Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Heartbeats, Blushes, and One Oblivious Bro

The next morning found Ling Qinghe at the private training ground reserved for inner disciples. Sunlight filtered through bamboo leaves, casting golden patterns on the stone platform. His snow-white hair flowed freely, catching the light like silk threads. After yesterday's rewards, his qi felt warmer—less like a sleepy houseplant and more like a houseplant that had finally discovered sunlight.

Ninebro was busy turning a training dummy into confetti.

"Alright, bros. Sword lesson time," Ling Qinghe announced, rolling his shoulders. "Try not to laugh too hard when I inevitably trip over my own sleeves."

Huo Yan was already there, leaning against a pillar with his usual fiery energy. "Wouldn't miss this for anything, Snowhair."

Gu Xichen arrived exactly on time, dark robes immaculate, his sharp gaze softening a fraction the moment it landed on Ling Qinghe. Ye Tianlan appeared like a quiet breeze, sword at his side and a small, gentle smile on his refined face.

"Begin with basic stances," Ye Tianlan said softly, stepping behind Ling Qinghe to adjust his posture. His hands were light on Ling Qinghe's shoulders and waist—professional, yet lingering a heartbeat longer than necessary. "Relax your shoulders… yes, like that."

Ling Qinghe felt a faint warmth creep up his neck. "Yo, Sword Bro, your hands are kinda nice and cool. Feels like a natural AC unit."

Ye Tianlan's ears turned a delicate pink. He cleared his throat elegantly. "Focus on the qi flow."

Gu Xichen watched the scene with narrowed eyes. When it was his turn to demonstrate a defensive form, he moved closer than strictly needed, one hand guiding Ling Qinghe's arm in a slow arc. The proximity brought a wave of cool, refreshing qi that mingled with Ling Qinghe's own.

"You're improving," Gu Xichen murmured, voice low and almost gentle. His steel eyes flicked to Ling Qinghe's face, tracing the curve of his jaw and the sparkle in those blue eyes. For a moment, the ice prince's usual mask cracked, revealing something warmer underneath.

Ling Qinghe blinked up at him. "Big Shot Bro, you're staring again. Something on my face?"

"…No." Gu Xichen looked away quickly, but not before a faint flush appeared on his usually pale cheeks.

Huo Yan, never one to be outdone, jumped in during the sparring portion. He pulled Ling Qinghe into a mock combat stance, arms wrapping around him from behind to demonstrate a flame-infused palm movement. "Like this—feel the heat build here," he said, voice playful but with an unexpectedly husky edge. His breath brushed Ling Qinghe's ear.

Ling Qinghe's porcelain skin flushed lightly. "Flame Bro! Personal space is on fire right now."

Huo Yan grinned, but his grip loosened reluctantly, eyes lingering on the way Ling Qinghe's hair brushed against his shoulder. "Can't help it. You make training way more interesting."

Ninebro, the ultimate chaos agent, kept "helping" by pushing the three taller disciples closer to Ling Qinghe whenever they drifted apart. At one point, the fox orchestrated a perfect group stumble where all four ended up in a tangled pile for three chaotic seconds.

Ling Qinghe laughed brightly from the bottom of the pile, blue eyes sparkling. "Team bonding achieved! Ten out of ten."

Gu Xichen helped him up first, his hand lingering on Ling Qinghe's waist a moment too long. Ye Tianlan brushed a stray leaf from his hair with careful fingers. Huo Yan ruffled the white strands affectionately, muttering, "Cute idiot."

After training, they moved to a shaded pavilion for rest. Ling Qinghe pulled out fresh ramen cups for everyone—his new Ultimate Recipe Manual already proving useful with enhanced spiritual flavors.

As they ate, a comfortable silence fell, broken only by occasional banter. Ye Tianlan watched Ling Qinghe slurp noodles with fond amusement, occasionally passing him perfectly peeled spirit fruits. "You eat with such joy. It makes even simple meals feel special."

Huo Yan leaned closer on his other side. "If you keep looking like that while eating, I might start bringing you food every day."

Gu Xichen, sitting across from him, simply pushed his own untouched portion toward Ling Qinghe. "Eat more. You used too much energy earlier."

Ling Qinghe accepted everything with a bright grin, cheeks slightly pink from the attention. "You guys are spoiling me rotten. What did I do to deserve three overpowered babysitters?"

The three exchanged glances—half rivalry, half silent agreement. None of them answered with words, but the air felt heavier with unspoken feelings.

Later, as the group walked back toward the outer disciple peak under the setting sun, Ninebro suddenly darted ahead and then back, herding Ling Qinghe into a narrower path flanked by blooming spirit flowers. Petals drifted down around them like pink snow.

Gu Xichen walked on his left, Huo Yan on his right, and Ye Tianlan slightly behind, sword glowing softly. For a brief moment, Ling Qinghe felt the weight of three intense gazes on him.

His heart did a strange little flip.

"Bro… this feels kinda nice," he admitted quietly, blue eyes reflecting the golden sunset. "Second life upgrade includes premium company, apparently."

Ye Tianlan's voice was soft. "You deserve it."

Huo Yan winked. "And more."

Gu Xichen said nothing, but his hand brushed lightly against Ling Qinghe's as they walked—deliberate, warm despite the ice qi.

Ling Qinghe laughed, the sound light and carefree, as petals continued to fall. Ninebro yipped happily, tails brushing against all three geniuses like a proud matchmaker.
