Amara stared at her phone, her hands trembling.
The message on the screen refused to disappear no matter how many times she blinked.
"I think we should see other people."
Four years. Four years of love, loyalty, and sacrifices… ended with just one text message.
Her chest tightened as tears blurred her vision.
"How can he do this to me?" she whispered under her breath.
The small bar was loud with music and laughter, but none of it reached her. All she could hear was the sound of her own heart breaking.
She picked up the glass of wine in front of her and swallowed it quickly.
Maybe alcohol would numb the pain. Maybe it would make her forget the memories of the man she thought she would marry.
Just then, the door of the bar opened. A tall man walked in. The entire atmosphere seemed to change the moment he stepped inside. He was dressed in a perfectly fitted black suit, his dark hair neatly styled. His sharp jawline and confident steps made him look like a man who was used to power.
Women in the bar turned their heads to look at him. But his eyes stopped on only one person, Amara. She felt his gaze before she even looked up. When their eyes met, her breath caught in her throat. There was something intense and dangerous about him.
The man slowly walked toward the bar and sat beside her.
"Another drink," he told the bartender in a deep, calm voice.
Amara quickly looked away, pretending not to notice him. But after a few seconds, he spoke.
"You look like someone who just had her heart broken."
She froze. Embarrassment rushed through her.
"Is it that obvious?" she muttered.
He glanced at her phone that was still in her hand.
"Very."
She let out a small bitter laugh.
"Four years," she said quietly. "And he ended it with a text message."
The stranger studied her for a moment. Then he said something unexpected.
"Then he's the biggest fool alive."
Amara blinked in surprise. No one had defended her like that before. She turned to look at him again, noticing how unbelievably handsome he was up close. His dark eyes held hers, calm and confident.
"Forget him tonight," he said softly. "Just for tonight."
Amara hesitated. She should say no. She should leave. But the pain in her chest was too heavy, and for the first time that night, she didn't feel completely alone.
So she nodded slowly. She had no idea… that this one decision would change her life forever.
