"If you can do it, I'll award you one thousand academy points."
"But if you fail, you'll lose one thousand points."
Ash nodded without hesitation.
"Okay. I agree."
"Good." Marth crossed his arms. "Then do your job."
Everyone immediately turned to look at Ash.
Ash stepped forward alone.
Instantly, both Marth and Vastor frowned.
They thought the same thing.
This kid was lying.
The reason was simple.
No healer, no matter how talented, could normally regrow a limb alone.
The process consumed an enormous amount of nutrients and life force. Without support, the patient could die from the strain.
That was why regrowth procedures were usually performed by at least two healers. One focused on regenerating the limb while the other supplied nutrients and stabilized the patient's condition.
Ash walked over to Captain Zarran.
Then he took out two vials from his dimensional storage ring.
It was a gift from Myra.
The storage ring had originally belonged to her, but she had given it to Ash before he left for the academy.
The two vials contained a nutrient solution of Ash's own creation mixed with Aqua's bloodline ability, Mermaid Blessing.
Together, they formed an incredibly potent restorative tonic.
Ash handed the vials to Zarran.
"When I tell you to drink them, do it immediately."
Zarran nodded and held the two vials tightly in his remaining hand.
Meanwhile, both Marth and Vastor quietly prepared themselves to intervene if anything went wrong.
Ash raised his hand.
To everyone else, it looked as though he was casting a complicated healing spell.
He recited a stream of meaningless words and made several hand signs.
In reality, it was all cover for his true magic.
The actual spell had already been prepared.
A moment later, healing energy flowed into Zarran's body.
Under the astonished eyes of everyone present, the stump of Zarran's missing arm began to regenerate.
Bone grew first.
Then nerves.
Then blood vessels.
Muscles quickly followed.
Finally, skin formed around the newly created tissues.
The entire arm was regrowing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Gasps filled the ward.
Even several experienced healers stared in disbelief.
When roughly one-third of the arm had formed, Ash signaled Zarran.
"Drink the first vial."
Zarran immediately obeyed.
The nutrient solution entered his body and replenished the massive amount of energy being consumed by the regeneration process.
The arm continued growing.
Halfway.
Three-quarters.
Almost complete.
As the strain increased further, Ash pointed at the second vial.
"The second one."
Zarran drank it without hesitation.
The final portions of the arm formed rapidly.
Wrist.
Palm.
Fingers.
Fingernails.
A few moments later, a completely new arm hung from Zarran's shoulder.
Ash stepped back and let out a breath.
"It's done."
Silence filled the entire ward.
Zarran stared at his restored arm.
He slowly clenched and unclenched his fingers.
Then he raised the arm above his head.
It moved perfectly.
As though it had never been lost.
Around him, students, healers, and professors alike stared at Ash in complete shock.
Even Marth and Vastor were speechless.
But for an entirely different reason.
"Did you create this limb-regrowth method on your own?" Marth asked seriously.
Ash blinked in confusion before nodding.
"Yes."
Marth and Vastor exchanged a glance.
Ash frowned.
"Why do you all seem so surprised? Isn't this a normal procedure for regrowing a limb?"
Vastor let out a helpless sigh.
"No, Ash. Not even close."
He motioned for everyone to follow him.
"Come with us. It will be easier to show you."
Before leaving, both Marth and Vastor carefully examined Captain Zarran one final time.
The regenerated arm was completely healthy.
The bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and skin had all formed perfectly.
There were no signs of instability or damage.
After confirming that the patient was in excellent condition, they led the students through several corridors until they arrived at another treatment room.
Inside was another patient.
Like Zarran, he had lost an arm.
The man looked up curiously as the large group entered.
Marth walked toward him before turning back to face the students.
"Watch carefully."
He raised a hand.
"This is how limb regeneration is normally performed."
"The first step is to take into consideration the sex and build of the patient, then choose the best limb template available."
"Template?" Ash echoed, genuinely surprised, drawing curious looks from many of his classmates.
"Yes, a template." Marth nodded.
"We can't allow the new limb to grow endlessly. The spell requires precise measurements to function properly."
One of the assistants brought over a cart filled with wooden arm models.
Marth compared them to the patient's remaining arm, carefully searching for the closest match.
"Each of these models corresponds to a different regeneration spell."
He picked up one of the wooden arms.
"Here at White Griffon Academy, we possess the largest archive of regeneration spells in the entire Kingdom."
A proud smile appeared on his face.
"I like to think that my work contributed to that."
After selecting the most suitable template, Professor Marth contacted the rest of the medical team through his communication amulet.
Soon, six healers arrived.
They were divided into two groups of three mages each.
"Technically, two mages per group should be enough," Marth explained to the students.
"The third healer is simply an extra safety measure."
He shrugged.
"This is a hospital, not a battlefield. There is no reason to take unnecessary risks."
The two teams then began their work.
The spells themselves took only a few seconds to cast.
Immediately, the patient's missing arm started growing back at a visible rate.
The process was impressive enough to leave many students staring in amazement.
Still, compared to Ash's method, it was noticeably slower.
Minute after minute passed as bone, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and skin gradually formed.
Roughly thirty minutes later, the regeneration process was finally complete.
The patient's new arm looked completely normal.
The classroom erupted into applause.
The healers and hospital staff accepted the praise with modest bows.
Meanwhile, James stared at his restored arm in disbelief.
He flexed his fingers.
Opened and closed his hand.
Rotated his wrist.
Everything worked perfectly.
Tears formed in his eyes.
To him, it truly felt like a miracle.
He was no longer a cripple.
Soon he would be able to return to active duty instead of spending the rest of his career behind a desk.
As for the students, many of them looked between Marth and Ash.
The difference between the two procedures had become impossible to ignore.
One required an archive of specialized spells, six trained healers, templates, support teams, and half an hour of work.
The other had required only Ash, two nutrient vials, and a few minutes.
