckled.

"If we wrote it all down in a book, wouldn't that be too dangerous?"

He tapped his temple.

"It's all stored up here."

Sean nodded in understanding.

Teaching Dark Magic at Hogwarts was already risky enough. If there were a physical book containing such spells, the society would have been discovered and dismantled long ago.

"So the organization has survived fifty years through pure oral transmission," Sean thought.

"The president passes the knowledge down to the others. Kurt is only in sixth year, so he'll still be teaching for another year."

Blanco continued explaining.

"Dark Magic is extremely dangerous. Once it hits someone, the effects can be irreversible. Even during practice, you must be extremely careful."

"If someone gets injured while practicing Dark Magic, Kurt won't allow you to go to Madam Pomfrey in the hospital wing."

"Has anyone ever been injured?" Chris asked.

"Of course," Blanco replied confidently.

"Then how were they treated if they couldn't go to the hospital wing?" Sean asked curiously.

Blanco had guided several groups of new members before. The questions they asked were always similar.

He smiled knowingly.

"With the counter-curse, of course."

"Every Dark Magic spell we teach has a corresponding counter-spell that neutralizes the damage."

"We don't teach the Three Unforgivable Curses here. As long as there's a counter-curse, accidents can still be fixed."

"After all—we're still students."

Sean suddenly understood.

"So that's how it works."

"As long as a counter-curse exists, accidental injuries can be reversed."

He immediately thought of Snape's Sectumsempra, which also had a counter-curse: Vulnera Sanentur.

Harry had once used Sectumsempra against Draco during a conflict, leaving Draco severely wounded and bleeding.

If Snape hadn't arrived in time and used the counter-curse, Draco might have died from blood loss.

Similarly, when Snape accidentally severed George Weasley's ear during the war, Mrs. Weasley had no way to heal it.

If Snape had been there, George's ear might have been saved.

"Snape's textbook only recorded Sectumsempra," Sean realized.

"The counter-curse wasn't written down. I'll have to be extremely careful if I practice it."

"Watch closely," Blanco said proudly, raising his wand.

"Witness the power of Dark Magic."

He swung his wand decisively at a wooden training dummy.

"Ghoul's Kiss!"

Sean focused intently with his Magic vision.

Intricate magical lines twisted and intertwined around Blanco's wand, gradually forming four magical frameworks.

A dark red beam shot toward the dummy.

The wooden torso was instantly gouged open, leaving a charred black hole that emitted faint wisps of smoke.

"Well?" Blanco said proudly.

"Impressive, right?"

Sean nodded.

It was indeed powerful—far more offensive than any spell he currently possessed.

But he hadn't seen the entire structure clearly. The final two magical frameworks looked too similar, and he wasn't certain which magical lines should be constructed first.

"Blanco," Sean asked,

"could you demonstrate it one more time?"

Blanco assumed Sean had been completely captivated by his performance.

He shrugged in what he believed was a charming manner.

"Don't rush, Sean. Today is only your first Ouroboros meeting."

"There's plenty of time ahead."

"Learning a single Dark Magic spell takes five or six times longer than the spells you learn in class."

Sean suspected the reason was simple.

They probably spent extra time practicing to avoid mistakes while constructing the magical frameworks.

"That's why it takes them so long," he thought.

"Blanco," Sean suddenly asked,

"how many Dark Magic spells does Kurt know?"

Blanco glanced over at Kurt and lowered his voice.

"I heard the Malfoy family supports the Dark Lord."

"Kurt is extremely passionate about Dark Magic."

"By fifth year, he had already surpassed the previous president."

"But I don't know exactly how many Dark Magic spells he knows."

"In Ouroboros, most members learn around ten spells before graduation."

"I'm about to graduate myself, and I've only mastered nine."

"The rule is simple: you must completely master one spell before learning the next."

Sean calculated silently.

"Seven years… around ten spells."

"That's barely more than one spell per year."

"The founders of Ouroboros must have deliberately slowed the learning pace to keep things secret."

At that moment, Keith and Theo were practicing two different Dark Magic spells nearby.

Sean watched them so intently that he completely forgot Blanco was still talking.

"Sean! Chris!" Blanco called.

"Come here. I'll explain the theory behind Ghoul's Kiss."

Sean was still mentally recording the magical frameworks from the other two spells and didn't hear him at all.

Chris nudged him sharply with her elbow.

Blanco handed each of them a piece of parchment and a quill.

"When the session ends," he said calmly,

"these papers must be burned."

Sean couldn't help thinking:

The Ouroboros Society really left no loose ends.

No wonder it had managed to survive at Hogwarts for fifty years without being discovered.
