Chapter 10 - Bond of Fire and Moonlight

The forest was quiet. The Fairy Court had retreated for now.

Kael walked beside Lia, one hand lightly holding hers. The tension of battle still lingered, but the golden glow of their bond pulsed softly between them, warming the space around their hearts.

"Are you okay?" he asked quietly, his thumb brushing the back of her hand.

Lia nodded, though her chest still raced. "I… I've never felt anything like this. Being connected to you… it's overwhelming."

Kael's lips curved in a rare, soft smile. "Good. That's the bond. It's not just about protection. It's… about knowing you belong. To me. And me to you."

Her heart fluttered, a mix of fear and desire. She had hidden from him for years, and now she was his mate, fully, irrevocably.

The pack had gathered nearby, watching silently. Even Rowan, usually outspoken, hesitated, sensing the intensity between the Alpha and his mate.

Kael gestured, lifting Lia's hand slightly. "Pack. This is Lia. My mate."

The wolves stiffened. Some of the younger wolves tilted their heads, uncertain. But Lia's golden aura shimmered, and something in the bond radiated outward, almost like a pulse of energy the pack could feel.

"She's… not human," one of the older wolves muttered.

Kael's golden eyes glinted. "No. And she's mine. Anyone who disrespects her… will answer to me."

The pack seemed to relax slightly, sensing the Alpha's obsession was protective rather than cruel. Rowan stepped forward cautiously. "Welcome to the pack," he said softly. "We… accept her."

Lia's eyes softened. "Thank you. I want to… help. I want to be part of this… family."

Kael's hand found hers again, fingers curling around hers possessively. "And you are. From this moment on, there's no going back. You're part of my life… my pack… my heart."

The next hour was spent in introductions. Kael brought Lia to meet the female wolves in the pack, women who had helped raise the younger ones, and the children who had grown under his protection.

The younger wolves eyed her with curiosity. Some tried to sniff her, but the bond between Kael and Lia made it clear she was untouchable by anyone but him.

A little girl wolf approached timidly. "Are you really his mate?" she asked softly, eyes wide.

Lia knelt slightly, wings folding gently. "I… am. And I'm going to do everything I can to help him and the pack."

The girl smiled faintly, reaching out to touch her hand. Kael's eyes narrowed for just a moment a subtle warning but he didn't intervene. Seeing Lia accept the pack's trust… it made him… satisfied. Protective, yes, but also proud.

Later, Kael pulled Lia aside, the golden glow of their bond flaring softly around them. "Do you feel it?" he asked, voice low. "How the pack reacts to you now?"

Lia nodded. "It's strange. I can feel them… sensing your obsession. They trust me because of you… but they also respect the bond we share."

Kael stepped closer, tilting her chin up gently. "Good. I want you safe. I want them to accept you… but never forget I come first."

Her cheeks flushed at the intensity. "I… I know. And I want that too. But I also want them to… see that I'm here for them, not just you."

He grinned darkly, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. "I'll allow it. As long as they remember… no one touches my mate."

The words sent a shiver down her spine. His obsession, protective and borderline dangerous, wrapped around her like a living cloak. But beneath it, there was trust, love, and a certainty that she had never known before.

Kael then led her to a quieter spot near the river, away from the rest of the pack. He crouched slightly, golden eyes meeting hers. "Your powers…" he murmured. "You used them today brilliantly. But there's more we can do. Together. You and me. Our bond makes you stronger… and me too."

Lia leaned against him, wings folding as her hand rested on his chest. "I want to learn. I want to be… worthy of being your mate. Of standing with you."

Kael's lips brushed hers not a claim this time, but a gentle acknowledgment. "You already are. Every heartbeat, every thought… it's ours. Together. Always."

Their bond pulsed, golden threads of magic and instinct weaving tighter, anchoring them not just in survival, but in love. The pack, sensing the new strength in their Alpha and his mate, murmured approval. They would fight. They would survive. And this bond the bond of fire, moonlight, and obsession would guide them through the battles ahead.

The war was far from over. But in this moment, Kael and Lia had claimed each other fully, and the pack saw it. The romance-war crescendo had begun not just in battle, but in heart and soul.
