One of the Dementors that went into a frenzy suddenly halted midair, twitching violently as it realized its very existence was unraveling. It inhaled as a long, unnatural sound echoed like a death rattle from its body. The air distorted. Then, from deep within its chest, a blinding column of condensed soul energy exploded outwards, flying straight towards Raven.
Raven narrowed her eyes and scoffed as the attack approached. "So you're using a soul attack on me, huh?" she said.
She raised her hand sharply and channeled power through the Ring of the Cross. "Depulso!" she shouted.
A magical surge of magic burst from her hand and slammed into the incoming beam of soul energy. The collision rocked the sky. As waves of backlash energy tore through the air, disrupting the soul blast just enough to weaken it. But the shockwave still made it through. It struck Raven dead center in her chest and threw her backwards, her body shook midair as she clutched her chest with a sharp gasp. "Tch—!"
She steadied herself quickly. Her breathing uneven. "That soul attack is certainly powerful… even with the banishing charm," she admited. Her gaze looked at the Dementor that fired it. "You must be one of the leaders among them, huh?"
She smiled. As her hand rised up again. "Depulso!"
The second spell slammed into the Dementor's chest, blasting through it. Its black cloak unraveled, its skeletal form screaming as it dissolved into specks of fading darkness. As it fell apart, dozens of pale, translucent souls spilled out from its mouth—ghostly figures of men and women flying up into the air.
"Thank you for freeing us!" one cried.
"Thank you!" another shouted as they rose toward the heavens.
Raven blinked, taken aback. "Holy shit… this is some spooky-ass stuff."
The last wisps of the Dementor evaporated. Before she could recover, another swarm rushed her from the left. Raven raised her hand without. "Bombarda!"
An explosion of orange light detonated between them. The blast ignited four Dementors instantly. Their cloaks caught fire, burning until only scorched bones remained. Then the magical fire consumed even that.
Then another shriek came from her right. A second frenzied Dementor charged up a soul beam and unleashed it in her direction.
"Incendio!" she yelled.
Fire magic blasted forward to intercept yhe attack but it wasn't enough. The soul beam flew through the flames and barreled towards her.
"Shit—!" Raven brought her hand forward again. "Depulso!"
The banishing spell disrupted the soul beam just enough to weaken it, but not stop it. It struck her again.
Raven spun through the air, coughing up blood violently as she tumbled in the air. Blood sprayed out from her mouth. As her vision blurred from the impact.
"This definitely is not easy…" she admitted bitterly. Then her expression hardened. Her hand rose slowly, dark magic coiling around her.
"Fiendfyre."
A terrible magical heat flooded the air as the Ring of the Cross glowed violently. From its magic, a monstrous shape burst into existence—a massive raven, forged from living fire. It screamed like a demon and spread its flaming wings out, igniting everything nearby into flames.
The Fiendfyre Raven launched itself towards the Dementor that attacked her, now surrounded by four more.
They attacked it immediately, slashing into the fiery beast with claws. But the raven endured, lashing out with its beak. One Dementor's head was torn off in a burst of fire. Two more were crushed in its talons, their forms collapsing under the firey heat.
The remaining Dementor tried to flee—but the Fiendfyre Raven surged forward and bit down on its head. Its beak bit through it's skull like glass. A skeletal claw reached out from the raven's mouth as the bird swallowed the Dementor whole, dragging the shrieking creature into the flames of its stomach.
The fire Raven spun around midair and bit off another Dementor's head with a screech. Then it soared higher, opened its mouth, and breathed a column of black fire. As dozens of Dementors in the distance were instantly incinerated, their shrieks cut short as they vanished in the inferno.
Raven raised her hand again. "Bombarda Maxima."
Another detonation shook the battlefield. Nearly thirty Dementors were caught in the blast, burning away as the force crushed them.
Raven fell to one knee midair, her body faltering. She coughed again, more blood now on the palm of her hand. "I'm actually injured from this…"
Her eyes narrowed. "My soul's weakened… and my physical body too."
She scanned the battlefield through the smoke. The single Dementor she dominated earlier—the one with glowing green eyes—continued its ruthless slaughter, killing the last few enemies without much effort. The Fiendfyre Raven circled above, incinerating stragglers that tried to retreat.
The sky finally began to quiet.
Raven exhaled slowly. "That should clean up a lot of them here." She nodded faintly. "I took out at least a hundred."
Her voice rose. "Bubbles. Is this good enough?"
After a small pop of displacement magic, Bubbles appeared beside her instantly. "It looks like you took out a majority of them," she said, her voice calm but urgent. "It should be a couple of centuries before they can repopulate again."
"Let's get you out of here before more of them come."
Raven raised her hand halfway. "Hold on."
She turned her gaze towards the lone surviving Dementor—the one still under her control. "What should I do with this thing?"
Bubbles floated closer, staring. "Holy shit," she said quietly. "You actually managed to take control of one."
She hovered a little higher. "And that one looks… upgraded."
"I said I would try," Raven replied with a tired expression.
Bubbles narrowed her eyes at the creature. "Go to Vault Zero. Gringotts Bank, England. In diagon Alley. Know you know where to go and stay out of sight."
The Dementor hesitated, then slowly turned and faded from sight—disappearing into the shadows.
Bubbles sighed. "Great. Now we have another companion wandering around Vault Zero."
Without warning, she moved forwards and grabbed Raven's hand. "We need to get you first aid with Miranda right now. That soul concussion can't be left untreated."
They vanished from Azkaban.
