Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - The Quiet Village

The village was small, but it was alive with quiet activity.

As Lin Tian walked along the dirt road, he observed everything carefully.

Wooden houses stood on both sides of the path. Most were simple structures with sloped roofs made from clay tiles or thatch. Small vegetable gardens surrounded many of the homes, and chickens wandered freely between the fences.

Villagers had already begun their daily routines.

Some carried buckets of water from the central well. Others were feeding livestock or preparing tools for the day's work in the fields.

Children ran through the streets, laughing and chasing each other without concern.

To Lin Tian, the scene felt peaceful.

For millions of years he had existed among stars, voids, and silent cosmic structures. Compared to the vast emptiness of space, the sounds of human life felt strangely warm.

But even while walking calmly, his mind continued analyzing the environment.

He could sense faint streams of spiritual energy flowing through the land beneath the village.

The energy was thin compared to the dense concentrations near mountains or deep forests, but it was still present.

This confirmed his earlier observation.

The planet naturally generated spiritual energy across its surface, though the density varied depending on location.

Such places often became centers for cultivation sects.

But this small village clearly had no such connection.

Which made it an ideal place for quiet observation.

Lin Tian eventually reached the center of the village.

A wide stone well stood there, surrounded by several wooden benches. Villagers gathered around it to collect water and exchange morning greetings.

Next to the well stood a slightly larger building with a wooden sign hanging above its entrance.

The faded characters on the sign read:

Zhang Family Guest House

Lin Tian stepped toward the entrance.

Inside, the guest house was simple but clean. A wooden counter stood near the front, and several small tables were arranged along the walls.

The faint smell of steamed rice and herbal soup filled the room.

Behind the counter stood an elderly man with grey hair tied in a small knot.

He looked up when Lin Tian entered.

The old man studied him quietly for a moment.

Travelers were not uncommon in rural regions, but something about Lin Tian's calm presence felt unusual.

Still, the old man simply smiled.

"Welcome, young traveler," he said. "You must be new here."

Lin Tian nodded politely.

"Yes. I arrived this morning and was told this place offers lodging."

The old man placed a small teapot on the counter and poured a cup of warm tea.

"That's correct," he replied. "My name is Zhang Wei. This guest house has served travelers for nearly thirty years."

He pushed the cup of tea toward Lin Tian.

"You look like you've come a long way. Have some tea first."

Lin Tian accepted the cup.

"Thank you."

He took a small sip.

The tea was simple, but the warmth spread comfortably through his body.

For someone who had existed in the vacuum of space for millions of years, such ordinary human experiences felt unexpectedly pleasant.

Zhang Wei leaned on the counter.

"So," the old man said, "where are you traveling from?"

Lin Tian had already prepared a simple answer.

"From the eastern regions," he replied calmly. "I've been traveling for some time and wanted to rest somewhere quiet."

Zhang Wei nodded.

"That makes sense. Our village is small, but it's peaceful."

He pointed toward the staircase behind the counter.

"I still have two empty rooms upstairs. Food and lodging are included."

Lin Tian nodded.

"That will be fine."

After arranging the room, Zhang Wei handed him a small wooden key.

"Room three," the old man said. "Second door on the left."

Lin Tian thanked him and walked upstairs.

The room was modest.

A wooden bed stood beside a small window overlooking the village road. A narrow table and chair occupied the corner, and a simple oil lamp rested on the table.

The space contained nothing luxurious.

But for Lin Tian, it was more than sufficient.

He sat near the window and quietly observed the village outside.

Farmers were now leaving for the fields.

Several merchants had arrived with small carts carrying grain, cloth, and tools to sell.

From time to time, Lin Tian could sense faint fluctuations of spiritual energy among the villagers.

But they were extremely weak.

None of them were cultivators.

Which raised an interesting question.

If this world possessed cultivation systems, where were the cultivators located?

Most likely within organized sects or powerful clans far from ordinary settlements.

Lin Tian leaned slightly back in the chair.

"I will need more information," he thought.

Studying the entire planet from space would take far too long.

But information gathered from local inhabitants could guide him much faster.

Fortunately, villages often received travelers and merchants from distant regions.

Over time, he could gather plenty of knowledge.

As he considered this, a sudden noise echoed from outside.

Voices were raised in argument.

Lin Tian turned toward the window.

Near the village entrance, several men wearing rough armor had arrived on horseback.

Their appearance immediately caught his attention.

Unlike the villagers, these men carried weapons.

Swords hung from their belts, and the symbols on their clothing suggested they belonged to an organized group.

The villagers nearby seemed uneasy.

Some people stepped aside nervously as the riders dismounted.

Lin Tian narrowed his eyes slightly.

For the first time since arriving on the planet, something unusual had appeared.

And it was happening right outside the peaceful village.

He stood slowly and walked toward the door.

It seemed his quiet observation might begin sooner than expected.
