Chapter 18 - The Bond Under the Moon

The room was quiet.

Too quiet.

Only the sound of their breathing filled the space between them.

Kael hovered above her, his body braced over hers, one hand planted beside her head, the other still resting on her waist as if he feared she might disappear.

His golden eyes were darker now.

Not just desire.

Something deeper.

Something instinctive.

His wolf.

Lia could feel it.

The pull between them had always been there like an invisible thread connecting their souls.

But tonight…

It was stronger.

Much stronger.

Her heart was beating so fast it almost hurt.

This is really happening…

For a moment, fear slipped into her chest.

Not fear of him.

Never him.

Fear of what this meant.

Because once the bond formed…

There would be no escaping it.

No pretending.

No running from the truth of what they were to each other.

Her fingers slowly lifted, touching his chest again.

Warm.

Solid.

Real.

Kael leaned down slightly, his breath brushing her lips.

"You're thinking too much," he murmured.

His thumb traced slowly along her jaw.

"I can hear your heartbeat from here."

Lia let out a soft breath.

"I can't help it."

Kael tilted his head slightly.

"Regretting it already?"

His tone carried a faint teasing edge, but his eyes were searching her face carefully.

Lia shook her head immediately.

"No."

Her voice came out softer than she expected.

"I'm just… scared."

Kael stilled.

Not pulling away.

Not moving closer either.

Just watching her.

"Of me?" he asked quietly.

Lia almost laughed.

"No."

Her fingers curled lightly into the fabric of his shirt.

"Of how much this means."

For a moment, something flickered across Kael's face.

Something raw.

Something almost vulnerable.

Then he leaned down again, pressing a slow kiss to her forehead.

"You should be," he murmured.

His lips brushed her temple next.

"Because once I claim you…"

Another kiss near the corner of her mouth.

"…I'm never letting you go."

A shiver ran through Lia's body.

Not from fear.

From the intensity of the bond pulling tighter between them.

She could feel it now.

The magic.

Soft golden light flickering faintly beneath her skin.

Her fairy power responding to him.

Responding to them.

Kael noticed it too.

His eyes darkened.

"You feel that?" he asked quietly.

Lia nodded slowly.

"It's like… something inside me is waking up."

Her chest tightened.

This is the bond.

The moment their souls recognized each other completely.

For a brief second doubt crept in again.

If I do this… I might never have the strength to leave.

But when she looked at him…

The way he was staring at her like she was the center of his world…

Her heart softened painfully.

Just tonight…

Just once.

She wanted to belong somewhere.

Kael lowered his head again, capturing her lips in a deeper kiss.

This one wasn't slow anymore.

It was intense.

Hungry.

Like he had been holding himself back for too long.

Lia gasped softly into the kiss, her fingers sliding into his hair as his hand tightened around her waist.

His warmth surrounded her.

His scent filled her senses.

Forest.

Rain.

Wild strength.

Everything about him felt overwhelming.

And her thoughts became a blur.

Why does he feel like home…

Her chest tightened again.

Because that thought hurt more than she expected.

Kael pulled back slightly, his breath uneven now.

His wolf was close to the surface.

She could see it in his eyes.

"You're driving me insane tonight," he muttered.

Lia gave a small breathless laugh.

"I thought wolves liked the chase."

Kael's lips curved into a dangerous smile.

"Oh, I do."

His hand slid slowly up her arm.

"But this…"

His thumb brushed gently along her throat.

"…this feels more like surrender."

The air in the room shifted.

Magic pulsed stronger between them.

Lia's wings shimmered faintly behind her, reacting instinctively to the bond forming.

Kael noticed immediately.

His gaze softened slightly.

"Beautiful," he whispered.

Lia's cheeks flushed.

But before she could react, Kael's expression darkened again.

His wolf was close now.

Very close.

"You're sure?" he asked again, his voice deeper.

More serious.

"Because once I mark you…"

His fingers tightened slightly on her waist.

"You become my Luna."

The words settled heavily in the room.

Lia's heart twisted painfully.

Luna…

She nodded slowly.

"Yes."

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

But it was enough.

Kael's restraint finally broke.

He kissed her again deeper, stronger, like he was claiming every breath she took.

His hand moved to the back of her neck, holding her close as the bond between them surged.

Lia felt it then.

The moment everything changed.

A sharp pulse of energy.

Their hearts beating together.

His wolf recognizing her.

Her magic answering.

Soul to soul.

Mate to mate.

Time blurred.

Lia barely knew how long they stayed wrapped in each other like that.

All she knew was the overwhelming feeling of warmth.

Of belonging.

Of being wanted so fiercely it almost scared her.

At one point she laughed breathlessly.

"You have too much energy," she murmured.

Kael chuckled softly against her hair.

"Wolves have good stamina."

Lia groaned quietly.

"I'm starting to realize that."

Kael kissed the side of her neck, amused.

"You're the one who started this."

Her cheeks burned.

"Maybe I underestimated you."

He smirked.

"You definitely did."

Hours later, the room had gone completely silent.

Moonlight slowly faded into the pale light of early dawn.

Kael's arm was still wrapped around her waist.

His breathing deep and steady now.

He had finally fallen asleep.

Lia lay beside him quietly.

Her body felt warm… heavy… but peaceful.

Then she slowly lifted a hand to her neck.

Her fingers touched the fresh mark there.

The mark of an Alpha.

The mark of a mate.

The mark of a Luna.

Her chest tightened painfully.

She turned her head slightly, looking at Kael.

His face looked calmer in sleep.

Younger.

Less burdened by the responsibilities of being Alpha.

For a long moment, she simply watched him.

Memorizing him.

Every line.

Every scar.

Every detail.

A single tear slipped down her cheek.

"I'm sorry," she whispered softly.

Then slowly…

Very slowly…

Golden fairy light began to glow around her body.

And her form started to fade.
