Ashes of the Silent War

Chapter 5 – The Leviathan Files

The war that began in Gravehold did not stay there.

Within forty-eight hours, the entire wasteland erupted into conflict.

The Crimson Legion pushed north toward the ruined city of Valkor.

The Iron Dominion mobilized armies from their fortress at the Black Citadel.

Mercenary guilds formed temporary alliances.

Warlords awakened their private militias.

And hidden in the chaos, a secret operation began.

Because Kael Varden had found something more important than the war.

The truth.

Night covered the wasteland like a black ocean.

Fifty kilometers east of Gravehold stood an abandoned military complex buried beneath a mountain ridge.

At least, that's what it looked like from the outside.

But Kael stood on a cliff overlooking the facility through night-vision binoculars.

"Dominion research base," he said quietly.

Below them, heavy patrol vehicles circled the perimeter.

Guard towers scanned the desert with rotating floodlights.

Armed drones hovered silently in the air.

Lyra stood beside him, studying the base.

"This place wasn't on any map," she said.

"That's the point," Kael replied.

He lowered the binoculars.

"If Leviathan was created anywhere… it's here."

Lyra handed him a small data device.

"Intel from my scouts."

A digital blueprint appeared.

Underground laboratories.

Weapon vaults.

Holding chambers.

Kael's eyes stopped on one section.

SUBJECT DEVELOPMENT WING

Lyra noticed.

"That's where the Leviathan soldiers are created."

Kael's expression darkened.

"Then that's where we're going."

An hour later, they moved through the desert like shadows.

Kael eliminated the first guard silently with a knife.

The second never even saw him coming.

Lyra hacked the outer security panel.

The metal gate opened slowly with a deep mechanical groan.

Inside the base, the atmosphere felt wrong.

Too quiet.

Too controlled.

Cold white lights illuminated the corridors.

Scientific equipment lined the walls.

But something else filled the air.

A faint metallic smell.

Blood.

Kael moved carefully through the hallway, rifle raised.

They passed several rooms containing medical equipment and surgical tables.

Some still had dried blood on them.

Lyra looked disturbed.

"What the hell were they doing here?"

Kael didn't answer.

He opened the next door.

Inside were dozens of glass containment chambers.

Each one filled with dark liquid.

And inside those chambers…

Human bodies floated silently.

Men.

Women.

Soldiers.

Their bodies were covered with surgical scars and metal implants.

Lyra stepped closer to one of the tanks.

"Test subjects…"

Kael studied the labels.

LEVIATHAN PHASE III

STRENGTH AUGMENTATION

NEURAL COMBAT ADAPTATION

His fists clenched.

"They turned soldiers into experiments."

Lyra's voice lowered.

"Not just soldiers."

She pointed to another chamber.

Inside floated a boy.

He looked no older than sixteen.

Kael felt something cold settle inside his chest.

"They used civilians too."

Before either of them could speak—

A voice echoed through the laboratory.

"Welcome, Kael Varden."

Kael turned instantly.

At the far end of the room stood a massive armored figure.

Nearly two meters tall.

Muscles enhanced by mechanical implants.

Eyes glowing faintly red.

The man smiled.

"You finally came."

Kael aimed his rifle.

"And you are?"

The man stepped forward slowly.

"Designation: Leviathan Alpha."

Then he grinned.

"But you can call me Titan."

Lyra whispered quietly.

"Oh no…"

Titan cracked his neck.

"You were the prototype, Kael."

"Battalion 13 was the test run."

"But I…"

He spread his arms proudly.

"…am the final result."

Kael fired.

The bullets slammed into Titan's chest.

And bounced off.

Titan laughed.

"You'll have to try harder than that."

In a single step, he crossed the room.

Kael barely dodged as Titan's punch smashed through a steel table like paper.

The impact shook the entire laboratory.

Lyra fired her pistols.

The bullets barely slowed him.

"He's too strong!" she shouted.

Kael rolled across the floor, grabbing a shock grenade.

He activated it and threw it directly at Titan's feet.

Electric energy exploded across the room.

Titan staggered for a moment.

Just enough time.

Kael grabbed Lyra's arm.

"Move!"

They ran toward the main control room.

Behind them, Titan's roar echoed through the facility.

"You can't escape!"

They burst into the control center.

Computers filled the room.

Massive digital files covered the screens.

Lyra began downloading everything.

"Leviathan data… soldier production… war deployment plans…"

Her eyes widened.

"Kael… you need to see this."

A map appeared on the main screen.

Across the continent, five major territories flashed red.

Each controlled by a powerful faction.

Iron Dominion

Crimson Legion

Northern Coalition

The Steel Syndicate

The Obsidian Veil

Lyra frowned.

"Wait… the Obsidian Veil?"

Kael stared at the screen.

"They're not just assassins."

"No."

Lyra opened another file.

A name appeared.

SUPREME DIRECTOR: NOCTIS

Kael narrowed his eyes.

"Leader of the Obsidian Veil."

Lyra read further.

"Rourke has been secretly working with him."

Kael felt the pieces fall together.

"The faction war…"

"…was planned."

Lyra nodded slowly.

"Five armies fighting each other while Rourke builds his Leviathan army in secret."

Before Kael could respond—

The wall behind them exploded.

Titan burst through the metal like a missile.

His armor sparked with electricity.

But he was still standing.

Still smiling.

"Download all the files you want," he growled.

"It won't matter."

Kael raised his rifle again.

"Why?"

Titan's red eyes glowed brighter.

"Because the war has already begun."

Suddenly every screen in the room switched to a live broadcast.

Cities across the wasteland were burning.

Massive armies marched across ruined highways.

Missiles launched from hidden silos.

Five great factions had officially declared war.

The wasteland was now consumed by a continental conflict.

Titan laughed.

"By the time you leave this base…"

"…the world will already belong to Leviathan."

Kael stared at the burning cities on the screen.

Then he slowly looked back at Titan.

His voice was cold.

"Not if I kill the first one."

Titan grinned.

"Try."

And the battle between two Leviathan soldiers began.
