A QUIET LOVE

In a small town surrounded by green fields and quiet rivers, there lived a boy named Arif. He was a simple student who loved reading books and walking in the evening. Every afternoon after school, he would sit under a large mango tree near the village road and read his favorite stories.

One day, while he was reading, a girl walked by. Her name was Maya. She had recently moved to the town with her family. Maya noticed Arif sitting under the tree with a book every day, and she became curious.

The next afternoon, Maya gathered the courage to talk to him.

"Hi," she said softly. "What book are you reading?"

Arif looked up, a little surprised. "Oh… it's a story about adventures," he replied with a shy smile.

From that day on, Maya sometimes stopped by the tree after school. They talked about books, school, and their dreams for the future. Arif discovered that Maya loved drawing and wanted to become an artist. Maya learned that Arif wanted to travel the world and write stories.

Days slowly turned into weeks. Their friendship grew stronger. They laughed together, helped each other with homework, and shared small moments that made their days brighter.

One evening, the sky was filled with orange and pink colors as the sun was setting. Arif and Maya were walking along the riverbank. The wind was cool, and the sound of the water was calm and peaceful.

Maya looked at the river and said, "This place is beautiful. I'm glad we became friends."

Arif nodded. "Me too. Before you came, I used to sit here alone every day."

Maya smiled. "And now you're not alone."

There was a gentle silence between them. Both of them felt something special but didn't know how to say it.

A few days later, Maya gave Arif a small gift. It was a drawing she had made. The picture showed the big mango tree where they first talked.

"I made this for you," she said.

Arif looked at the drawing with surprise and happiness. "It's amazing. Thank you."

He kept the drawing carefully inside his notebook.

As time passed, their bond became deeper. They encouraged each other to study harder and follow their dreams. When exams came, they helped each other prepare. When one of them felt worried or sad, the other was always there to listen.

One afternoon, Arif finally spoke from his heart.

"Maya," he said quietly, "meeting you changed my life. You made my days happier."

Maya looked at him and smiled warmly.

"You made my days happier too," she replied.

Neither of them said anything more, but they both understood the meaning behind those words.

Years later, even as their lives grew busier with studies and responsibilities, they never forgot the mango tree, the quiet river, and the friendship that slowly turned into a gentle love.

Sometimes the most beautiful love stories are not loud or dramatic. They grow quietly—through kindness, understanding, and simple moments shared together.
