Chapter 162 - Chapter 162 Break the Peace

While Giovanni finalized his countermeasures against the Hunter organization, Ash and his group arrived at the next village. However, this village seemed to be facing a genuine food shortage.

"Are there no ingredients for sale here either?" Seeing the vegetable store completely devoid of vegetables, Ash frowned slightly. The store owner said helplessly, "Yes, I'm very sorry, customers."

"It's fine. Thank you for explaining." After leaving the store, Misty clutched her stomach and said somewhat helplessly, "We can't cook without ingredients... And I have no idea why, but all the restaurants are completely empty too..."

"Want to eat a candy first?" Seeing the Rare Candy Ash offered, Misty said somewhat speechlessly, "Could you stop treating Rare Candies like snacks..."

Despite her words, Misty took one and tossed it into her mouth. "We can't just eat candy. There's zero nutritional value..."

As a man who also knew how to cook and take care of people like Ash, Brock was also searching for usable ingredients, but so far, he had come up empty-handed.

"Sigh, no choice but to use my emergency food supplies. Since they want to protect the current state of this village, there are no branches opened here. Looks like there's a need to open one."

"Emergency food supplies?"

Ash then took Psyduck out of his bag and started rummaging inside his high-tech backpack. "This is why it's good to be fully prepared like me. What we usually eat is just what's on the surface. I actually have backups!"

As Ash pulled out bags of flour, rice, chicken, duck, fish, meat, and fresh vegetables, Misty, Suzie, and Brock were somewhat surprised that Ash was so well-prepared. Lara, who knew Ash best, began inspecting the food he brought out.

"It's all fresh. Did you restock your ingredients at the Continental Hotel again, Ash?"

"Of course. I restock ingredients at every place we visit. And look, it's come in handy now. Alright, let's find a place to start cooking."

Just as Ash and his group were about to find a place to cook, a middle-aged man walked over.

"I was wondering who it was. If it isn't Ash."

Seeing the middle-aged man, Ash was slightly taken aback, then said in surprise, "Carson? You're in the village?"

"I don't have anything going on... of course I'm in the village. If you want to cook, how about coming to my house?" Ash and his group naturally agreed to Carson's proposal. After all, being able to borrow a kitchen was great.

"Actually, for some unknown reason recently, the spring water we use for farming in the village has dried up. That's why we have no way to restock our ingredients." At Carson's house, Ash and his group were eating the meal they had prepared while listening to the village's situation.

Upon hearing that the spring water had dried up, Ash nodded in understanding. "I see. But haven't you guys gone to investigate?"

"Actually, we did want to investigate, but you know, our village has very few Trainers, and there are quite a lot of wild Pokémon in the back mountains. So recently, we were planning to ask capable Trainers for help, but only rookies showed up. For their safety, we decided against it."

"I see... But Ash, since you know Carson, why didn't you build a Los Pollos Hermanos Restaurant here?" After taking a sip of soup, Suzie finally asked what she had been wondering about.

After all, given Ash and Carson's acquaintance, Ash should have built a Los Pollos Hermanos Restaurant here. Hearing Suzie's question, Ash and Carson both chuckled. "Because I don't want to break the peace of the village."

Carson smiled and explained to Misty, Suzie, Lara, and Brock, "Ash chose not to build one because he didn't want to disrupt the peace of this village. As you can see, our village is a relatively tranquil place. If a Los Pollos Hermanos Restaurant were built, it would attract a large crowd and break this peace."

"Exactly. Even though I personally like making money, I wouldn't do something that ruins a small town's tranquility."

"But it's about time. Some changes need to happen." Looking out the window, Carson smiled and said, "Perhaps having more Trainers visit would be a good thing too."

"Is that so? Then I'll have someone prepare for it. We'll be bothering you a lot then." Hearing Carson say this, Ash was also a bit surprised. Carson smiled and nodded, saying, "We can't remain closed off forever. But it's best not to make it too big. A small village can't handle too much."

"No problem."
