The girl standing in Kaito's bedroom was not alive.
Her long silver hair floated in the air like it was underwater. Her pale feet didn't touch the floor. Her red eyes glowed softly in the darkness.
And she was staring directly at him.
Kaito slowly blinked.
Then he looked at the clock.
2:37 AM.
He looked back at the floating girl.
Silence filled the room.
For ten whole seconds, neither of them spoke.
Finally, Kaito sighed and pulled the blanket over his head.
"Come back tomorrow," he muttered lazily. "I'm busy sleeping."
The ghost girl's eye twitched.
She had imagined many reactions after waiting one thousand years to be freed from her seal.
Fear.
Shock.
Screaming.
Running.
But this idiot human… just tried to ignore her.
Her voice turned dangerously cold.
"Human."
Kaito slowly moved the blanket away and peeked at her.
"Yes, floating lady?"
The room temperature suddenly dropped.
Frost formed on the walls.
The air trembled as dark energy filled the room.
"I am Yukari, the Cursed Princess of the Spirit Realm," she declared proudly. "For a thousand years I was sealed by spirit hunters… and today you have broken my seal."
She leaned closer, her glowing eyes locking onto his.
"You are now my master."
Silence.
Kaito stared at her for a moment.
Then he scratched his head.
"Did I sign something?"
Yukari froze.
"What?"
"I mean," Kaito said casually, sitting up in bed, "contracts usually require paperwork. Blood signatures. Maybe a lawyer."
The ghost princess's expression cracked.
This was not how this was supposed to go.
"Human," she said slowly, "do you understand what I am?"
"Yeah," Kaito replied.
He pointed at her floating body.
"Dead."
The room exploded with dark energy.
Books flew off shelves. The window cracked.
"INSOLENT MORTAL!"
Kaito covered his ears.
"Relax, relax," he said. "You're gonna wake the neighbors."
Yukari stared at him like he was a completely unknown species.
Normally, humans fainted just by sensing her presence.
This guy?
He looked annoyed.
"Why are you not afraid of me?" she asked.
Kaito stretched lazily.
"Well… three reasons."
He held up one finger.
"First, if you wanted to kill me, I'd already be dead."
Second finger.
"Second, I'm too sleepy to panic right now."
Third finger.
"And third…"
He looked directly into her glowing eyes.
"I'm pretty sure you need me more than I need you."
For the first time in a thousand years…
The terrifying ghost princess was speechless.
But before she could respond—
The broken talisman on Kaito's desk suddenly began glowing.
Cracks of dark purple light spread across it.
Yukari's expression changed instantly.
"Wait… that seal…"
Kaito frowned.
"What about it?"
Her voice turned serious.
"You didn't just break my seal."
A deafening CRACK echoed through the room.
The talisman shattered.
A second summoning circle appeared on the floor.
Then a third.
Then a fourth.
Cold wind rushed through the house.
Multiple voices whispered from the darkness.
Ancient.
Hungry.
Powerful.
Yukari slowly turned toward Kaito.
For the first time…
The ghost princess looked worried.
"Idiot human…"
Kaito blinked.
"Yeah?"
"You just released all of them."
The floor exploded with light.
A seductive voice laughed in the darkness.
"Well well… who woke us up after centuries?"
Another voice growled softly.
"A mortal… how interesting."
A third voice whispered beside Kaito's ear.
"Can we keep him?"
Kaito slowly looked around at the multiple glowing summoning circles forming in his room.
Then he sighed.
"…I really should've stayed asleep."
And that was the moment Kaito accidentally became the master of the most dangerous spirits in existence.
